Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Bertolt Hoover | [personal profile] bertall
Badge/Gym Leader: Bugsy/Hive Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular!
Team: Marcel the Growlithe and Freya the Houndoom
Battle Details: With Bertolt's 'team' being purely fire, he's going to be relying on type-advantage here.

He'll be opening up with Freya first, using the confidence she has been starting to find since evolving to take on Bugsy's first two. Should things get hairy after the first match-up or Freya go down, he'll switch to Marcel and try to focus on wearing the rest of his team down with every fire-type move he has in his arsenal.

Especially that Scizor of his. It'll be rough, but knocking this place out might be the big confidence boost Freya (and Bertolt) need!

This will be probably be taking place on the 16th, unless our guesstimates of ~3 days or less on traveling from Viridian to Indigo Plateau via Fly is horribly off...

Character: Sion Astal | [personal profile] dreamsofahero
Badge/Gym Leader: ELITE FOUR CHALLENGE
Elite/Regular: GEE I WONDER...
Team: (Roster!)

Dusk the Absol
Sion's starter, and also obviously strong against psychic and fighting types, which Will and Bruno specialize in. Has been taught a good variety of TMs, too, just in case, and Perish Song is Sion's ultimate last resort if it's down to the wire.

Jina the Glaceon
One of Sion's oldest pokémon and the first that took a lot of special care to raise. As an ice type Sion figures he'll probably be useful against Lance's dragons.

Sea the Milotic
A pokémon inherited from a friend (and originally named after him), Sion will bring Sea along primarily to act as a wall, and also against any surprise part fire/ground/rock types. Plus a few good TM moves.

River the Dragonite
Part wall, part offensive, River is coming to bring a little more type coverage to the team. Again with some extra TMs just in case.

Just the Lucario
One of the first pokémon Sion raised from an egg with the specific intent in mind of training them to be able to act somewhat independently of him, whether should an emergency arise, or just to trust to leave behind for a time to deal with something while Sion took care of something else. Just's main role is to go up against Karen's dark types, but the poison immunity won't hurt against Koga...

Valiant the Gallade
Another raised specially from egg on like Just. Valiant is Sion's primary hitter against Koga's poison types, but also his backup with a fairy-type TM in case he needs a little extra something against Karen or Lance.

Battle Details: OKAY HERE GOES...

Notes applying to all battles: Sion picked all pokémon that have been on his team for some time now, and while a large part of that is just the sheer strength of his bond with some of them, there's at least a little reasoning behind it too. Part of that being that they've all been with him long enough to either be able to partially anticipate his plans, or that he's worked out non-specific commands for them to respond to. (e.g. "do it now!" for a specific finishing move, or "just like we practiced" for a certain combination of moves, etc) So Sion will be making a LOT of use of this sort of thing just as a means to throw his opponent off or make it harder to anticipate his moves. Also, he will always take the time to fully heal his whole party between battles.

Items: Aside from coming armed with plenty of Hyper Potions and Revives, Sion will have a goodly supply of berries, primarily Sitrus berries for his team to hold and use. Because hey, having a free 25% health heal mid-fight can't hurt! And he doesn't have much else to give them for held items as those are somewhat hard to come by anyway.

And with that covered, on to the fights!

Will

Sion will, naturally, start this off with Dusk, keeping in mind that he may have to switch her out immediately should Will lead with something like a gardevoir or gallade. As it happens, however, the changes to type advantages that came with the addition of fairy type seriously works to her advantage, as steel will no longer resist her dark-type attacks. So after a Swords Dance or two to raise that attack, Dusk will let loose with Night Slash to take the Bronzong down. After that, assuming Will does the smart move and sends out Gardevoir against the dark-type, Sion will switch to Sea with Iron Tail and/or Just with Metal Claw to knock out the psychic fairy, before swapping back to Dusk to clean up the rest. Swords Dance and Night Slash will be the combo of choice, and he'll be making liberal use of Hyper Potions (or even a revive or two if needed) throughout the battle to keep Dusk in fighting shape.

Should the need arise as the fight progresses, he may switch in Sea for a while to simply act as a tank (what with Aqua Ring, Safeguard, Protect, and Rest, plus maybe an initial Toxic just to make that wall hurt) to buy time to heal Dusk back up. Similarly, if he feels he needs to slow his opponent down a bit, River might get sent out to use Thunder Wave, and possibly fire off a Hyper Beam before being switched back out. And if Will's team use moves like Torment or Disable, Sion will simply rotate through Dusk's other array of super-effective moves (Dark Pulse, Shadow Claw, Thunderbolt) as needed.

Koga

Having heard that Koga specializes in poison types, Sion will begin with Valiant. He'll probably start off with a Swords Dance or two, then smack that pesky poison/dark Skuntank with Earthquake. Once that's taken care of, it'll be time for Valiant to go to town with Psycho Cut. Sion will also make use of Stored Power (boosted from aforementioned Swords Dance) and Psychic should Torment or Disable or the like come into play. Sion might switch out to Dusk or Jina for Koga's Crobat, using Thunderbolt or ice attacks against the flying type, but otherwise he'll have Valiant power through as much as possible, again using healing items as much as necessary and Just's poison immunity as a backup. Similar to the first fight, he has nothing against switching in another pokémon simply to take hits while he heals up his main fighter for another go; again Sea would be his default choice, although River might get sent out to use the likes of Ice Beam or Stone Edge against part bug or flying types.

Bruno

Again this is very much Valiant's fight. Starting off with Swords Dance, then using primarily Psycho Cut, or Brick Break when it comes to the Lucario. Most of his tactics for this will be similar to the fight with Koga, really, the main difference being that Dusk probably won't participate in this one at all unless it's to absorb a hit or set up Perish Song, both of which would be worst-case scenarios. Should Valiant get knocked out, River is his backup with Wing Attack, Hurricane, and Fly. Sion did bring lots of potions and revives though, so he has no qualms about using those freely to simply keep Valiant up for the whole gauntlet.

Karen

Knowing Karen has a reputation for using dark types, Sion will be starting off this match with Just. Again, Swords Dance to start off with, then Just's fighting-type attacks ought to make fairly short work of the Weavile and Absol, and Just also has Thunder Punch and Ice Punch to use against Honchkrow just to keep the momentum going. When Houndoom and Spiritomb show up he'll probably switch out for another, however, most likely Sea against the Houndoom and either Dusk or River (or both in succession) against the Spiritomb. Dusk for the Swords Dance and STAB-boosted Night Slash attacks hoping for crits, River for Thunder Wave, followed by Dragon Dance and Outrage. Should those two fall Sion might send out Valiant to try to get off a Dazzling Gleam before going down. If all else fails, Dusk can Perish Song the Spiritomb if that ends up being Karen's last pokémon, though Sion will leave that as a last resort.

Lance

Sion will start off with Jina for some nice strong ice attacks, but he's expecting shenanigans given the lineup of "dragons" that Clair has, so he'll be ready to switch Jina out at a moment's notice. Hail and Blizzard are the order of the day, with perhaps an Ice Beam for good measure, letting Jina give a good showing against the dragon/flying and dragon/ground types. Sea is an obvious choice against the Charizard when that gets switched in, and both Dusk and Just have electric attacks to use against Gyarados, plus River's Stone Edge. Then it's back to Jina with more Hail, more Blizzard, and more hoping to freeze those dragons solid. River might also see some action if needed, again with the Thunder Wave and Dragon Dance before using some hard-hitting attacks combo, especially if Lance's team is already fairly thinned out. Of course, should all this fail, Sion can still send out Valiant with Dazzling Gleam, but he really wants to give Jina a chance to shine if at all possible. As with all his prior battles, Sion will use potions and revives if needed.

Character: Ryner Lute | [personal profile] tearsofademon
Badge/Gym Leader: The Elite Four! \o/
Elite/Regular: ...The Elite Four!! \o/
Team: his Route page is still here, with new TMs added, and most of it needs updating but the relevant ones are good. Specifically, his team is as follows:

:: Rose the Clefairy
Ryner's starter, and the one who's actually interested in the title of Champion, if we're being honest here; she never goes in the PC, ever. She's naturally strong against Dark and Dragon types, with an immunity to the latter, and has a wide variety of elemental TM moves at her disposal, which she's picked up over the years because Ryner is a magic nerd who lives vicariously through his Clefairy sometimes. Her ability, Magic Guard, means she takes no indirect damage, meaning that she actually tries to get hit with Toxic.

:: Jehra the Absol
Ryner's first egg Pokemon, and one of the three who don't go in the PC ever. He's strong against Psychic types, with an immunity to them even, and has a high Attack stat with various types of slashes that have high critical hit ratios. His ability, Justified (hidden ability received in the Nightmare Castle event of 2013), means that when struck by a Dark-type move, which he resists, his Attack goes even higher.

:: Glen the Joltik
Glen hatched from an egg Ryner received mysteriously for Valentine's Day, and ever since has been the third Pokemon of Ryner's who doesn't go in the PC ever. Despite his low stats, being unevolved and all, he's naturally strong against Psychic and Dark, and his Electric typing helps with some secondary typings. His ability, Unnerve, makes it that opponents can't eat berries while he's Ryner's active Pokemon. You know. In case there are any berries here.

:: Lori the Xatu
The daughter of the first Pokemon (besides Rose) who joined him on his journey, Lori's Psychic/Flying typing gives her useful strengths against both Poison and Fighting. Her ability, Early Bird, means that if she's hit with sleep, she'll wake up in half the time. Not super useful here, but that's neither here nor there.

:: Fyn the Gyarados
The Gyarados who was named after him (thanks Ferris) isn't really a fighter, but Fyn is, so she's coming along, mostly for her strong Attack stat, and also because she can learn Earthquake, which, having recently fought Janine, Ryner has come to realize is probably vital if this team is going to have an easier time against Koga. Also she has the occasional secondary type advantage, so there's that. Her ability, Intimidate, cuts the Attack stat of whichever foe she switches into. Helpful for someone like Bruno or Karen, am I right?

:: Happy the Audino
A Pokemon he inherited from an old friend from years ago. (Who also happens to have been Actually A Kitten. He wonders what she'd think if she knew about this.) You won't see her mentioned much below, but just in general, Happy is attempting to be something of a tank/staller, when Ryner needs a minute to give everybody else items. Dual Screens, Toxic (except for Koga, for whom Thunder Wave exists), Simple Beam if the foe’s ability is being annoying, Substitute and Double Team to avoid damage, Rest if she needs to break (with a Chesto Berry for a quick wake), and so that she’s not complete Taunt-bait, she’s got a few special moves of assorted varieties, which she’ll use if she feels she’s in a comfortable position. (Her ability, Healer, is only really useful in double battles, which this is not, but that's not really important.)

Battle Details:

Timing Notes
This fight is happening the day after Sion's, or if that's not possible, as soon as possible after that. If Sion's is still set for the 16th as described in his post right above mine, that means this fight will occur on December 17th.

General Notes
Ryner is deliberately going second, mostly because Sion's the one who cares more about being first. As a consequence of that, even if he's not allowed to watch the actual fights, Sion will undoubtedly be telling him about the fights afterwards, and about any surprises. That said, though, Ryner picked this team before they left, so that everyone who was coming would have time to psyche themselves up and get in some last-minute sparring practice and strategy deliberation and such.

As usual, Ryner doesn't really direct his Pokemon much, more or less giving them free reign to use whatever strategy they want. He only really suggests that they try to avoid unnecessary overkill, but that they strike fast and powerful enough to make things quick. The whole Avoiding Super Effective Moves clause he had in the early gyms, though? That's gone. These are the top trainers in the land. If they can't handle this, why are they even here?

Item Notes
Glen is equipped with an Eviolite that Ryner kept from the Elite Four Mansion during Hoennween. (Eviolites were listed as available during the plot here, and the mods gave permission for each participant to keep one item here.) It is sewn into the tiny top hat he always wears. As a tinyspider, a boost to his defenses can only help.

Rose will have a Sitrus berry equipped during the fight with Will, but assuming that the team pulls through and defeats him, and assuming that prizes for defeating an individual person are received directly after defeating them instead of all being lumped together at the end, Rose will be taking the Life Orb that's a prize from Will and equipping that immediately afterwards, attaching it to the rose earclip she always wears. Magic Guard removes the Life Orb's recoil, making it a flat boost to all of her attacks. :)

As for the rest, Ryner has come armed with an ample supply of Sitrus Berries, as well as Chesto Berries for Happy specifically, so she can get in a free Rest once per battle. A free 25% heal is nothing to sneeze at, and as Sion mentioned, there's not much else readily available. (Though, assuming the same thing as above with prizes, after Koga, the Expert Belt will be passed around depending on who it's expected to work best for, unless that's Rose of course.)

Ryner has also come prepared with a large supply of Hyper Potions and Revives (and Full Heals, too, though those aren't as vital), which he intends to use as needed. And he's making sure that everyone is fully refreshed and healed between battles.

Will
Ryner will send out Jehra first, because if nothing else, Dark is immune to Psychic and super effective against it. The only opponent that doesn’t hold true for is the Gardevoir, since Steel was nerfed during the Great Type Retcon.

...And this strategy is going to be largely the same as Sion’s, honestly. Sweep with a combination of Swords Dance and Night Slash, switching out in favor of Glen’s newly acquired Poison Jab for Gardevoir (unless Jehra indicates that he’s confident he can handle things quickly, in which case guess why he was taught Shadow Claw), and liberal use of Hyper Potions and Revives as needed. If Jehra feels as though he’s taken too much damage to last long enough for a potion to make much difference, he’ll use Perish Song before he faints, if only to help out whoever’s next in line.

As might be obvious from above, Glen is on backup here, since Bug is another weakness for most Psychic types. His defenses are boosted by the Eviolite sitting in his tiny top hat, so he’s not quite as squishy a tinyspider as he usually is, though he’ll still use Thunder Wave to try and slow down his opponent, as well as his small size to try and dodge as many attacks as he can. Fyn is also on standby, if only to provide a high-attack Crunch or two (Psychic types tend to lean toward Special, so Intimidate won't be quite as useful here as it could be). And Lori’s been taught Shadow Ball, and resists Psychic, so there’s that in a pinch.

If in general the foe’s special attack is noticed to be too powerful, Rose will pop in and put up a Light Screen, and maybe fire off one of her assorted elemental moves depending on who the current opponent is. Thunderbolt can take both Slowbro and Xatu, while Flamethrower is good for Jynx.

Koga
Having seen Sion’s battle, Skuntank coming out first doesn’t surprise him. ...Then again, it wouldn’t have anyway. Why not put one of the immunities up first, right? Make the opponent guess. But Ryner will begin the battle with Fyn, whose strategy is “Earthquake everybody except the Crobat to try to nuke them down quickly”. After the Skuntank is down, Fyn will continue with that strategy as long as possible, with Lori coming in at the very least for Crobat, and possibly for more of them, because the other strategy is “Psychic everybody except the Skuntank to try to nuke them down quickly”. Fyn is just working with her own raw Attack stat, but Lori might Calm Mind once or twice if she can dodge enough poison.

Jehra is on standby if he’s needed, with Swords Dance + Psycho Cut (you know, assuming the Skuntank goes down quickly). Glen is mostly going to sit this one out, mostly because he doesn’t have that much to contribute here, though he might pop in to Thunder Wave something if it’s being a pill.

Rose is, obviously, weak to Poison, but she might insist on switching in briefly anyway, especially if she can predict a Toxic going out. Magic Guard + Toxic = happy Clefairy because she takes no damage and isn’t going to be afflicted by something more annoying, like Sleep or Paralysis. She’ll mostly be interested in Dual Screening, though if Venomoth is out she might toss out a Flamethrower.

(Note: If Rose does end up Poisoned but not Fainted by the end of this battle, she's going to insist that Ryner not heal her Poison status. He'll lineface at her because past Koga the other types aren't really known for status... but he'll sigh and comply.)

Bruno
Side note. Do you know how many Fighting types have access to Stone Edge? Pretty much Bruno’s entire team does. orz And considering Fighting's weakness to Flying, it can be pretty much assumed that if Stone Edge is available, it will be used. Or at least, that's the thought from Ryner's team's side.

Lori will start this, immediately going for maxing out Double Team. Psychic/Flying is wonderful against a Fighting trainer who has so much mono type… if, of course, she doesn’t get hit by Stone Edge. It already has a mere 80% accuracy, but she wants to take no chances. Then, once she’s comfortably behind as much evasion as possible (aided by Ryner making liberal use of potions as she makes her way up), she’ll Calm Mind as high as she can, Tail Wind to try and make sure she outspeeds things, and then Psychic spam.

(Smogon would hate this. I don’t care. And Ryner’s the kind of guy who goes for groin shots in order to incapacitate quickly, so it’s not like he sees anything dishonorable, or would care if he did.)

The goal, then, is to Psychic spam at +6 SpAtk and +6 Evasion until the cows come home. Between them, the only moves they know that always hit are Aura Sphere, Vital Throw, and Aerial Ace, none of which are particularly effective to a Xatu (especially those first two). Lucario won’t take super effective damage, but at +6 and Special Defense being its lowest stat, that’s not going to matter all that much. Hitmonlee might use Mind Reader, and Machamp has the chance of having No Guard, either of which might potentially put a cork in things especially if they switch in before she’s done setting up (can the Elite Four switch?), but given that her base speed outspeeds both of them, especially Machamp, and Hitmonlee needs a turn of setup, that won’t matter much.

Although. If Machamp switches in while she’s setting up, she’ll pause setting up to try and take it out as fast as possible. And if she can’t, the others can make use of No Guard-effected Thunder if they don’t have a super effective move until it’s down, at which point it’s time to stall while Lori recovers, then try again.

If this evasion strategy fails (...and let’s face it, the RNG could hate psychic birds that day), Rose will be waiting in the wings for everybody except Lucario to try and clean up with Moonblast until Ryner can get Lori back up. Glen can also try and stall with Thunder Wave and by using his small size to avoid as many attacks as he can, though his bug attacks won’t do much. Fyn is also there with her high Attack stat and stab Waterfall, as well as Intimidate to cripple the Fighting-types’ high attack stats, though nothing super effective.

Jehra will sit this one out if possible, though if everyone else is injured and there’s only a little cleanup to do, he can try for a quick Psycho Cut. (He won’t bother with Swords Dance here; he knows his weaknesses.)

Karen
Rose will be up first, because let’s face it, this is largely Rose’s fight. Weavile’s Metal Claw might hurt, but that’s why she’s starting with a Reflect - she spars with Jehra more or less daily, Jiji often, and Sion’s Spiritomb Lucile on occasion, so she knows how Dark types work (especially Absols), and she knows that they tend toward the Attack stat, so doubling her effective defense can only help her cause. She’ll also keep Lucky Chant up, because a lot of what Jehra knows has a high crit ratio.

After that, it’s pretty much Moonblast spam, refreshing her buffs, and dodging as many attacks as she can. She knows Minimize, so she might see what Lori did with Bruno and decide that’s a good idea, but she won’t max it out or anything. Once or twice is good enough. Since she spars so often with half of the species involved, she knows how they tend to move, and how to generally stay out of the way, and will be putting that knowledge to good use as she spams. The main exception to Moonblast Spam is Houndoom, who she’ll just target with Water Pulse instead. If anybody tries to Torment her, well, that’s what her myriad of Assorted Elemental TMs is for, which she’ll pick the most effective one from (or just default to Thunderbolt, that’s always a good option).

Should Rose fall before she can burn everyone down, Glen will come in for the pure Dark types and Weavile to use his strongest Bug-type moves, while in general continuing to use his tiny size to as much advantage as he can in order to dodge things. Fyn is also on standby to switch in with Intimidate and use her strongest attacks, while Jehra, if stalling is needed, can come in with Slash or Aerial Ace. After all, Dark resists Dark, and his ability means he gains attack with each Dark move he’s hit by.

Lori will probably sit this one out if she can, though if she’s somehow forcibly dragged out, she’ll just Fly spam to get in as much invulnerability as she can while the others recover.

Lance
This one is also largely Rose’s fight, given her immunity to Dragon, though they were going in expecting that “Dragon” would be a loose definition at best even before Sion’s attempt at the Elite Four, so. Rose will start, and she’ll immediately start with Dual Screens, because might as well halve the damage coming in, even if it doesn’t get Dragon STAB. From there, for the actual Dragons in the party, it’s time for Ice Beam spam.

Because all of the actual Dragons in Lance’s party? Yeah, they’re 4x weak to Ice. (I mean, she’s also got Moonblast and Hidden Power Dragon. It’s not like she doesn’t have the toolbox to take out Dragons that are neutral to Ice. But that 4x weakness is just too much to pass up. Plus the miniscule Freeze chance. You never know.) And, well. Rose isn’t the only one with Ice-type moves, even if she eventually goes down to something. Fyn has Ice Fang, and though it’s not exactly optimal because he’s more of a physical attacker, Jehra has Hidden Power Ice.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Taking out the actual Dragon-types in the party with a 4x weakness is great and all, but there’s still Gyarados and Charizard to contend with. ...Rose doesn’t really care, though, because she’s got all of the elemental TMs she’s learned over the years, and she’s not afraid to use them. Specifically, Gyarados has a 4x weakness to Thunderbolt, and Rose does spar with Fyn pretty often too, so she knows how Gyarados fight. Charizard doesn’t have a 4x weakness that Rose can easily exploit, meanwhile, but she does know Water Pulse, and Charizard is also weak to Thunderbolt.

Also. You know. Charizard can be taken out easily with a 2x STAB Waterfall from Fyn. And if Rose can’t take out the Gyarados, a 4x STAB Thunderbolt from Glen will certainly finish it off.

Jehra and Lori are mostly support for this fight. If they’re needed to stall for time for Rose to recover a bit, they’ll just use their best STAB moves to try and clean up what they can. But ultimately, this is Rose’s fight, and Ryner will be trying to make sure that Rose stays healed and healthy so that she can, if nothing else, deal the finishing blow.

Team: John's crack team of champs is right here
Battle Details: John has a level 100 bird/dragon type up against a bunch of level 50-or-so fighting types which should probably ensure he's got this badge in the bag to begin with. He's got Gozer as a backup, since she can't be hit by fighting types. He's also going to send out Poe against that Poliwrath so that Poe can get some experience in, using a mix of Thunder Wave + Confuse Ray to slow it down before throwing out a series of Thunder Punches. Should RNG not be on his side there, though, Blue will come right back out to finish the job.

Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Jean's lords and ladies
Battle Details: Jean’s battle will likely end up going very down the wire. Maybe he got a little over-confident from being able to beat Falkner so easily he totally got over-confident.

Without any pokemon with a type advantage, Jean is just going to depend on sheer strength and bullheadedness to get through this battle. First up will be Blitz as his strongest pokemon. He’s hoping to clear away as many pokemon of Bugsy as possible, using Blitz’s most damaging attacks. When it comes down to his final bit of HP, Blitz will end up using Self-Destruct, hoping to take Bugsy’s pokemon down with him. Once Blitz is out for the count, it will be Lila’s turn, sticking the the same strategy of just using physical attacks (like her Hyper Fang) to wear down Bugsy’s pokemon. When Lila goes down, Jean will switch to Blume. (definitely feeling the heat at this point). She is too low level and a grass type to boot, so she likely won’t last long, but he hopes she’ll be able to deal some good status effects.

At which point it’s time to break out the big guns.

No, it’s not. It’s time to throw out Fisch the Magikarp in the biggest Hail Mary SUDDENLY GYARADOS pass ever attempted. Fortunately for Jean, after weeks of getting zapped by Blitz, Fisch is finally ready to evolve. Which will hopefully be just enough to scoot Jean into a win.

Character: Walter Sullivan | [personal profile] 11121_assumption
Badge/Gym Leader: Plain Badge / Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Team Stats. His current party is listed in the navigation post, with links.
Battle Details: Walter will lead up with his ghost Pokemon, Doll the Banette. While her Ghost type attacks won't be effective, she has a type immunity in return and her Dark type attacks (Knock Off and Sucker Punch) will be super effective on Girafarig. Walter will be making use of her Will o Wisp and, should it seem likely she's not going to be able to keep fighting, Walter will have her use Curse in an effort to drain the foe's health, even if Doll won't survive using it. If for some reason Doll faints before the Girafarig, he'll switch in Joseph to finish it off with his speed and dark type attacks.

Against the Clefable, Walter intends to use nothing but brute strength to KO it as he doesn't have any Pokemon with a type advantage. Chaos the Luxray will take the baton here. Using Swagger to confuse it, Charge to raise Chaos' defenses (and boost her electrical attacks) and Thunder Fang and Discharge to try and knock her down. Should Chaos faint, Assumption the Cubone will come out with a Retaliate to try and put it down.

Against the Miltank, Walter will attempt to use brute force again. If Chaos is still up, he'll have her continue to attack until she faints, hoping to inflict paralysis and flinching through her attacks. After her, he will send in Assumption with a strong Retaliate and his other attacks.

And half his Pokemon are monstrously over-leveled while the others are actually the right sort of level for this. That might help.

Battle Details: The battle is mainly going to be fought by Maika, Judd, and Buru due to their high levels - Yuto and Rase will be sidelined at all costs due to Yuto's refusal to listen for more than a minute and Rase's low level and weakness to Flying. Judd is going to be the heavy hitter for Falkner's birds, being an Electric type, with Buru for backup with Thunder/Ice Fang and Play Rough for his Honchcrow. Maika is the last resort big guns if both of them end up fainting, but with the level advantage, it's not likely Thida will have to use her.

Character: Walter Sullivan | [personal profile] 11121_assumption
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge / Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Darkness, Psyche, Chaos, Assumption, Doll and Reed
Battle Details: Despite having two strong Flying type Pokemon, Walter actually lacks strong flying attacks on them. Regardless, Darkness and Psyche are going to be leading the assault. with Darkness taking the lead to take on Pinsir. He'll focus on using Wing Attack and Night Slash to take it out, being unaware of it's fighting moves. But given Darkness' high level, he should be able to knock out Pinsir without getting knock out first.

Against Heracross, Walter will switch to Psyche, so Darkness' Dark typing can't be used against him (again). It also means Psyche can outright avoid it's fighting type attacks, while resisting it's Bug moves. She'll boost her defenses with Stockpile before attacking with her ghost type attacks - her only Flying type move is Gust, and she can do more damage with her other attacks (notably Shadow Ball). If Psyche should fall, he'll swap in Chaos for her raw strength and use Electric moves to bring it down.

Scizor will be the biggest problem as Walter doesn't have any fire type Pokemon for an easy advantage. Depending on Psyche's state after facing Heracross will affect Walter's tactics. If she's still in good health, Walter will have her Stockpile to build up her defences as much as possible - then Baton Pass to Darkness. With the boosted defenses (and possibly a super potion to top up his health), Walter will then have Darkness simply use his most powerful attacks, Night Slash and Foul Play, to take out Scizor. Although he won't be above resorting to Sucker Punch if it looks like Scizor will use priority attacks to get Darkness knocked out first. If Darkness faints, he'll switch to Chaos and continue using brute force until it falls.

If Psyche has been knocked out by Heracross, he'll continue using Chaos and switch in Darkness if she faints. Assumption and Doll are the follow-up battlers, again relying on their strong STAB attacks. Reed is here just to watch, as he loses his Flying type resistance with his Grass dual typing and is too low level for this.

Again, Walter is relying on the high levels of his Pokemon for this battle as he lacks a true typing advantage, due to his Flying Pokemon lacking strong Flying type attacks.

Battle Details: Is this battle even remotely fair?? John has a level 100 flying type Pokemon AND a level 100 rock type Pokemon, plus a team of other very powerful mons. Most likely, Blue's going to sweep the gym, but if something unlucky happens, then Little Foot is there as backup.

Character: John Egbert | [personal profile] harlequinhater
Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney/Plain Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Same guys as last time
Battle Details: Again, John is hugely overleveled for this, though this time he lacks a clear type advantage. Poe will lead the charge using Signal Beam for her Girafarig, followed by Little Foot for Clefable. Finally Casey will come out for the Miltank, since she is resistant to Rollout and Attract.

Team: Maika the Malamar (lv 100), Judd the Luxray (lv 95), Buru the Granbull (lv 90), Rase the Paras (lv 23), and Banba the Noibat (lv 39).
Battle Details: Most of Thida's team is not too great for dealing with Bug types, considering her only Fire Type is far too disobedient for her to take out of the PC, so she'll work with the team she has. Bugsy's Pinsir will be dealt with by Banba and her Flying type attacks, and since they're not too too far in level she'll be relying mostly on the type advantage. Buru will go up against the Heracross, and should be fine with its level being significantly higher and with Fire Fang. As for Scizor, Thida will use Maika against it, and if it goes down due to the unfavorable type-matchup despite the level disparity, she'll send Judd in afterwards, who'd be on a bit more level playing field for type.

Battle Details: Ash is eager and ready to go! He's got some potions and has no idea that he's out-leveled...welp.

First up will be his buddy, Danny! Thanks to evolving into a Lucario he isn't weak to Flying...but Ash doesn't know type match-ups. He'll try using Force Palm, before realising his mistake and trying to use Swords Dance, followed by his Quick Attack and other normal moves. He'll also trying using a Potion to heal him when he gets knocked down low.

After Danny comes his second strongest Pokemon; Cú, his Rockruff. He'll start off with a Howl this time before using Rock Throw - and upon realising how well this works, will attempt to keep using it. Cú is the other Pokemon Ash will opt to heal in this battle.

If/when Cú faints, Ash will follow up with Mufusa, again using Work Up to try and boost her attack (and her defense) before using Headbutt and Ember to try and defeat the Birds. After Mufusa comes Carmilla and Hitchcock; depending on how the battle has progressed, he'll either be still amped or becoming nervous. With Carmilla he'll have her Screech before attacking, while he'll use Double Team on Hitchcock before he attacks to try and give him a chance to dodge incoming attacks.

If it comes down to Étain, he'll have lost his confidence and be reluctant to send a butterfly out against a bunch of birds, especially when his other Pokemon have already fainted. If Falkner has a Pokemon in the back then he'll forfeit the match, rather than endanger her in a fruitless battle. But if he's down to the last of the Leader's Pokemon, he'll still try and fight! He'll have her use Poison Powder to try and whittle down the last Pokemon, alternating between Protect and Harden so she can withstand what attacks are used.

Battle Details: Prompto will be leading with not IE.exe the Luxio, but with Freckles. This is both to try for an Intimidate, alongside Ice Fang. (Freckles is blind, however, and tends to thrash around a lot during battle.)
He will be using the newly-evolved Lycanroc, Sol, next, with a combination of Rock Throw and Accelerock, alternating.
Next would be Magus the Togepi, who he'll try and get to use Charm + Thunder Wave to weaken whatever Pokemon Magus fights - before switching to Staravia for the Wing Attack... and waiting for them to get weakened. And then Endeavor + Quick Attack. Yes, Prompto would totally use F.E.A.R.
Terry is simply there because she's strong, and perhaps Featherdance can also weaken.

If all of them fail, however, there's IE.exe the Luxio - who Prompto has been training hardcore since the swarm and getting her. (Even if he won't be evolving her.) Spam Thunder Fang to win?

Battle Details: Unlike the last couple of gym leaders she's challenged, this time, Heather is at a distinct type advantage. She's coming with Fire, and she's coming with lots of it.

Carousel (Rapidash), Cujo (Growlithe), Huan (Houndoom), Vickie (another Houndoom), Claudy (Noctowl), Hurricane (Pidgeot) are the six she's bringing.

Carousel leads the charge with Megahorn to take down Erika's Shiftry-- and to be honest, after that, Heather's not too picky about what happens. Cujo is a goofy goober of a Growlithe, but he's still level 100 and has a history of being underestimated right before playfully Fire Blasting the other Pokemon in the face. Huan is a big burly sack of boisterous, aggressive Houndoom with all the firepower you'd expect. Vickie is at a much lower level and she'd rather not send him out if she can help it-- but four Fire-types are better than three.

As for the birds, both know Heat Wave in addition to having all the advantages of their natural Flying-type. Claudy even knows a few Psychic moves to take care of the pesky Grass/Poisons.

For the most part, Manaka will focus on pure offense; if Whitney's Pokémon give her any trouble in spite of the level difference, she'll switch to status effects and stat-boosting to heighten her advantage.
