Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

sunspotted: at 50 cent beer night? (ONE HOUR IN THE BALL PIT)

[personal profile] sunspotted 2019-01-21 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Marco | [personal profile] sunspotted
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog/Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Viola, level 72, Teddy, level 72, Sushi, level 66.
Battle Details:

Given the proclivity of poison types in Morty's battle, Marco has loaded up on some antidotes, as well as revive and Potions. He forgot the Burn salve, though.

He's bringing Viola, his starter, whom he's very close to, even if she's a bit of a Diva. Teddy absolutely adores Marco, and frequently rides on his shoulders, so he's willing to tough out a lot. Sushi and Marco are closer now, since he lets her roll around in things and chase Pidgeys. All of them have been travelling and fighting.

Viola will start out casting Safeguard against the Haunter, to prevent poison and burn from being inflicted. Given Haunter's weakness to Dark-type moves, Marco starts out the next part of battle with Confuse Ray, hoping to inflict confusion, and will then be hitting him with Sheer Cold, hoping to faint the Haunter out the gate. If not, he'll spam Feint Attack until they're fainted. His backup here is Teddy.

Marco will switch out Viola for Teddy after that for Misdreavus. An odd choice, until Marco uses Foresight, so he can hit the other pokemon. He'll also have him defend for two turns to heal up Viola if he needs to, then spam the hell out of Sucker Punch and Hyper Voice to take down the Misdreavus. He also has Rest, if he needs to make use of it.

If Teddy faints, his backup here is Sushi, with her Screech, Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse combo, while he'll also revive Teddy during her round.

Viola is coming out again in the last battle, and Marco starts out with Safeguard, then take the chance to revive Teddy if he wasn't able to in the last battle. He'll keep that Safeguard up to prevent Poison, Burn and Sleep statuses, since Gengar has also has Hypnosis, Dream Eater and Will o Wisp. The plot will be the same here - to inflict Confuse Ray in the hopes it messes up the Gengar, then spam Feint Attack. If he runs out for Feint, he'll switch over to Extrasensory.

If Viola faints, he'll sub in Sushi, with her plethora of Dark moves, in the hopes he can get them off before she too gets fainted, and then Teddy if both of them fail.

Character: Jean Kirschstein | [personal profile] notvaljean
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge AND Rising Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Teams
Team: Jean's guys
Battle Details:

RISING BADGE: Jean spent the holidays in Blackthorn, and figured that after a long break, it was time to finally get back into the battle circuit. He's going for the knockout against the dragons: he'll start with Blitz the Electrode, and try to fry out the Gyarados before it can do much damage. For the Kingdra, he'll bring out Spookycheeks the Mimikyu, and have her lean hard on Play Rough. And finally, for the Dragonite, he'll bring Fat Ice Dog for his ice moves, and Gulliver the Klefki for both his Fairy moves and his resistance to dragon attacks. Jean deliberately chose the smaller, cuter members of his team in a strategy he calls: Jingle Jingle, Motherfuckers.

STORM BADGE: Since he's traveling to the area with Armin anyway, Jean will take on this gym too. For the Hitmonlee, he'll start with Spookycheeks again, trying to knock it out with Play Rough. He'll keep her going with Potions for Hitmonchan as well, with Rocky the Aerodactyl waiting in the wings with his Flying moves if she has problems. For the Poliwrath, Jean will bring Blitz the Electrode and Charybdis the Dhelmise to gang up on it with electric and grass moves.

It should be noted the Rah Rah Bird will attend both of these gym battles and be cheering from the sidelines the whole time.

Character: Armin Arlert | [personal profile] schachmeister
Badge/Gym Leader: Chuck/Storm badge/Cianwood city
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Octavius the Dhelmise (lvl 100); Gus the Shiinotic (lvl 100); Mina the Crobat (lvl 100); Hildegarde the Skarmory (lvl 100); Magellan the Incineroar (lvl 100); Amadeus the Noctowl (lvl 100);
Battle Details:

This is it. The last of sixteen badges for Armin. Lets make it cool.

Starting off, Armin is going to bring out his Dhelmise Octavius against Chuck's Medicham. Medicham is a fighting/psychic type, which leaves it with a weakness to Ghost-type moves. Dhelmise meanwhile is a Grass/Ghost type. This means it not only gains STAB damage on its ghost moves, but it is also completely immune to Medicham's normal and fighting type moves.

During this battle, Armin is going to focus on Dhelmise's ghost type moves. He'll start off with using Astonish. Not only does this move deal ghost type damage, but it also has a 30% chance of making Medicham flinch. Because it is immune to Fighting and normal type moves, Dhelmise will only need to watch out for Medichamp's psychic attacks. In case one of those manages to hit Octavius pretty hard, Armin will have him use Giga Drain before switching back to Astonish.

Against Chuck's Machamp, Armin is going to leave his Dhelmise in the game. If his HP is low, he'll start off the fight with using an item to full up his HP again. Now, Machamp is a pure fighting type pokemon. This means it has no mentionable weaknesses to Dhelmise's type. But Dhelmise is still Ghost/Grass. It is still completely immune to normal and fighting type moves. And it turns out Machamp's move pool is practically all normal and fighting type moves. The only exception is its move Knock Off. This is a dark type move which Dhelmise happens to be weak to. But, it is only one.

For this battle, Armin is again going to focus on Octavius' ghost type moves. He'll use Astonish (if he has any PP left) and then switch to using Phantom Force. Phantom force is a two-turn move, where Dhelmise first turns invisible and then strikes on the next turn out of nowhere, ignoring any protection moves. Like before, Armin will have Octavius use Giga/Mega drain should its HP take a good hit. It is a big job, taking on two level 100 pokemon, but Armin believes Octavius is the, uh, anchor for the job.

For Chuck's Hariyama, Armin will withdraw Octavius (three level 100 pokemon is too much), and instead bring out Gus the Shiinotic. Hariyama is a pure Fighting type pokemon. This leaves it with a weakness to Fairy-type moves. Shiinotic is a combined Grass/Fairy type pokemon. This gives him a resistance to Fighting-type moves. It also needs to be mentioned that Gus' ability is Effect Spore. This means that each time Hariyama makes physical contact with him, there is a chance he'll be poisoned/paralyzed/left asleep.

To begin this battle, Armin is going to tell Gus to use Ingrain. Using this move, he'll root himself to the ground. This means he won't be able to escape the battle anymore, but also means he'll be able to recover 1/16th of his full HP every turn. Next Armin will have Gus use his Fairy-type moves (Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast) on Hariyama. He'll also keep his fingers crossed that contact with Gus will leave Hariyama with status effects. Should this not happen though, he'll toss in a sleep powder at some point. Through ingrain, Gus will be recovering 1/16th of his health every turn, but in addition to that, if it looks like his health is getting low, Armin will have him use Giga/Mega drain to drain Hariyama's HP and add it to his own health. And that all the way until Hariyama goes down.

Onto Chuck's Breloom. Breloom is a fighting/grass type pokemon. To count it, Armin will be bringing out Mina the Crobat. Breloom is grass/fighting, which leaves it extra vulnerable to flying type moves and vulnerable to poison type moves. Mina is a flying/poison type pokemon with a strong resistance to fighting type moves and grass ones. Mina will also be entering this battle without a held item.

However, Armin wouldn't be Armin is he didn't do his homework. When looking up Breloom, he saw they could either have the ability Effect Spore (he is very familiar with that one) or Poison Heal. He doesn't know which ability Chuck's Breloom has, so he's come prepared with a good supply of healing items to heal any status effect Breloom might leave. Additionally, he's not going to use any of Mina's poison type moves until he has confirmation on Breloom's ability. So basically, if Breloom at any point inflicts a status effect on Mina, he'll know it cannot have Poison Heal and he'll have Mina use her poison type moves too. However, if Breloom fails to inflict any status effects this way, he'll assume that it has the Poison Heal ability and will put the kibosh on any poison type moves.

Thankfully, Mina still has plenty of flying type moves to make Breloom's life absolutely crap. Furthermore, Mina was bred by Ford -- everything worth achieving is worth overachieving -- Pines, which means she also has the move Brave Bird. He'll start the battle off using Acrobatics (power doubled due to lack of a held item). If a status effect is inflicted on Mina through contact, Armin will take a turn to heal her, before dipping into her poison type moves as well. If Mina's HP ends up low, he'll have her use Giga Drain to replenish it. Once Breloom's HP is low enough, Armin will finish things off with a hard-hitting Brave Bird.

Next, it's Chuck's Primeape. Armin will leave Mina in, but he will use his first turn to fully heal her HP. Primeape is a pure fighting type with a weakness to flying. Mina still has her strong resistance to fighting type moves.

Compared to the last fight, this strategy will be far more straight forward. Mina will start off with Poison Fang in the hopes of poisoning Primeape. After that, it's back to her old tricks. Her old Acrobatics tricks, that is. Additionally, to stay out of reach of Primeape's moves, Armin'll also have her use Fly. If Primeape gets a good strike in, He'll have her use Giga-drain to recover lost HP. Most of the focus in this battle will be on Mina's flying type moves, and as before, once Primeape is low enough in HP, he'll try and finish it up with another Brave Bird. Even if Mina's gotta take herself out to do it.

Then we arrive at Chuck's final Pokemon: his Toxicroak. Armin will switch out Mina (if she didn't take herself out, that is) and instead bring out an old and faithful companion: Amadeus his Noctowl. Toxicroak is a Poison/Fighting type, with a weakness to both Flying and Psychic moves. Amadeus is a Normal/Flying pokemon. It doesn't have any particular weaknesses or resistances to Toxicroak's type, but Amadeus does have a wide array of Psychic-type moves. Might not get STAB bonus, but they are still gonna be very effective.

Which is why it won't be a surprise that in this fight, Amadeus' psychic moves will take centre stage. He'll start things off with Hypnosis, hoping to put his opponent to sleep. If asleep, he'll use Dream Eater to both damage Toxicroak and regain any lost HP. In addition to Hypnosis, Armin will also have Amadeus use Zen Headbutt (20% chance of flinching), Extrasensory and Psychic. If Toxicroak happens to inflict any status effects on Amadeus, Armin will have him use Psycho Shift to transfer the condition onto Toxicroak. And if Amadeus' HP looks dangerously low, he'll have him use Roost, then get back to the psychic attacks when healed.

Armin will be bringing his Skarmory and Incineroar as back-ups for any of his pokemon unexpectedly go down. Hilde is a flying type, which many of Chuck's pokemon are weak too. Magellan, meanwhile, is just going to be thrown in there based on sheer power.

Character: Noctis Lucis Caelum | [personal profile] thenightsky

Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Highwind (lv. 50)
Ana (lv. 72)

Battle Details:
Ana is going to come out first in this battle, taking on the Girafarig and using it's weakness to Dark types against it. Noct is going to have her start off with Dark Pulse right out the gate and with her significant level advantage over her opponent, if that doesn't take it down the prince will honestly be surprised. If need be, he'll have Ana use Night Slash to finish it off for sure but honestly it should go down pretty easy.

For the Clefable, Noct is going to switch Ana out for Highwind who will use his Poison typing against the Clefable. Highwind will use Poison Tail first then follow it up with Toxic, Noct not wanting to give the Clefable an inch if he can help it. If they need to, he'll have Highwind finish it off with Sludge Bomb to do a lot of damage all at once and knock the Clefable out of the match.

And last but not least comes to the Miltank. Noct is going to switch Ana back in for this one and basically just use brute force against the other Pokemon. The prince will have his Weavile use Hyper Beam for the sheer force of power and follow it up with Dark Pulse for another good blast of sheer power. Once again Ana's sheer level advantage should make this an easy win for her.

Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team:
Kotetsu (lv. 57)
Mac Lir (lv. 59)

Battle Details:
Kotetsu is going to take lead against the Skarmory given the iron bird's weakness to fire. Fire Fang will be his first attack, hitting the other Pokemon hard and fast before following it up with Flamethrower to add more pain to what he's already done. This should take the Skarmory out but another round of Flamethrower will be used if need be.

The Charmeleon is going to stay in for the next round, facing off against the Magneton and once again use it's fire typing to it's advantage. They're evenly matched for level but his fire attacks will play in his favor and Kotetsu is going to hit hard and fast as Noct will have him use Fire Spin first to trap the other Pokemon in a vortex. If need be he'll end it all with Inferno should the Fire Spin not be enough to take the other Pokemon down in the end.

Now comes Steelix. While Kotetsu has an advantage here is well he's much weaker than the other Pokemon which is where Mac Lir comes in. The Gyarados has an advantage as well with her typing so she's going to take on the other Pokemon and assault it with a barrage of Surf and Hydro Pump. If necessary Aqua Tail will be used to finish the other Pokemon off should that combo of attacks not be enough.

Character: Shiro | [personal profile] shiro2hero
Badge/Gym Leader: Mahogany
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: Here
Battle Details: Once again, Shiro is playing to type matchups here, leading off with his Incineroar and favoring fire and fighting-based attacks. Should she be knocked out, or incapacitated, he'll switch to his Marowak, and go for rock type moves along with the fighting style ones Marowak knows. Backing them up with defensive moves like Protect and Heal pulse is, again, his Gallade. If all else fails, he'll attempt to brute force the gym with his Aggron and its rock/steel moves.

Badge/Gym Leader: Blackthorn
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Battle Details: Blackthorn sees an odd choice of a starting pokemon. Shiro throws out his Spheal. His absurdly high level Spheal. She'll favor Ice type attacks right off the bat. For the most part in this fight, he'll stay with his Spheal. Backing her up, again, is his Marowak, and Aggron with their rock type moves. Rounding out his pokemon for the fight is his Gallade, but in an offensive position, wielding all the fairy type moves it knows.

Character: Shoto Todoroki | [personal profile] rimeblaze
Badge/Gym Leader: Rainbow Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team:
Blaze (lv. 61)
Castor (lv. 62)

Battle Details:
Given their level advantage and type advantage, Shoto isn't going to use much strategy for this battle and allow for more of just an all out brawl.

Blaze will go first, taking on the Jumpluff. She'll come out of the gate using Flame Charge, cloaking herself in flames and attacking the other while boosting her speed stat in the process. She'll follow this up with Ember to take the other out completely. She'll stay in against the Tangrowth and use Ember against her opponent twice in a row rather than utilizing Flame Charge like she did against the Jumpluff. If necessary she will use Flame Charge against the Tangrowth but hopefully one of the Embers will leave a burn and help take the other Pokemon out with just those two attacks.

Castor will swap in against the Bellossom and use Inferno to make the grass Pokemon's day pretty terrible. If need be she'll use Fire Blast to finish the battle completely but Shoto's hoping Inferno will end things quickly enough.
sunspotted: at 50 cent beer night? (ONE HOUR IN THE BALL PIT)

backdated to during the contest event!

[personal profile] sunspotted 2019-02-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Marco Bott | [personal profile] sunspotted
Badge/Gym Leader: Rainbow Badge/Erika
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Viola (100), Niles (64), Teddy (100), Sushi (90).
Battle Details: Marco is taking advantage of types here - he's bringing Viola and Niles in and expects them to carry the battles, for the most part. Teddy and Sushi are there as backup in case something goes terribly awry. This time, he has stocked up on some antidotes since he knows that these grass types have Poison Powder. Viola is smug as hell about performing, and Niles has a strong bond with both her and Marco.

Since Jumpluff is especially weak to ice, he's leading with Viola, who'll start out with Safeguard (and recast as needed). Beyond that, she'll be casting Sheer Cold in the hopes to faint the opposing pokemon out the gate, and if it fails, she'll be casting Aurora Beam and Blizzard until the Jumpluff faints.

He'll switch out Viola for Niles at this point. This is Niles' first big battle and he's raring to go! He starts out casting Supersonic in the hopes he can confuse the Tangrowth and keep it from casting Poison Powder (though the antidote is for that). After that, he'll be using Fury Attack (which has same-type attack bonus and with his ability, Skill link, should always hit five times) and Drill Beak. He also has Roost if he needs Niles to heal up.

If for some reason Niles succumbs to the Tangrowth, he'll switch in Viola, cast Safeguard, and use the same method as before. Marco will also revive Niles during her Safeguarded turns.

Viola gets brought out (or left in) for this last round. Bellossum knows a lot of status effects, and Marco wants to use Safeguard to his advantage here. Other than that, he'll be counting on the type and level difference to carry Viola to victory with more uses of Blizzard and Aurora Beam.

If for some reason things go really awry, he has Teddy, at level 100, and Sushi, at level 90, to mop up or buy time to revive Viola.

Character: Jack Morrison | [personal profile] unabates
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr Badge/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Dixie (33), Crybaby (level 36), Bandit (level 40), and Scout (level 32).
Battle Details: Jack has a Plan (TM) for this battle, especially since he knows level-wise he's cutting it close. He's got a couple revives and a few potions on hand. Crybaby refuses to leave his side, ever, and he's trained Bandit since day one to listen to him. Dixie is here for Crybaby, so her goal is not to fall and set a good example for her.

Opening up against the Noctowl is his Houndour, Dixie, since she's immune to psychic moves. Giving Noctowl's attacks have a huge portion of psychic types, he'll only have to worry about the status moves, and the normal and flying attack types. He's going to build up some attack power with Howl, let loose a Smog, and then hit her with Feint Attack and Fire Fang. If things look dicey, Dixie will pull out Beat Up, and get in some extra shots with the other pokemon.

Should Dixie for any reason fall against the Noctowl, he'll sub in Scout to finish up, since he has access to Flare Blitz.

He's trading Dixie (or Scout) for Crybaby against the Honchkrow. This is her first big battle and she's been training all week... because Jack knows it has a weakness to Fairy-type moves. To start, Jack's going to have her Sing, and if that fails, try to Charm the Honchkrow... then hit it hard with Disarming Voice. If Crybaby manages to sing the Honchkrow to sleep, Jack will follow up with Wake Up Slap for big damage after a couple uses of Disarming Voice.

Finally, the Pidgeot is going to meet his baby, Bandit. The Rockruff has plenty of Rock moves to use. He'll start off with Rock Tomb, then Howl, and basically his plan here is just to Rock Slide the Pidgeot to death and hope Bandit doesn't get taken down too hard by any Sand Attack. If Bandit falls for any reason, he's got Scout, Crybaby and Dixie to clean up, but he'll definitely be saving his heals for Bandit and his revives as well.

Character: Jack Morrison | [personal profile] unabates
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive/Bugsy
Elite/Regular: REGULAR TEAM
Team: Bandit, Scout, Crybaby, Dixie, and Absolute Last Resort Laika.
Battle Details: HERE WE GO, another close-level match up for Jack Morrison. He knows all of his Pokemon have weaknesses against certain members of Bugsy's team, so he's going to be playing hard to type disadvantages. He's got a stock of potions and a couple revives - but only a couple.

He'll open with Bandit against the Pinsir, playing to that hard disadvantage against rock. He's also going to open with Taunt, hoping to keep the Pinsir from building energy or defense at the start. He'll hit hard with Rock Edge, then start slamming Rock Slide in the hopes to keep the Pinsir flinching until it goes down.

He's swapping Bandit for Crybaby against the Heracross. This is a risky move, considering Fighting is Crybaby's only weakness, and Heracross has a few moves that can hurt her. He's going to open with Charm, however, and then slam Disarming Voice. If he has to, he'll toss some potions onto Crybaby to keep her up. Should she fall, Jack is bringing out Bandit and hoping he can clean up. Should Bandit fall, his backup is Scout, who should be able to clean house.

Scout will be the last swapped in (or left in) for the Scizor, for that x4 weakness to fire. If he was left in, Jack will heal him up and then Revive Crybaby (her lack of weaknesses to the Scizor makes her a backup choice). Agility and then liberal use of Flame Burst and Flame Wheel are the name of the game here.

Should Scout fall, Dixie is coming in to hammer hard with fire moves. Should she fall, Bandit will be subbed in - if he's still unconscious, then Jack is bringing in Crybaby with Double Edge.

Should all of the previous Pokemon fall, Jack will absolutely sub in his last resort, Laika. At level 48, she should be able to handle a Scizor - but she's also not originally his and not inclined to listen to him.

He's just hoping if the Scizor attacks her, that she'll get pissed off enough to return the favor with fire while he revives and heals up Scout.

But, if he's lucky, he hopefully won't have to use her.

Character: Marco Bott | [personal profile] sunspotted
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm/Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Viola, Niles, Latte, Lucia, Francis (Torracat), & Rowana
Battle Details: Marco is bringing his A-team out for this fight, coming stocked with lots of Super Potions and Revive. Its time to get Fly, baby.

Marco starts out Viola against the Hitmonlee. He's having her use Baby Doll Eyes at the start, aiming to hit the Hitmonlee where it hurts, and then Tail Whip. He'll be following that up with Dazzling Gleam and, when it runs out, Extrasensory. Should Viola get taken down by Blaze Kick, Niles will hold down the fort with his host of Fly moves and his resistance to fighting.

Ice switches for Fire with Lucia coming out against the Hitmonchan. She's not weak to fighting and resists most of the elemental punches it has, which makes her a perfect choice. She'll be opening up with Sunny Day, then Odor Sleuth, and using her most powerful fire moves against him. Francis is her backup in this fight in case she falls, sharing similar resistances to her. EDIT: This is why I'm noting Francis is a Torracat! Marco has asked him to hold off for this fight specifically, given Incineroar's weakness to fighting. He'll be evolving after this specific section of the battle, so if he's subbed in against the Poliwrath he is fighting with that weakness.

Latte makes her appearance fighting the Poliwrath. She's immune to his fighting and normal moves, and resists his water and ground moves. She'll be laying down Leech Seed to keep her health up, using Scary Face to make sure she goes first, and then hitting him with Grass moves like Bullet Bomb and Bullet Seed. Rowana is her backup in this fight, having access to powerful Grass moves such as Giga Drain.

Character: Marco Bott | [personal profile] sunspotted
Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral/Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Lucia, Francis (Incineroar), Latte, Sushi, Teddy & Niles
Battle Details: Surf, baby. For the first time, Viola is not making an appearance at a gym - given her weakness to steel, Marco has boxed her. It's time for his fire types to shine, and he's brought plenty of Super Potions and Revives for them.

Lucia is pulling her weight to start against the Skarmory. She's pulling out a Sunny Day again, then switching into Francis, who will take advantage of the Sunny Day setup and spam his Fire moves against the Skarmory. Lucia will get switched back in should he fail, but Marco doesn't expect much of a problem here.

Francis is staying in against the Magneton, aiming this time to use his host of Fighting-type moves. Lucia is again his backup if it goes awry, coming in with a second Sunny Day and any remaining Fire moves.

Little Latte is taking on the Steelix - she's immune to his Norma/Fight-type moves, and resistant to Ground/Electric, leaving the only worry about his Ice and Fire moves. She's laying down Leech Seed to counteract that and hitting him with Grass and Ghost moves. If things look dicey, she'll pull out Explosion at low health. Sushi is her replacement here, high-level and not particularly weak to any moves Steelix has, and can reliably inflict normal damage via her Dark moves.

Teddy and Niles are mostly damage sponges in case someone's backup goes down, giving Marco time to revive and heal up his primary fighter for each round.

With Blue relying on Psychic type moves and Green sticking to flying (which is going to look bizarre coming from a banana dinosaur with leaf wings), Shiro's once again playing to type advantages. His Gengar is the backup, should either of those two falter, with its resistance to physical moves and Hypnosis ability. In the event those three can't get the job done, his last resort is brute force with his Aggron and its high defense.

He's going to send out Buddy first, and will use Feint Attack until the Haunter faints. Should Buddy faint at any point, he'll switch to Flounder for a (hopefully) quick KO with Crunch. He'll switch out for Max after that, choosing to increase his Pokemon's level as Morty does the same. Max will use Night Slash against the Misdreavus, again until the opposing Pokemon faints.

For the Gengar, Flounder will come back out. Using a combination of Crunch and Night Slash, Connor hopes to brute force a victory. Should either of his previous Pokemon have fainted, Connor will take the opportunity to revive them so he has a backup Pokemon incase Flounder doesn't quite make it. If both fainted, he'll revive Max.

Character: Dandy | [personal profile] adandyinspace
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog Badge - Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Martini (lv 66), Lulu (lv 64), Ass Rat (lv 66)
Battle Details:

Dandy isn't much of a trainer, but he does really want to surf and he has been putting extra effort into training his little monsters ever since the last contest rolled around. Who knew trying to score sweet moves also made them stronger? He's also not the brightest when it comes to type advantages, but his two favorite Pokémon just happen to be dark-type. Is he aware they have the upper hand? It's hard to tell with him.

Martini would be first since she's his baby and it finally gives her a chance to legally bite someone. So of course her move of choice would be Crunch. She's not evolved, but she does have Hustle which means when she does hit, she hits hard. Chances are she'd also use Roar a lot to forcibly switch Morty's Pokémon just to be annoying, because this wouldn't be a Dandy battle if it wasn't really annoying.

Honolulu Hot Wings isn't a dark-type like the others, but she is a normal-type, which means ghost moves aren't hitting her. Dandy will find that hilarious until he realizes normal-type moves aren't hitting either. What the hell?? Oh well, she still has her flying-type moves, including Beak Blast. At the off chance any of these ghosts make physical contact with her while she charges up, they could get a nasty burn. Other than that, she's mostly here for the pure power, but that doesn't mean poison-type moves can't do her in.

Thankfully there's Dandy's pride and joy, Ass Rat. She has the advantage of being a dark-type AND has the resistance that comes with being a fellow poison-type. Like Martini, she packs powerful moves like Crunch and Sucker Punch, but she's also much faster and can probably take more hits. She also has her Stench ability, which can cause a flinch with any of her attacking moves. (Or just make other Pokémon not want to come near her because she smells.)

Goodness have I been behind on submitting these things. Starting off with the first of two that would have been back in October and early November:

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain/Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Levels of the team at the time this occurred: Lute (Absol) | Lvl 53, Arlert (Hoothoot) | Lvl 53, Libera (Skiddo at the time) | Lvl 31, Jaeger (Litleo at the time) | Lvl 19
Battle Details: Jaeger is there to observe as he's going to be of no help during this fight.

Heading to Goldenrod, Annie will be swinging by the Dept. Store to pick up Toxic for Lute, her Absol. In the past few weeks he's learned Iron Tail from a tutor while they were in Ecruteak, which may be useful during this gym fight.

Girafarig leads in this gym, and with its weaknesses to Bug and Dark, Lute will face off with them in that first battle. Straight out of the gate, Lute will hit with a Sucker Punch, taking both the STAB and the increased effectiveness of Dark against Girafarig to potentially take them out in one hit.

Clefable follows, and while weak to individual moves Lute has, they're not weak to his strongest moves. As he's weak to Fairy type moves, and one of the few evolution moves Clefable carries over from Clefairy is Moonblast (dun dun dun!) it's best if he's not headlining when he can't guarantee a one hit knock-out.

While he's still in as Clefable is tossed into battle, he'll attempt to hit with Toxic, switching out with Arlert after he's likely hit with Moonblast, bringing his energy to reduced levels. Should Toxic have succeeded in poisoning Clefable, now begins a game of attrition as Clefable goes between offensive and HP restoring moves, and Arlert (a Hoothoot) will continue to attack, Roost if necessary, and otherwise help wear down Clefable with the assistance of poison and leech seed. (It's also possible that Lute could withstand the first hit and retailiate with Iron Tail to take a poisoned Clefable out, but the hit rate isn't high enough to guarantee he won't be knocked out, so in this case, Annie plays to the longer fight because she wants him in against the Miltank at the end.)

If needed, Libera (Skiddo) will switch in for a turn to lay down Leech Seed, which should continue to give HP back to Arlert when she's brought back in, continuing the attrition game with Clefable. Toward the end of the battle, Arlert will be asked to use Reflect, leaving it in effect (hopefully) for the battle starting with Miltank soon.

Lute will be brought back in with Miltank, healed by berry or potion if he has any damage and taking the first hit Miltank dishes out, perhaps halved if Reflect was both successful and still in effect because the timing was right with its use. While Miltank has Milk Drink and thus can regain HP in halves of its total, between Lute using Swords Dance to up his attack, and hitting hard with Sucker Punch or Night Slash as a follow up with STAB, Miltank will be taken out of the fight. Or so goes the hope!

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart
Badge/Gym Leader: Fog/Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Levels of the team at the time this occurred: Lute (Absol) | Lvl 61, Arlert (Hoothoot) | Lvl 61 with Libera (Skiddo at the time) | Lvl 39, Jaeger (Litleo at the time) | Lvl 27, and Aphrodite (Riolu) | Lvl 48 in reserve. Annie only plans on using Lute and Arlert for this gym.
Battle Details: Starting out with Arlert (Hoothoot) to face the Haunter, a Pokemon conveniently immune to Ghost (and since switchouts don't seem to happen in gym battles, it should incline Haunter toward using Poison or Dark moves, or attempt and fail to use Hypnosis against Arlert).

Annie will first see if leading with Hypnosis will be productive; if it is, then Haunter will be asleep, and Arlert will finish them off with Dream Eater while sustaining no damage herself. Should Hypnosis not take, she can use her other Psychic-type moves for the extra effectiveness against Haunter, such as Extrasensory or Zen Headbutt, thus taking Haunter out of the battle, though not without a need to heal along the way depending on what waking attacks Haunter throws out. Hence strategically trying to keep Haunter asleep since the start of the battle.

Once Haunter is handled, Misdreavus takes the field, and Arlert will be there to start. Misdreavus does not share the same weaknesses, and so it's more to advantage to switch Lute (Absol) in to handle this opponent. Lute has resistance to Ghost type attacks, and is immune to Psychic type attacks, which would limit Misdreavus to Normal and Dark type attacks out of those they have through leveling up by that point. As Dark type moves are both a weakness of Misdreavus, and also afford STAB from Lute, that's going to be the focus of this fight. The short order would be to use Swords Dance to up Lute's attack, then follow up with Sucker Punch or a newly learned Knock Off to take Misdreavus out of the fight.

Gengar will be pulled on-field at the end, with a greater span of attacks they're weak to, as well as those they're resistant toward. Lute is still running Swords Dance as he hasn't switched out, so he'll lead with hitting STAB and Gengar's weakness against Dark type moves using Sucker Punch. With the level differences and the increased attack power, STAB, and weakness to Dark type moves, this is likely to be a one hit knock-out, giving the victory to Lute and Arlert. Hopefully!

Battle Details: Obviously, Armin is bringing a hell of a lot of items to these matches, making sure to heal up his pokemon in between fights. Also enjoy Armin's battle music. At least it is epic enough for this.

Will

Bronzong vs Magellan

Starting off, Armin will bring out Magellan the Incineroar to face off against Bronzong. Magellan is immune to psychic attacks, and resists dark/ghost/steel. Meanwhile, Bronzong is weak to fire and dark type moves.

With most of Bronzong’s attacks having little to no effect on Magellan, Armin’s strategy for this particular match rests all on Magellan’s fire moves. Armin will start off with Flame Charge, which will boost Magellan’s speed each time it is used. After two or three turns of this, he’ll switch to using Fire Fang for that double chance of both burning and causing Bronzong to flinch. Of course, he’ll be keeping an eye on Magellan’s HP, but considering Bronzong’s pool of attacks, he isn’t particularly worried about Magellan making it through this round with most of his health intact.

Jynx vs Magellan

Onto the next match! Armin will leave Magellan in, so he can continue to enjoy that boosted speed. Again, Magellan is immune to Psychic attacks but also resists ice type moves. Jynx is ice/psychic, leaving it with a weakness to both dark and fire type moves.

Armin’s main concern with this battle is Jynx’s potential for putting Magellan to sleep using Lovely Kiss. As such, he has a bunch of Awakenings on hand in case Jynx’s succeeds at that. Beyond that, much like the previous match, most of this fight will be pretty straight forward, with Armin concentrating on using Magellan’s fire type moves. With his speed still boosted from the previous match, Armin will once again have Magellan use Fire Fang on Jynx for that chance of burn/flinch. Should his HP be starting to get low, Armin will have Magellan use Drain Punch on Jynx to recover some of that HP, switching that up with a few Fire Punches until Jynx is down and out.

Grumpig vs Nemesis

Once Jynx is defeated, Armin will withdraw Magellan and bring out Nemesis the Sharpedo instead. She is a water/dark type, and is immune to psychic attacks. She also resists ghost/dark damage. Grumpig is a psychic type who is weak to dark. Additionally, most of its moves are psychic (with some dark/ghost)

For this battle, Armin will be focusing on Nemesis’ dark type moves. He’ll first focus on using Crunch, which has a chance of lowering Grumpig’s defence. Once that is down a stage or two, he’ll switch to using Night Slash which has a high critical hit ratio. There is a chance of Grumpig confusing Nemesis, so Armin has plenty of items on hand for that and should that happen, he will immediately heal her the turn after it happens. He does not want that self-inflicted damage, thank you. Apart from that, he does not expect a lot of trouble in this match.

Slowbro vs Nemesis

Next match, Armin will leave Nemesis in to face off against Slowbro. Slowbro is a water/psychic type and most of its attacks are either Psychic (which Nemesis is immune to) or water (which she resists)

Starting off this match, Armin will have Nemesis Mega-evolve for just that extra little boost. Due to this, Nemesis’ ability will change to Strong Jaw, which increases the damage done with biting moving by 50%. Like before, Armin will first focus on using Crunch (both biting move and dark move) to lower Grumpig’s defence. When the PP for this move will run low, he will switch to using bite (dark move/biting/chance of flinching).

Gardevoir vs Octavius

For the next match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis, and instead, send out Octavius the Dhelmise. Octavius is a grass/ghost type, with no relevant weaknesses/resistances. Gardevoir is psychic/fairy, which is weak to ghost/steel.

Starting off, Octavius has the ability steelworker. This boosts his steel type moves with 50%. Armin will have him use Heavy Slam. Heavy Slam does more damage, the bigger the weight difference between Dhelmise and Gardevoir. Gardevoir weighs 106lbs, Dhelmise 463lbs. This puts the power of the move in the 20-25% category making it 100, which then is further boosted by his Steelworker ability to 150. After pummelling Gardevoir a few times with Heavy Slam, Armin will switch to having Octavius use Astonish (30% of flinching) and Phantom Force.

If Octavius’ HP starts running low at any point, Armin will have him use Giga/mega drain to recover some of that.

Xatu vs Circinus

Onto the final match. For this match, Armin will withdraw Octavius and bring out Circinus the Electrode. Circinus is an electric type and resists flying type moves. Xatu is a Flying/psychic type, who is weak to electric attacks. Additionally, Circinus is holding a Magnet, which boosts the power of his electric type moves with 20% (on top of STAB bonus)

For this battle, Armin will first have Circinus use Charge (doubles the power of the next move if it is an electric type move) and then will have him use Thunder (10% chance of paralysing target). Thunder normally has a power of 110. With stab that is 165; with Circinus’ magnet that makes 197; with Charge that makes 394.

Armin is kinda hoping to knock Xatu out in two moves, but if not, he’ll repeat his charge -> thunder combo until it does.

Koga
Skunktank vs Nemesis

To start off this match, Armin will bring out Nemesis. She is water dark, so she has a resistance against dark attacks. Skunktank is poison/dark.

This is one match-up where Armin has very little in terms of clever strategies or preying on an opponent’s weaknesses. Instead, for this match, he’s simply going to depend on Nemesis’ strength to get him through. To start, he will have Nemesis mega-evolve once more into Mega Sharpedo. Then he’ll have her use Agility to boost her speed. Next, though its damage will be more limited, Armin will first focus on having Nemesis use Crunch, to lower Skunktank’s defence a level or two. With those stat changes set up, it’s time to simply throw down until one of the two goes down. Armin will focus on having Nemesis use her strongest water type attacks (Surf, Aqua Jet, Dive) and once Skunktank’s health is low enough he’ll try and finish things up with a Hyper Beam.

Venomoth vs Magellan

For this match, Armin will withdraw Nemesis and bring out Magellan. Magellan is a fire/dark type. Venomoth is bug/poison, which leaves it with a weakness to fire. Additionally, it has several psychic moves which Magellan is immune to.

As we all know, the best way of dealing with bugs is using fire, so that is what Armin will be doing this round. Fire Fang, Flare Blitz, Flamethrower, all will see some use here. And once Venomoth is low enough in health, Armin will finish up the match by having Magellan use Blast Burn.

Toxicroak vs Amadeus

At the start of this match, Armin will withdraw Magellan in favour of Amadeus. Amadeus is a flying/normal type, which means he is immune to any ghost and ground attacks Toxicroak has. Toxicroak is poison/fighting which leaves him with a weakness to fighting and a double weakness to psychic.

Amadeus has a lot of psychic attacks. And Armin’s strategy for this match is to simply throw all of them at Toxicroak until it goes down. He’ll start off with Psychic and work his way down the list. Should Amadeus’ health start looking low, it is time to Roost, before going back to the psychic attacks.

Swalot vs Octavius

Another match, another Pokemon. Armin will withdraw Amadeus and bring out Octavius instead. Octavius is grass/ghost. As such, it is immune to normal type attacks. Swalot is a poison type pokemon, but roughly half its attacks are normal type and will be useless. Additionally, it is weak to ground. Octavius knows the move Bulldoze, which is a ground type move. Armin’s strategy for this match is to essentially have Octavius use Bulldoze until Swalot goes down, with an option of using Giga/Mega drain should his HP get low.

Crobat vs Circinus

For this match, Armin will bring out Circinus. Circinus is an electric type pokemon who resists flying type moves. Crobat is poison/flying with a weakness to electric attacks.

Armin’s strategy here is going to be a repeat of his strategy against Will’s Xatu. Charge + Thunder. Repeat if necessary.

Muk vs Amadeus

For this last match, Armin is bringing back Amadeus. If his HP is low from the previous fight, he will heal him on the first turn. Muk is a poison type, with a weakness to psychic moves. Additionally, it has several ground type moves, which Amadeus is immune to.

This match too will be all about Amadeus’ psychic attacks. Armin will repeat his strategy of the last match with one minor change. Because Roosting will temporarily make Amadeus vulnerable to ground attacks, instead Armin will have Amadeus use Hypnosis + Dream eater if his HP ever starts getting low.

Bruno
Armin is aiming to take down Bruno with one single pokemon. Namely his Dhelmise Octavius. Octavius. Octavius, being a grass/ghost is immune to both fighting and normal type moves. All of Bruno’s pokemon are fighting type pokemon whose moves predominately consist of either normal or fighting type moves. Which again, Octavius is completely immune to.

For all of these matches, Octavius will use his strongest Grass/Ghost/Steel moves which get a STAB boost/Steelworker boost, sprinkling in the occasional Giga drain/Mega drain if his health gets low. Of course, this strategy will eat through his PP *fast*, so Armin is standing by with Max Elixers and some health potions, just in case.

Battle Details:
Newt is going for type advantages and also Ripley for this gym. Vasquez will go after the Misdreavus first, being a dark type and having the advantage.

Then Sleepy and Hudson will take on the Haunter and Genger in whatever order they come out in. Also having advantages against the two pokemon.

Depending on how the fights go. Ripley is there to support any of them. Especially if things start to take a turn. But for this battle she's mostly there for moral support and the fact that Newt fights better with her there.

Character: Ray Stantz | [personal profile] ghoststanning
Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular Team!
Team: Crackle Lotus and Jackie
Battle Details: Crackle is gonna be the front runner for this battle, starting off each member of Falkner's Team with a combo of Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave, and using Substitute to deflect any damage his birds could land on Crackle.

Offensively, Ray is going to mostly just use Thunder Shock on his opponents, maybe with an Astonish thrown in there to really annoy Falkner.

Lotus will be there mostly as a backup, using Electroweb to slow them down and Electro Ball to attack!

Jackie, meanwhile, is entirely backup, since she's his strongest and bulkiest member of the team.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner
Elite/Regular: regular
Team: Bond (Talonflame, lvl 63), The Critics (Dodrio, lvl 60), and Kildarby (Murkrow, lvl 46). birds vs birds
Battle Details:

Honestly, Bond wants to win this whole match by herself. The Critics and Kildarby are there are backup.

Bond comes out first, obviously, and will immediately set up Double Team, then a Swords Dance, maybe an Agility. She's got a lot of hard-hitting moves, particularly Brave Bird and Flare Blitz, and she's not shy about using them. If her health starts to fall too low, she's got Roost to bring herself back up to par. Absolute worst case scenario, she can U-Turn to one of the other birds, giving them her stat boosts.

If Bond is defeated or swapped out, The Critics also have Swords Dance, Double Team, Agility, and Roost, so the same general strategy applies to them as well, particularly if they haven't been U-Turn'd in. Instead of Brave Bird and Flare Blitz, they've got firepower in the form of Drill Peck, Sky Attack, and Thrash.

Finally, Kildarby. She's not as beefed up as the previous birds, both in level and movesets, but she's still got Double Team, as well as Assurance, Feint Attack, and Foul Play, all of which may be useful depending on the context of how the battle goes.

Also, no matter what, whenever a new Pokemon is switched in by Falkner? Toxic. All of Venkman's Pokemon know Toxic. No matter what, they will prioritize that once they've upped their evasion, if applicable. It's Venkman's dream to eventually be able to ruin gym leader's days with a horrible Confuse Ray + Toxic + Attract + Double Team combination, but for now he has to settle for just Toxic and Double Team. It's sad.

Team: Ripley | Arcanine (Lv.100) , Hudson| Marowak (Lv. 100), Flame | Charmeleon (Lv. 85), Reliable | Rapidash (Lv. 100)

Battle Details:

A gym where all the pokemon have a disadvantage to Fire types you say. As tempted as she is to just use all her fire types, Newt likes to be as prepared as she can be when going into a fight. That's why she'll bring a powerful ground pokemon along with her. So almost all fire.

Flame the Charmeleon will face off against the Skarmory, with Reliable there as back up if he gets taken out.

Meanwhile Hudson is going to go up against Magneton due to his ground type advantage.

Lastly, Ripley will face off against the Seelix as she has the most experience, but with the other two fire types there in case she needs back up.

Onward with the backdated gyms! That week in November, she hopped the train into Kanto for a brief period of time... ending up in Saffron City.

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart

Badge/Gym Leader: Marsh Badge/Sabrina
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lute | Lvl 69, Arlert | Lvl 69, Libera | Lvl 47, Jaeger (Litleo) | Lvl 35, Aphrodite | Lvl 56. Lute is the only one intended to fight in this Gym, though the rest of the team traveling with Annie is on hand in case Lute ends up being knocked out.

Battle Details: This gym is going to be an Absol-lute blast; also, it's going to be Lute taking point and staying as point for the whole.

The big consideration out the gate is how Espeon has through leveling up one Fairy skill that Lute, as an Absol, is weak toward. Being hit by Baby Doll Eyes will decrease his attack capability, but his own raising of his attack stat through Swords Dance will still bring him over base power. Say he's even fighting at just 1.5 times his usual attack capacity, and he's already packing a harder punch. When paired with STAB Dark-type moves, or any move his opposing pokemon are weak toward, he's still in a good spot.

Thus, assume Espeon does start out with Baby Doll Eyes. Lute will be asked to use Swords Dance, offsetting the cut to his attack power, while not achieving full two times his attack power. However, given the speed with which his follow up attack of Sucker Punch can hit, regardless of what Espeon plans on doing, they'll be hit first. Sucker Punch is both a STAB move, and a type of move that Espeon is weak to, and will take Espeon out with a successful hit. If Espeon was ordered to use a status effect that turn, making Sucker Punch fail, Annie will have Lute use Night Slash the following turn. The Espeon will be taken out of the battle at that point.

Lute retains his attack increase (roughly 1.5x ATK) when Mr. Mime is subbed in. Mr. Mime can use whichever attack he likes; Annie will ask for Lute to use Iron Tail to capitalise on Mr. Mine's weakness to Iron-type moves. Between the type move and the increased attack power, along with the difference in levels, a successful hit should take Mr. Mime out of the battle. It also doesn't rely on Mr. Mime using a non-status effect attack, like Sucker Punch does.

This brings in Alakazam, another pokemon with a weakness to Dark Type moves. Still carrying his increased attack power, Lute can hit with Night Slash for the STAB and type-effectiveness, taking Alakazam out of the battle. This presumes Alakazam might use a status effect first, where Sucker Punch would fail.

---

The second gym she reaches, two days later after traveling to Cerulean City, will also be challenged:

Badge/Gym Leader: Cascade Badge/Misty
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lute | Lvl 71, Arlert | Lvl 71, Libera | Lvl 49, Jaeger (Litleo) | Lvl 37, Aphrodite | Lvl 58. Libera and Aphrodite will be fighting; the rest are there with Annie and will only step in should Libera and Aphrodite be knocked out.

Battle Details: Libera, now a Gogoat, has her chance to head into a Kanto Gym battle as a lead. She'll face off against Golduck to start, who may well try to use Disable or Yawn, to inflict a status effect. If they do or don't hit, the first move from Libera will be the same: Horn Leech, her strongest STAB and Grass-type move which is a physical attack. Between the STAB, the type advantage (Golduck is weak to Grass-type moves) and the difference in levels, Golduck should be taken out of battle.

If Libera had Horn Leech disabled, she'll have to rely on her other Grass-type moves when Lapras is on field. Particularly Seed Bomb, which carries STAB as well as Grass-type double effectiveness against Lapras. A successful hit (and the hit will land) will take Lapras out of the fight.

In Libera had Yawn used on her, she'll still have one round of fighting before she Sleeps. Lapras shares the Grass-type weakness, and Libera gets STAB for Grass-type moves, so Horn Leech hits and will take out Lapras.

Now, if Libera is not asleep, she can face Starmie in the last round; even if Starmie sits and Hardens, the STAB and Type effectiveness of Libera's attacks will still take it out of the battle, on top of the difference in levels.

In truth, Annie will want to give different pokemon a chance to fight, especially when her Riolu has yet to do much in any gym. So what she's likely to do is switch Libera out for the second battle, allowing Aphrodite the Riolu to fight with the Lapras, and then bring Libera back in to fight with Starmie.

Riolu has STAB and Fighting-type effectiveness to bring to the table with the Lapras, and is not particularly weak to anything Lapras brings to the table. Confusion is one possible status effect she may suffer, which can either lead to taking a turn with Annie feeding her a berry to help the condition, or chancing fighting on without Confusion being cured. Annie would rather cure the Confusion, so Aphrodite will take damage in the process; however, she's both a higher level and not weak to Lapras's moves in their learnset, meaning she should survive the hit. The use of Force Palm as both STAB and a Fighting-type move Lapras is weak to should lead to Lapras being taken out of the battle. This is entirely a gratuitous switchout, as Libera would have been fine staying in for the battle.

Assuming Libera is awake, she'll face Starmie and either use Horn Leech (if it's not still disabled) or Seed Bomb (if Horn Leech is disabled). Starmie is both weak to Grass-type moves and Libera has STAB for either attack, which should, even with Starmie using Harden, take Starmie out in one hit. Not to say Libera won't take damage, as that depends on which of the four moves Starmie has that are used against Libera. Still, both the level difference and lack of type-move weaknesses means Libera should endure the hit and be able to fight onward.

If Libera is asleep, Lute will be brought in to fight Starmie, as his STAB with Dark-type moves means he is strong where Starmie has a move-type weakness (Dark). Psychic moves have no effect on Lute, thus he'd take a turn to apply Swords Dance before using Night Slash, which should take care of Starmie even if they spent two turns using Harden. (Use of Harden is why Annie prefers Night Slash instead of Sucker Punch, as it's a status move and would cause Sucker Punch to fail if used on the turn Annie asks Lute to use Sucker Punch.) One way or another, two to three pokemon will help finish out this gym battle. Or so is the hope!

Character: Dandy | [personal profile] adandyinspace
Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge - Jasmine
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Ass Rat (lv 98), Martini (lv 98), Exeggutor (lv 87)
Battle Details:

On his never ending journey to gain surfing rights, Dandy's gonna kick it into high gear after seeing all the opportunities he lost during the cruise all because his fish didn't know a move. Good thing the ship docks right in Olivine.

His team's gotten a lot stronger since his last dance at a gym, so he's banking on pure power rather than type advantages. Mostly because...none of his Pokémon have a type advantage over steel. Or so he thought.

Maybe it's silly to use a poison-type against types that are normally immune to them, but Ass Rat has Flamethrower and Dandy will absolutely call his first Pokémon out on the field his "last resort" as she starts flambéing them.

Steelix may be the only one she has a tough time with since their defense is so high AND she's weak to ground-types. So Dandy's gonna pull out his other "last resort" and test out one of Martini's newer tutor moves, Superpower. He's hoping it'll get the job done fairly easy. (Different move I know, but same idea.)

Exeggutor's there in case neither of these almost level 100 Pokémon can't take down monsters nearly 40 levels weaker than they are. He's hoping it won't come to that. Grass and dragon moves aren't exactly great on steel-types, but she has a few psychic and powder moves to help make up for that.

Character: Dandy | [personal profile] adandyinspace
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge - Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Oranguru (lv 54), Lulu (lv 96), Mochi (lv 65)
Battle Details:

This is only if Dandy wins his Olivine battle, so feel free to ignore this if he loses. But if he does win, he's absolutely going to test out Pokémon surfing the moment he smacks his mantine with the HM.

He wasn't really planning on another gym battle right away, but he's there and he can apparently score the ability to fly on his bird, so why the hell not? He's gonna stop by the PC to pick up his Oranguru really quick, because something something getting better at this type shit. The two do not get along and it shows by how Oranguru's level fell behind the others, but Dandy would have two badges by this point so he's hoping it'd make his monkey shut up and listen.

Oranguru does like to prove he's superior to other Pokémon though, and taking on a gym where his psychic-type is stronger will make him cooperate...enough. His level is around the same as his opponents', however he's also a normal-type, which means he doesn't resist their fighting-type moves. If he can get one or maybe two down, he might start respecting his trainer. Maybe. Depends if he gets the badge in the end.

Thankfully Honolulu Hot Wings has a type advantage AND is stupid over leveled, so Dandy's hoping to just finish the battle with her. If she fails somehow, there's Precious Poi Mochi for backup. She isn't nearly as over leveled as the toucannon, but her fairy-type resists fighting-moves completely unlike these half normal-type chumps AND she has grass moves to help against Poliwrath.

If he wins, Dandy's going to celebrate by flying home on the girl that helped make this happen-- What do you mean he needs a badge for that too?!

Character: Connor | [personal profile] plasticasshole
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge/Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lucy (lvl 70), Doomstar (lvl 80), Buntz (lvl 100)
Battle Details: Connor has one revive and a max potion with him.

To start the battle, Connor will be throwing out Lucy the Gothitelle against Hitmonlee. She'll use Thunder Wave to paralyse the opposing Pokemon, and then hit him with Psychic to knock him out quickly. The same goes for Hitmonchan, though if Lucy faints then Doomstar the Starmie is on hand with Confuse Ray to confuse the opponent, and then Psychic to finish it off.

When Poliwrath comes out, so does Buntz the Raichu, who will be playing to his strength against Water types rather than against Fighting types. A Thunder Wave will paralyse the Poliwrath, or any physical move against Buntz will thanks to the ability Static, and then a good Thunderbolt will hopefully win the match.

Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Growlithe (level 32), Gardevoir (level 46), Flygon (level 46), Skrelp (level 42)
Battle Details: Lena has no serious type advantage against Falkner, so she'll be leaning heavily on the slight level advantage and just hard-hitting attacks. So that means she'll start off with Flygon's Bite and Crunch attacks to soften up Falkner's pokemon, and shooting off a Hyper Beam when it looks rough to finish it off quickly. If he goes down she'll bring out Growlithe next, keeping up the same basic strategy (but using Flamethrower more liberally than Flygon's hyper beam, of course). Skrelp will lean more on his poison abilities, trying to get the status effect to stick before wailing on it with Aqua Tail and Hydro Pump, and Gardevoir will bring out all her psychic attacks to sweep up whatever those three couldn't take care of.

Battle Details: Okay so the first gym Newt is going after that she's not bringing Ripley with her. This is fine. She is fine. Jonesey will be leading the team of newer fighters but they all have type advantages and are trained well. So let's see how this goes.

Sleepy and Flowers will take turns going after the Hitmonlee and then the Hitmonchan as they both have type advantages.

Jonesey will go after the Poliwrath but also act as general back up if needed. Dandelion is back up, back up as Newt is always one to over prepare.
