Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Jolyne Cujoh | [personal profile] strings_theory
Badge/Gym Leader: Misty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Here, using Shi and Isla
Battle Details: Well, here we go again! Though this time Jolyne's trying things a little differently. Which means that she'll lead with Isla who will attempt to get off a leech seed on whatever Misty's lead is. Quickly afterward she's switching her out with Shi who will begin the tactic of attract if Misty's Pokemon is female (if not, disregard this line), followed by using calm mind in conjunction with Shi's hidden ability, Simple, to quickly get to max special attack and special defense as it's probably going to be super necessary.

Against golduck Shi will be using psychic to beat up on the poor duck, against Lapras he'll do much the same, and then starmie is where he'll switch to air cutter since psychic won't do much against another psychic type and air cutter is still considered a special move (for what reason, I don't know). Boosting up Shi's special defense is also a necessity for the potential of any ice moves with these Pokemon and Jolyne's taking no chances with it.

If Shi's HP starts to get low he'll also use endeavor to bring the opponent down to his level and hopefully have the speed and bulk to deal with the problem.

Character: Geddoe | [personal profile] lightningbearer
Badge/Gym Leader: Morty
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Here, levels updated as of the time of challenge (a biiit backdated, sorry!)
Battle Details: Geddoe's not here for fancy strategy, he's here for a quick win and easy prize money. Which means he's primarily relying on Missy the thievul and her dark-type attacks to take down those ghosts as quickly as possible. Joker will also be on hand because, while psychic is weak to ghost, it's also strong against poison. And of course Zipper and/or Bolt might get a chance to come out to play if they really insist on it, using thunder wave to cripple an opponent before going in for the heaviest attacks they've got.

Character: Seto Kaiba | [personal profile] blue_ice
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina for the Marsh Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Mokie the Pangoro(65), Reaper the Dragapult(65), and Onimaru the Aegislash(75), with backups Kingyoku the H. Goodra (100) and Selene the Sylveon (87)
Battle Details:

vs. Espeon
Reaper is up first. He first uses Infestation to prevent escape and start chip damage, then hits with Phantom Force. Using status moves and Hex unfortunately isn't an option with Espeon's ability, so he'll try to hit with heavy damage. When he's nearly won, he'll U-Turn into Selene the Sylveon to let her set up Light Screen for the next battle.

vs. Mr. Mime
Onimaru the Aegislash is Kaiba's best counter against a Mr. Mime. He really wishes he had Taunt to stop the Mime's stat-swapping shenanigans, but his only Taunt user has a 4x weakness to Fairy, so. With the help of Selene's Light Screen, he starts hitting hard with Shadow Ball and Iron Head, attempting some reading by using King's Shield if he sees Mr. Mime setting up.

vs. Alakazam
Mokie is up last, chosen for his immunity to Psychic attacks. His plan is to strike hard with Crunch and Night Slash, and hope that Sabrina didn't give the Alakazam any coverage moves. If she did, he'll use Parting Shot to pivot into Kingyoku and let the Goodra hit with an Acid Spray->Dragon Pulse combo.

Character: Jolyne Cujoh | [personal profile] strings_theory
Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Here using Shi the swoobat as always
Battle Details: This is probably going to be the most obnoxious gym for her. But she's got an ace up her sleeve and that is shoving a weakness policy on Shi for any potential ghost/dark move that might be on the rest of these nerds. However, given how this gym is, Shi will start out using imprison to cut off any moves that might be similar between the swoobat and the other Pokemon and this will be a constant with all three of Sabrina's Pokemon since she's pretty sure that psychics will all have stat raising nonsense, confusion, psychic, and future sight and she's keen on taking a lot of the bite off of these Pokemon (rest in piss, Alakazam in particular).

After that attract will be used on any Pokemon that are the opposite gender of Shi (which Jolyne hopes, uh, is all three of them but you know). Followed by the usual calm mind shenanigans coupled with simple to get to max special attack and special defense before just going in with a mixture of psychic, confusion (if attract did not work for that sweet, sweet confusion), and air slash (specifically due to this ALSO being a special attack and knowing full well this should be neutral damage at worst). Though if any of these nerds are faster than swoobat (probably... probably alakazam if I had to guess) there will also be liberal use of assurance for that sweet, sweet double damage if attacked first.

Character: Jolyne Cujoh | [personal profile] strings_theory
Badge/Gym Leader: Surge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Still here
Battle Details: You know that whole weakness policy thing? Guess who bought a few of them at the Christmas Market, it was her. Also for this bullshit gym. While Shi has the levels advantage, knowing that electric is 2x damage is going to be important. Which is where weakness policy comes in because, let's be real, Surge will probably immediately go for the electric moves which will be absolutely fun and make it quicker to get immediately to maxed out special attack and special defense with this swoobat's combo of simple with calm mind. Again. Because it works.

With that out of the way, swoobat is going to be an absolute menace and start immediately putting the smack down on these poor Pokemon with no mercy psychics and assurance if these doofuses are faster than him somehow. By some weird way, if Shi happens to go down, the back up with 10000% be Isla since she won't take diddly from electric attacks and proceed to just lay the smackdown with earthquakes and mega drain, but hopefully it won't come down to this.
orangesmith: (amusement)

[personal profile] orangesmith 2023-01-23 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Narancia Ghirga | [personal profile] orangesmith
Badge/Gym Leader: Blaine | Volcano Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Miele, Patata, Lattuga, and Volare
Battle Details: It's Narancia's first gym challenge since before the Outworlder Tournament, and he's ready to show off what he learned from that tournament and his loss during it! He even dressed up for the gym in this jacket and goggle set!

VS Magcargo:

Narancia's leading with Patata, and immediately opens with Stealth Rock just to cause trouble for any switch attempts Blaine might make. This is immediately followed up by High Horsepower, aiming directly for that x4 weakness to Ground in order to get the Magcargo out of the way.

Narancia did account for the chance of Burn by giving Patata (and Lattuga) a Rawst Berry to hold, but unfortunately he didn't account for the risk of the Magcargo using Earth Power. If Earth Power (or Yawn) is used, he'll immediately switch out to Lattuga and have him use Rock Slide. If the Magcargo starts getting too many stat ups through stuff like Shell Smash, Harden, and Amnesia, then Narancia will have Lattuga use Roar to force a switch or, if Patata is still out, use Dig in hopes of avoiding an attack on the underground turn.

VS Magmortar

Now that the Fire/Rock Type is out of the way, Narancia is free to have either Patata or Lattuga (depending on who's out) use Sandstorm for even more chip damage on top of the Stealth Rock damage! From there he'll immediately go to Lattuga if he isn't already out and have the Aerodactyl use Supersonic once before, whether or not the Supersonic hit, going into Rock Slide with the occasional reuse of Sandstorm if it wears off or the Magmortar uses Sunny Day.

If Lattuga starts getting too low health or is hit with Confuse Ray, then he'll switch to Miele and finish up with High Horsepower. If Miele gets burned on contact with the Magmortar via Flame Body, well, the Ursaluna has Guts so that's actually a good thing.

VS Rapidash

At this point Narancia is going to switch out to Miele if he isn't already out and just use Headlong Rush followed by High Horsepower to try and finish up. If Miele gets burned, again, Guts turns that into a good thing via an attack boost.

If Patata, Lattuga, and Miele all get too low health for some reason, then he has Volare on backup with Dark Pulse. Hopefully it doesn't come down to that, but the Houndoom's there just in case.

Badge/Gym Leader: Pryce for the Glacier Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Leizi the Alolan Raichu (100), Mokie the Pangoro (72), and Zephyra the Rapidash (100), with Mizuchi the Kingdra (100) in reserve

Battle Details:

vs. Dewgong

Leizi is up first. Her job's to slow with her thunder attacks---Nuzzle first to slow down and paralyze, then Reflect to shore up her physical weakness, then Thunderbolts away. If Pryce happens to put rain on the field for his Water/Ice types, he'll switch to Thunder.

vs. Lapras

Kaiba sends Mokie in against Lapras, and his first move is Taunt. He doesn't want any part of that Perish Song nonsense. He follows up with Low Sweep to lower Lapras's speed, then launches into Brick Break, hoping that's enough.

vs. Mamoswine

Finally it's Zephyra's turn. Mamoswine can end her run with ground attacks, so her goal is to burn it all down as quickly as possible..so while he wouldn't ordinarily risk it, he'll absolutely use Flare Blitz. If she doesn't get it done, Mizuchi will switch in to try to wash it away with her favorite Rain Dance -> Surf combo.

---

Badge/Gym Leader: Clair for the Rising Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Leizi the Alolan Raichu (100), Kingyoku the Hisuian Goodra (100), and Selene the Sylveon(95) as main team, with Onimaru the Aegislash (80) in reserve.
Battle Details:

vs. Gyarados

It's Leizi up first again! She uses Nuzzle first to slow down and paralyze the Gyarados, puts up Reflect to deal with those scary Dark moves, and zaps with Thunderbolt. If she falls, Onimaru is in reserve to hit with Shadow Ball.

vs. Kingdra

Selene the Sylveon is next. Kaiba has a Kingdra of his own, and he knows how scary they can be when they set up in rain. He gambles on Kingdra having Swift Swim and and uses Skill Swap to steal it, then blasts away with Moonblast. If it's going well enough for him to spend a turn, he'll have her lay down a Misty Terrain to reduce Dragon damage for the next battle.

vs. Dragonite

The big one. Kaiba's chosen Kingyoku to finish the battle, and the Goodra is slow, but he resists Flying, takes normal damage from Dragon (hopefully reduced further with Misty Terrain), and...he has an Ice Beam for Dragonite's 4x weakness. King uses Shelter to bolster his physical defense, then blasts away.

Battle Details: After two weeks in Mount Moon Misaki has decided patience can go to hell, and is immediately going after the Cascade gym. She is largely banking on the idea that her Meowscarada is a rare if not entirely new species and that, if she acts fast, Misty may not know how to handle it.

After that, well. Yes, naughty children, it's Flower Trick time. This time, she has some potions at ready if Sei gets hurt by the Lapras' ice moves, and Paimon ready on backup with Thunder Wave and Electro Ball to help neutralize the threat, but by in large she is relying on Sei to carry the fight.

Battle Details: We're back here again with the old tactics of starting with Isla who is, well, going to use leech seed on whatever Janine decides to lead with. Once that's done she's switching out to Shi who will go through the normal tactic of abusing Simple in combo with calm mind in order to max out special attack and special defense before just going to try and sweep through Janine with psychic. Short, sweet, simple, and to the point this time around.

Battle Details: So, Chuck uses fighting types. Shrike's starter is a fairy/flying type. Yeah. He'll start things off with status moves like Yawn and Charm to soften up his opponents, then let Shell go to town with the likes of Fairy Wind and Air Slash. Maybe throw in a Life Dew if needed, but it's not likely to be needed.

In the event of a freak incredibly lucky series of critical hits or something, he's got Airy on primary backup and Clang as secondary. But Shrike's learning about this thing called confidence and he feels pretty confident in Shell's capabilities!

Character: Narancia Ghirga | [personal profile] orangesmith
Badge/Gym Leader: Blue | Earth Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Volare, Tartufo, Liquirizia, Lattuga, Bacca, Broccole
Battle Details: Well, last of the Kanto badges for Narancia! Time to pull out the stops because he's gonna have to be careful against Blue's full team of six.

VS Exeggutor

Narancia's opening with Lattuga so that the Aerodactyl can lay down some Stealth Rocks for some free damage against Blue's switch ins, and then will immediately switch into Liquirizia and sets up with Nasty Plot before going into Dark Pulse until the Exeggutor goes down.

VS Machamp

Narancia's still got a Murkrow hopped up on that Nasty Plot stat boost out, so he's going to just go ahead and have Liquirizia use Air Slash until the Machamp drops. There's nothing complicated here.

VS Rhydon

Okay, now he has to switch. Narancia will send in Broccole the Eldegoss in attempt to keep up the type advantage, and decides to open with Cotton Guard for extra defense before using Leaf Storm. A perfect plan, if it weren't for the fact that Rhydon can learn Megahorn. In the event this Rhydon uses Megahorn before he's done with getting Cotton Guard set up, he's going to switch straight to Tartufo and just have the Dragapult use Shadow Ball.

At least he doesn't have to worry about Horn Drill since OHKO moves can't hit higher level Pokémon at all.

VS Gyarados

Switching again, this time to Bacca. Narancia's going to try out a neat trick he's been sitting on ever since the tournament and set up with Electric Terrain before having his Pincurchin use Rising Voltage, a move that goes from 70 to 140 power on Electric Terrain. Hopefully, this'll fry the Gyarados because this Pincurchin is the best thing he's got against it.

VS Pidgeot

He's going to try to go for the Rising Voltage strat again, but if the bird uses Whirlwind then Narancia will just try and go with whoever gets sent out. Volare and Liquirizia both have Taunt to stop any further Whirlwind attempts and Dark Pulse for damage, Lattuga has Rock Slide, Tartufo has Dragon Darts, and Broccole...is going to be kept well away from that Pidgeot due to the Eldegoss's grass type and likely damage from the earlier Rhydon fight.

VS Arcanine

Narancia's going to end this with Lattuga. He'll just go straight for Rock Slide, assuming that this'll be an easy win for his Aerodactyl.

If things get really hairy at any point, then Narancia will just send in Tartufo, set up with Dragon Dance, then start spamming Dragon Darts and Phantom Force as needed.

Badge/Gym Leader: Pryce, Glacier Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Link. Swapping out Garchomp, Altaria, and Lycanroc for Starmie, Spiritomb, and Braixen
Battle Details:
Yuzu is, at this point, not too worried about the gym. Seeing as how the majority of her gym battles at this point have had a prominent case of her Pokemon being much higher leveled due to not being able to face the elite teams yet, she intends to set up for a quick sweep of this gym. Plus, it's freaking cold in this gym, so she doesn't wanna stay long.

Yuzu will start off with Gallade and immediately lead with Swords Dance. She figures that with the level difference, she'll only need one, and attempt to sweep the entirety of Pryce's team like that Close-Combat should work to handle all three of Pryce's Pokemon, but if the worst should happen and Mozart goes down, she has the rest of her team in reserve. Starmie can resist most of whatever Pryce's team can throw at her, as well as deal with Dewgong and Lapras with Thunderbolt. Staraptor has Close-Combat, Braixen has an abundance of fire type moves. Sylveon and Spiritomb hopefully won't have to battle, but are available if necessary.

It's the final Johto Gym, and while she's still not able to challenge the Elite Teams... she still expects the strongest gym leader in Johto to put up a fight, and she's not about to be caught off-guard because she was slacking. (This challenge isn't backdated).

For Gyarados, Yuzu will actually lead with her Lycanroc, Fang. There's a risk here with how Fang has an obvious type disadvantage against a Gyarados, except Fang has a surprise for them. With Fang's superior speed, Yuzu will have him use Thunder Fang to hit Gyarados with 4x weakness. The unfortunate downside of not actually being a Dragon Type.

For Kingdra, Yuzu will try to keep Fang in and defeat Kingdra the same way with Thunder Fang. If that isn't enough, however, Yuzu will then send out her Sylveon, Aria. Because Aria has the Pixilate ability, all of her normal type moves become fairy type moves and gain a boost in power. Assuming that Fang has worn Kingdra down somewhat, Swift should be all Aria needs to finish the job thanks to it's boosted power, fairy typing, and inability to miss.

Finally, Dragonite. Yuzu will swap Sylveon out at this point, sending out Pianissimo (Togekiss) to engage in aerial battle with the Dragonite. Being a Fairy/Flying Type, Pianissimo has the advantage and an extremely varied movepool. Still, seeing as how it'll be an air battle, Yuzu will first lead with Thunder Wave to paralyze Dragonite and give Pianissimo the advantage. From there, Dazzling Gleam to victory... with the rest of her team available just in case things go south.

Battle Details: Joey would open with his Bisharp, “Legendary Knight Hermos”, who’s typing gives him resistance to flying moves. Thanks to his resistances he’d be able to better take advantage of buffs, meaning he could use Swords Dance to increase his attack without putting Hermos at risk. On the next turn he’d begin barraging Iron Head down upon Falkner’s Pokémon. With a 1-in-3 chance of making the opponent flinch it would present both significant damage (80 base power x2 against flying types, not even considering the boosts given by Swords Dance or his Adamant Nature) as well as solid chances at stealing the enemy’s chance to move. This alone should make relatively quick work of the team considering both the typing mismatch and the level gaps but, should Bisharp be brought low on health, Joey would bring him back up to full strength using Hyper Potions.

Should the worst happen and Bisharp be brought down Joey would follow with his Feraligatr, “Alligator’s Sword”. Though Feraligatr lacks the defensive typing bonus of Bisharp, that fact that he has his hidden power combined with the Life Orb held item makes for a powerful combination. Sheer Force removes the secondary effects of attacks made by the Pokémon and increases an attack’s power x1.3 and Life Orb gives the same increase but inflicts a recoil of 1/10 of the wielder’s total health after the attack concludes… except that Sheer Force absorbs that effect and just makes it a double increase with no side effects. Using Ice Punch gives a 10% chance of freezing the target, but has a base power of 75 before calculating-in the super effectiveness of the ice typing and the double 1.3 damage multipliers. Starting-off with a Dragon Dance would increase his attack even further, making it so that any hit would be a utterly devastating. In the event that his health ended up low as well, Joey would restore him using Hyper Potions.

Given the overwhelming difference in team power, the presence of multiple type-advantaged moves, and a solid arsenal of healing items these two Pokémon should be more than enough to put Falkner’s team down but, should that somehow not be enough it would just be a matter of throwing more pumped-up and powerful Pokémon at it until they were put down for good.

Battle Details: Against Bugsy’s selection of bug-type Pokemon Joey would open with his Charizard, “Red-Eyes”. Being both Fire and Flying it would have double resistances against any bug-type moves, meaning that most of the staple attacks of Bugsy’s arsenal would be largely irrelevant. Charizard, equipped with Wise Glasses and being Timid in nature, would have a significantly stronger Special Attack than his already-strong baseline and moves like Flamethrower and Hurricane would put out consistent and devastating super-effective damage. Each move has a chance to inflict additional status damage via Flamethrowers’ 1/10 chance to inflict Burn and Whirlwind’s 3/10 chance to inflict Confuse, which only adds to Charizards’ ability to stop his opponent from putting-out damage against him. Should he be whittled-down by consecutive attacks or unlucky critical hits, though, Joey stands-ready to heal him using Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

In the truly unfortunate event that Joey’s Charizard is somehow brought-down by Bugsy’s team Joey would bring-in his Ceruledge, “Gearfried”. Though only LV70 while his comrades are LV100, Gearfried is nearly as resistant to Bug-Types as Charizard was. It’s ability “Flash Fire” presents a truly interesting ability for both damage and sustainability. On top of being immune to Fire Damage, the ability increases the damage of all Fire-Type moves the wielder puts-out by 50%. provided that they’ve been on the receiving end of Fire Damage. This is where the move Flare Blitz comes in. After opening with a Swords Dance, sending in a Flare Blitz sets the stage for a killer combination. As a super-effective move with a base power of 120 and a 1/10 chance to inflict burn it certainly make for a powerful opener, but the 33% recoil that would normally act as the move’s downsides only serves to sweeten the deal. Dealing zero actual damage thanks to Flash Fire all it does is serve as a trigger to activate the ability’s bonus Fire Damage. Using the move Bitter Blade from that point on allows Ceruledge to put out consistently excellent damage due to all his buffs but also renders him largely immune to all damages outside of one-hit ko moves and statuses due to it taking 50% of the massive damage it outputs and returning it to Ceruledge as a heal. Should this tank-and-spank strategy somehow fail, though, and Ceruledge be brought low on health, Joey would again be on standby with Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

Much like in the battle against Falkner, these two powerful Pokémon should be more than enough to handle the highly-disadvantaged trio Bugsy would be bringing to bear. In the unheard of situation where both of these Pokémon might be knocked-out, though, there are 4 other very powerful Pokémon with type advantaged moves and superior strength waiting in the wings to take their place.

Team: Banshee, Wight, Hinotama, Haunt, Will-o-Wisp
Battle Details: So Ryou has decided to take on Whitney with a team of nothing but Ghost types, which should be interesting considering that Normal types are immune to Ghost attacks and vice versa.

VS Girafarig

Ryou is opening with his Yamask Haunt, who will immediately use Will-o-Wisp to try and set up a burn on the Girafarig. Then, regardless of if Will-o-Wisp connected or not, he will have Haunt use Dark Pulse to try and get the Girafarig down as soon as possible. If the Girafarig uses Odor Sleuth or Haunt gets too badly injured to continue, then Ryou will switch to Wight and have him use Power Gem, with Strength Sap available to heal up and reduce Girafarig's attack if needed.

VS Clefable
Why do you have a Clefable Whitney, that's a Fairy type-

At this point Ryou will switch to Banshee and have her lead with Taunt to lock up all of Clefable's status moves for the next few turns. Then he'll immediately switch Banshee out and switch in Hinotama, who will lead in with one use of Double Team, followed by Confuse Ray and Shadow Ball. His goal here is to try and prevent Metronome nonsense as much as he can, which, considering its random nature, is kind of terrifying.

VS Miltank

It's time for the infamous Miltank.

Ryou's switching in his Pumpkaboo Will-o-Wisp, who is going to open with Worry Seed to change Miltank's ability from what very well could have been Scrappy to Insomnia, keeping it from being able to potentially bypass Ghost's immunity to Normal attacks. He'll then do a little more setup with Confuse Ray (to reduce the odds of Rollout hitting) and Leech Seed (for some minor healing and chip damage) before going in with Seed Bomb. If Will-o-Wisp is hit with Attract or gets too badly hurt to continue, then Ryou will switch in Banshee and have her finish up with Slash.

As a side note, Ryou is going to be very taken off guard if Whitney cries because of this. He's so sorry...

Canaveral is right there and has been itching to actually get into a fight and she's not about to tell him no. Which means that she will be starting out with using swords dance in order to max out his attack as she knows he can take a number of hits being maxed out in levels at this point. Once that's done it's time to really hammer these poor fire pokemon with surf. That's it, that's the strategy, she cannot be bothered to do anything but use brute force on the weirdo in the cave.

Team: Still here and using Isla, Shi, and Flurry
Battle Details: 'Sup, she respects Blue enough to use a real team. Kind of. She will, however, start the battle off with Isla and using leech seed in order to get some passive damage as needed.

Against exeggutor it will be Shi that comes in on this doofus as she's pretty sure it can't do much of anything to him. Which means that Shi will be taking advantage of Simple in conjunction with calm mind not in order to attack the exeggutor but to be able to take any damage it might throw Shi's way as calm mind also raises special defense. With that in mind Shi will be abusing fly in order to take the overgrown palm tree out.

Against Machamp will still be Shi who with the special attack boosts from calm mind will be hitting the fighting-type hard with psychic.

Rhydon is where things will change and it will be Isla who can absolutely take a hit from this thing like it's nothing while being a defensive tank. She'll start with leech seed for passive damage and recovery before going ham with wood hammers and using giga drain as need be if Isla's HP gets low enough.

Gyarados is a tiny bit of a problem, but Flurry will be the one coming in to deal with it. Attack drops will be not a problem in the slightest for the alolan ninetales as she's a special attacker anyway. Starting from the beginning she'll use hail in order to activate her snow cloak ability to raise her evasion and also put chip damage on the gyarados. After that shell set up aurora veil to take half-damage from the gyarados before setting up with nasty plot, setting up aurora veil again as need be. Once all that is done it's time to hit this thing HARD with blizzard which ignores accuracy during a hail storm.

Pidgeot will also be handled by Flurry who will maintain her veil and hit the bird with blizzard as well. Hopefully after this battle the hail will be off the field or just about to be.

Because Arcanine is where Shi will return for his calm mind and psychic shenanigans while making sure he doesn't take much of anything form the poor doggo with calm mind's raising special defense.

Battle Details:
Whitney makes use of a lot of tanky Pokemon, drawing from Normal and Fairy typings, but Joey is well-prepared for going up against a matchup like that. If Whitney opens with either of her normal-type Pokemon Joey will begin with his Ceruledge, “Gearfried”, who is immune to both Normal and Fighting-type moves. Though Ceruledge doesn’t possess any moves that are super-effective against Normal-Types his ability, “Flash Fire”, gives him a significant boost towards fire type attacks. On top of being immune to Fire Damage, the ability increases the damage of all Fire-Type moves the wielder puts-out by 50%. provided that they’ve been on the receiving end of Fire Damage. By starting off with Swords Dance and then following it with Flare Blitz you put out a strong move with a 1/10 chance of inflicting burn while also meeting the ability’s requirements for fire damage. Though the ability itself renders Ceruledge immune to its own recoil the resultant boost still means that, by spamming Bitter Blade from that point on, he can put out consistently excellent damage due to all his buffs. This also renders him largely immune to all damages outside of one-hit ko moves and statuses due to it taking 50% of the massive damage it outputs and returning it to Ceruledge as a heal. In the event that, despite being immune to the Pokémon's two primary means of damage output, they succeed in doing significant damage Joey would be quick to apply Hyper Potions or Full Restores.

If Whitney switched out to or, instead, began with Clefable rather than either of her two Normal-Type Pokémon Joey would answer by putting-out his Wailord, “Fortress Whale”. Though neither the Clefable nor the Wailord has advantageous typing against the other the both are tanky Pokémon with large arsenals of HP. The difference comes in the level gap, as Wailord far outstrips Clefable in terms of level and also weighs-in as a far larger and heavier Pokémon as well, meaning that the Steel-Type move Heavy Slam would perfectly suit its needs as an anti-Fairy move. Though Wailord is far more optimized for using Special Attacks than Physical Attacks the base power of Heavy Slam is entirely dependent on the difference in weight between the user and the target, meaning that with the Super-Effectiveness already present in the move its well-suited to being wielded as a Clefable killer. In what would essentially boil down to an exchange or artillery between the the two tanks Joey would stand fully ready to re-up Fortress Whale’s health pool with Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

In the event that Whitney changed-out at any point during the fight Joey would match the switch with the corresponding strategy for whatever Pokémon she selected. Should, somehow, either or both Pokémon be taken out Joey would still have 4 other LV100 Pokémon with selections of moves that can do plentiful damage as well as more than enough raw firepower to put the Gym Leader’s Team down for the count.

Team: "Charizard - LV100", "Dragonite - LV100", "Bisharp - LV100" , "Ceruledge - LV76", "Feraligatr - LV100", "Wailord - LV100"
Battle Details:
Morty has a better-leveled team than the previous Gyms Joey would have gone up against, but the single-typed selection of Pokemon still presented an opposition that could be exploited and beaten without too much difficulty. Bisharp in particular holds a typing and moveset that allows for significant damage to any Ghost-Type Pokémon. Beginning with a Swords Dance, Bisharp would then focus on making use of Knock-Off to do hard-hitting damage while removing his opponent’s Held Items and a mixture of Sucker Punch and Night Slash to do yet more super-effective Dark Damage. Bisharp’s Dark typing would make it resistant to any Ghost Type moves Morty’s team puts out, while his own held item, Black Glasses, would compliment his Adamant nature to put out a powerful stream of damage. In the event that his health dropped too low Joey would, as usual, be quick to make use of Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

In the event that Bisharp was knocked-out Joey would follow with his Ceruledge. Though the Ghost-to-Ghost face-off would mean it was a race to see who could put out more super-effective moves than the other the level gap would ensure that the scales would be skewed heavily in Joey’s favor. Swords Dance would put the attack even more in his favor, and Shadow Claw and Shadow Sneak would allow Ceruledge to both hit hard and hit first. In a battle of super-effectiveness this is very important and, so, goes a long way towards making sure Ceruledge comes out on-top. In the event his health started to go south, though, Hyper Potions and Full Restores stand ready as always.

In the event that both Bisharp and Ceruledge were taken out Joey’s Feraligatr, “Alligator’s Sword”, would step-in to pick-up the slack. The combination of his Life-Orb held item and the fact that he possessed his secret ability of Sheer Power meant that any damaging move he put-out was almost double in terms of damage, all the while canceling out the Orb’s normal recoil and making it an entirely win-win situation for Joey. Dragon Dance only adds to the power that Feraligatr brings to bear, and his main spammable move of Bite not only possesses typing that makes it super-effective but has a 3/10 chance of making its target flinch. Each hit then will hold the chance to nearly one-hit KO the opposing Pokémon and all but ensure the final nail is hammered into Morty’s coffin. If the giant reptile’s health fell low Joey would pick it back up with Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

Should the three aforementioned Pokémon somehow not be up to the task of putting Morty’s team down 3 more LV100 Pokémon wait in the wings, all with moves and strategies that are fully capable of turning-up the pain on their opposition.

Battle Details: Is Jarlaxle overleveled for this gym? Yes. But in his defense, it took him some time for him to get a pokemon he was willing to pit against Whitney's Infamous Miltank and part of that involved getting his hands on some Fighting move TMs for Z'talin to use against her.

Jarlaxle and his team cut fine figures as they enter the gym, all of them impeccably adorned with gaudy jewelry and flashy cloaks made from Orbb's spidersilk. As usual, he forgoes audible instruction to his pokemon, instead commanding them using drow sign language, which he has been teaching them.

He sends Dalhar, his Zoroark, out against Girafarig, trusting in the creature's immunity to psychic attacks to keep it safe--as well as hoping the Dalahar's propensity to create illusions will confuse Girafarig. Dalhar uses Nasty Plot to raise his own power, before hitting Girafarig with Night Daze and Night Slash, repeating those moves as many times as necessary.

Orbb comes out to fight Clefable, hitting the little pink ball with Venom Drench to lower attack, special attack, and speed, before hitting it with Poison Jab and Cross Poison as many times as needed.

Finally, Jarlaxle sends out his Gallade, Z'talin, after the damn Miltank. He does a Swords Dance to raise his attack and sets himself to hitting the Miltank with Sacred Sword, Brick Break, and Low Kick as many times as needed to take the Rollout Menace down.

If Z'talin or Orbb go down, Dalhar will go in and tank the hits long enough for Jarlaxle to spray some potion on them. Z'talin can do the same for Dalhar.

Badge/Gym Leader: Surge
Elite/Regular: ELITE
Team: [ Here. ] She will be using Alisaie the Meowstic, Warburton the Flygon, Rose the Audino, Thancred the Pachirisu, Cucumber the Mamoswine and Rhalgr the Machamp.
Battle Details:
Alisaie
Her lead Pokemon, Alisaie, is fine with being hit by Intimidate by Manectric. She's holding a Light Clay, and after Fake Out, Misty Terrain (to protect herself) and putting up Screens, she's aiming to faint... on the turn she uses Gravity. She's aware that this plan is a little out there, but she knows what she's doing.
If she survives after setting up Gravity, she will Psychic/Psyshock Spam (tm). If she was switched out due to Roar, and comes back in, she'll be going for Fake Out - Gravity - Psychic or Psyshock, depending on defenses.

Warburton
Warburton has two main roles. The first is while Gravity is up - to use Earthquake on the foe, now it's more appropriate for it to hit.
If Gravity is not up, Warburton will be focused on Earthquake if a Pokemon is not floating, or Rock Slide if they are. He will Roost on low HP, and U-Turn on any Pokemon who can strike him for more then half HP. (She will also get Warburton to use Superpower and then U-Turn against Magnezone.)

Rose
Now, Minfilia loves her starter, and knows exactly what Rose is good for in this battle. Notably, she is not holding her Mega Stone - since she knows who she's countering, the Pokemon she remembers fighting in the tourney. Rose is an anti-Electrode Pokemon, with a Cheri Berry.
Yes, Rose is focused on Flamethrower on Magnezone. She knows that Magnezone is faster then her Audino, thus she will make sure that she can survive one hit - thus, no Mega Evolution. If it seems that Magnezone is going to defeat her, she will switch out to Warburton to get Regenerator to activate.

Thancred
For fighting Pachirisu, Minfilia wishes to use her own Pachirisu, Thancred. If she is forced to switch in said Thancred, this is why he's holding a Sitrus Berry. Her goal is to slow down Surges' by using Electroweb, and going for the confusion and attraction with Sweet Kiss and Attract. But her main goal is to use Thancred to get it down, steal any item with Covet after having Sitrus Berry activated, and then using Hyper Fang to show her Pachirisu is better. Against other Pokemon, Pachirisu will use Super Fang and then the Sweet Kiss - Attract if female - Electroweb if doesn't Volt Absorb - Hyper Fang.

Cucumber
Earthquake. If any of the Pokemon Cucumber fights are immune, then Hail > Blizzard. Or, of course, if it's close to the beginning of the battle... Stealth Rocks and then the strat.

Rhalgr (No Guard)
Her final Pokemon is Rhalgr the Machamp, from Hisui. Due to its' ability, there's no need for anything complex. No, with a Choice Band, Rhalgr knows Earthquake, and it will ALWAYS. HIT. Sometimes, to overpower a foe, all you need is might.

Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina
Elite/Regular: ELITE
Team: [ Here. ] She will be using Gaelicat the Alolan Persian, Mammet the Mimikyu, Rose the Audino, Moenbryda the Feraligatr, Urianger the Wyrdeer and Cucumber the Mamoswine.
Battle Details:
Gaelicat
She'll be leading with this Alolan Persian - and then will be going for Fake Out, and then Taunt. Against any Pokemon that isn't Gallade, she'll be going for Night Slash. Against Gallade, Play Rough. (She is aware that she could use special attacks and boost up, but she is also aware that physical moves are better against psychic-types, usually.) If Taunt runs out, then she'll be using it again. She hopes that Gaelicat will be the Pokemon out to face Wobbuffet - and if that's the case, then she'll be going for a Taunt > Screech combo. (To either Screech the Wobuffet into being one shot with Knock Off, or weaken whichever Pokemon comes in once said Pokemon can't attack.)

Mammet
It may be a simple Mimikyu plan, but it's the one Minfilia likes - Swords Dance until Sabrina begins to set up or Disguise is broken, and then... Phantom Force?! Mostly to see if Sabrina switches to try and counter the attack, or to get a good Ghost-type strike. If Sabrina tries to get smart and use status on Mammet, she'll find it has a Lum Berry - and that's also when the attack spam will begin. If Phantom Force runs out of PP, she'll be going for Shadow Claw (or Shadow Sneak against low-HP opponents).

Rose
Now with her Mega Stone again, Rose has a few tasks. The first is to, when she's on the field, keep Misty Terrain up and running. The second is to Mega Evolve and use Entrainment, to change any useful abilities into Healer. The third? Power-up Punch spam, to raise her own attack before going for Throat Chop. Because, again, she sees special attacks as the largest threat.

Moenbryda
Moenbryda has a simple role. She's a revenge killer - and with her Choice Scarf, this role is clear. She'll be switched in after a Pokemon faints, and then go for Crunch. Or, if she's the last Pokemon left... no, she'll still go for Crunch. It may be simple, but it works.

Urianger
Minfilia loves her Wyrdeer. Minfilia also loves abusing Hypnosis, Confuse Ray and Calm Mind - going for a Calm Mind whenever it seems that Sabrina won't be attacking due to sleep. But before any of that? Urianger will be going for Imprison, thus blocking moves like Psychic and Hypnosis being used against her. Once Urianger is close to half HP, the plan changes to Shadow Ball. Just Shadow Ball. If Urianger is trapped against Wobuffet and feels that she hasn't boosted enough, she'll use Entrainment before switching out to Moenbryda or Cucumber.

Cucumber
Like vs Surge, Cucumber will be going for Earthquake spam - this time with a Choice Band. Sometimes, things are simple. However, if Cucumber comes in and the Pokemon which is being fought has low HP, there will be the Choice Banded Ice Shard, before being switched out.

Battle Details:
Against Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan Joey would open with his Charizard, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, who’s flying typing would give it the advantage in not only offense but in defense as well. Hurricane, though, not as accurate as moves like Flamethrower, would provide it with a constant stream of super-effective damage as well as a 1/3 chance of confusing its target. The combination of Charizard’s held item, Wise Glasses, and it’s Timid nature would mean that special-damage moves like Hurricane would also be boosted beyond their normal damage threshold and spell one-to-two hit knockouts on either Hitmon without much chance for them to fire back. As has become his modus operendi, Joey would be standing-by with Hyper Potions and Full Restores in the event his fiery friends’ health dropped below a safe level to ensure he was able to remain fighting-fit.

Should attrition or an unlucky critical bring Red-Eyes down Joey would switch out to his Ceruledge, Gearfried the Iron Knight. Though Gearfried isn’t a full level-100 Pokemon like his comrades being at LV92 certainly doesn’t make him weak, and the Ghost typing he possesses means he’s granted immunity to all of the Fighting-type moves that may come his way. The regular Bitter Blade combination that Joey likes to make use of with his Ceruledge isn’t as effective thanks to his opposition’s lack of vulnerability to fire, but kicking-off with a Swords Dance and moving in to repetitions of Psycho Cut would still put the hurt on very quickly. Volley-after-volley of super-effective Ghost damage coming in should prove sufficient to finish-off whichever of the two Hitmon Pokémon were still around after Joey’s Charizard had dropped its payload on them but, should there be any struggle in taking the pair of Martial Artists out, readily-available quantities of Hyper Potions and Full Restores would be waiting in the wings to give Gearfried the edge he needed to finish the job.

Whenever Chuck puts out his Poliwhirl Joey would match it up against his Dragonite, Baby Dragon. Dragon typing doesn’t present an inherent advantage against Fighting Pokemon, but Dragonite’s knowledge of Thunder Punch means that the scales would be solidly tipped in Joey’s favor yet again. Starting-off with a Dragon Dance before beginning his pummeling, Baby Dragon would increase his damage output further still and, with the chance to paralyze inherent to the move as well, the chance that the Water Pokémon lasts more than a couple turns against him would stand between slim and nil. Poliwhirl can use some Ice Type moves however, so Joey would be very cautious of the chance that a sneaky super-effective move or two might come out of the pipeline. Just as with the previous two Pokémon the presence of recovery items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores would be constant, specifically to avoid the dangers presented by potential hits like that.

Should the three aforementioned Pokémon somehow fail to get the job done a LV100 Feraligatr, LV100 Wailord, and LV100 Bisharp all stand ready to step in and do damage. Feraligatr knows numerous hard-hitting moves and the ability to permanently hit at x1.6+ damage, Wailord has a permanently boosted x.1.5 Water Spout, and Bisharp possesses the ability to deprive opponents of held items and almost guarantee hitting-first with Sucker Punch. Battle Details:
Jasmine’s team of Steel-Type Pokémon possess weaknesses to nearly all of Joey’s Pokémon and, therefore, Joey has a good deal of selection in how he goes against her. Should Jasmine start with any Pokémon except for her Magneton Joey would put out his Wailord, Fortress Whale. Fortress Whale is by far the lowest in terms of competitive strength among his team but his typing, nature, and held item make for a powerful offensive anyways and his high health pool means that restorative items get a lot more of their money’s worth on him. Fortress Whale’s Choice Specs make any special-type move he puts out hit at x1.5 their ordinary power, but lock him into only using the first move he uses for the rest of the battle. With the blisteringly powerful Water Spout as his chosen spammable he would be putting out a super-effective and already-boosted move with a base power of 150, which would almost guarantee one-to-two hit knockouts on his vulnerable opponents. Water Spout gets weaker depending on how much health the user has remaining however, so Joey would be quite happy to put down items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores to ensure his little battleship buddy would be able to continue broadsiding the enemy effectively.

Should Fortress Whale be brought-down Joey would bring in his Charizard, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, to the table next. Red-Eyes possesses both Dragon and Fire type moves, both of which are super-effective against Steel-Type Pokémon, so his preferred method of attack would be to begin bombarding the opponent with Flamethrower. With high power, boosts from both his nature and held item, and super-effectiveness thrown into the mix each and every hit he put out would be devastating to the opposing Pokémon. Should things begin to look dicey however, as with just about every other battle, Joey would be quick to put in items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores to bring his Charizard back to being fighting-fit.

In the unfortunate event that both his predecessors were brought down the next Pokémon Joey would bring to the line would be his Dragonite, Baby Dragon. Beginning with a Dragon Dance to enhance his already strong offense both Dragon Rush and Thunder Punch sit within his moveset, allowing him to put out super-effective damage against any of Jasmine’s Pokémon without worry about their secondary typing and adding a 1 in 5 and 1 in 10 chance for flinching and paralysis. With high damage and a good chance of interrupting his opponent Joey would be able to continue bombarding the enemy with good damage output while being able to fall back on restorative items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores, as well as his own Roost, to keep Dragonite in the fight should its health get low.

Should this primary three-Pokémon lineup be unable to get the job done there is ample strength in-reserve to ensure the job gets done. Joey’s LV92 Ceruledge is capable of putting out nearly-double strength Fire Moves while restoring half the damage it inflicts to the enemy to its own health. Joey’s LV100 Feraligatr gets stacked x1.3 multipliers from his ability and held item while putting out type-advantage water moves with crushing strength. Joey’s LV100 Bisharp has the least advantage against Jasmine’s team but still possesses a significant level gap and equal typing, meaning that in a battle of supposed equals it would almost certainly come out on-top.

Battle Details: Before the battle starts, Gusion is released to film the challenge. Due to the electromagnetism present in Surge's gym, Gusion stays largely above the fight, providing aerial shots instead of anything more interesting.

Misaki goes into this battle intending to make the most use of her Nidoqueen, Valefar, with Ronove the Marowak and Vual the Sandslash as backup. Baal is on hand in case things get truly dire.

While Magneton is immune to poison, the Electabuzz and Raichu are not, so Misaki will direct Valefar to apply toxic before getting to work with Earth Power. Should Valefar be knocked out, she will swap to Vual to rely on Sand Tomb and Dig. Similarly, Ronove will be relying on Bone Rush and Headbutt. Should Baal prove necessary, it's payday and metal screech o'clock.

Team: "Charizard - LV100", "Dragonite - LV100", "Bisharp - LV100" , "Ceruledge - LV100", "Feraligatr - LV100", "Wailord - LV100"
Battle Details:
Facing Pryce's Ice-Type Pokemon is a definite change-up for Joey, doubly so with their high level, but his team still has more than enough tools at their disposal to ensure victory. Though Ice Pokemon have more than their fair share of weaknesses Joey's strategy would be predominantly based around taking advantage of the opposing team's secondary typing, with specific answers to both Water and Ground standing at-the-ready.

Should Pryce open with Mamoswine Joey would send out his Wailord, Fortress Whale. who's Water Type would make it resistant to any Ice of moves that the opposing Pokemon might put out. Taking advantage of the additional power that their held item of Choice Specs give them and the power boost that Wailord's massive health reserves give to Water Spout would mean that using it repeatedly against the vulnerable Ground-Type it would be up against would guarantee tremendous damage while all-but-ensuring next to nothing in the way of returned fire. Should attrition or lucky critical hits bring his Wailord close to knockout though, Joey would be standing-by as always with stores of Hyper Potions and Full restores.

Against Pryce's Dewgong or Lapras Joey would bring-out his Bisharp, Legendary Knight Hermos. Ice is ineffective against Steel type Pokemon while Steel is super-effective, making for quite a mismatch. Opening up with a Sword's Dance would only increase the advantage present, while still being able to tank damage they might put out during his charge-up due to resistances, and make the subsequent bombardments of Iron Head and Metal Burst bring the pain. Iron Head's outstanding offensive power would be damage enough alone but, should cheeky critical hits or powerful moves be brought-to-bear against him, Hermos would be able to make use of Metal Burst to not only return that damage a time-and-a-half over, but also have it being brought-upon his opposition with the inherent bonus damage that super-effectiveness offers. Should things start to go badly for his Bisharp and he begin falling low on health Joey would be at-the-ready with Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

In the event that either of these two were brought down Joey would have a suitable backup for facing either Pryce's Water or Ground-based Ice Pokemon in the form of his Feraligatr, Alligator's Sword. With the inherent resistance against both Ice and Water moves that his Water Typing offered him Alligator's Sword would be able to take his time in beginning the offensive, powering up with a Dragon Dance prior to starting to swing. In the event that he's up against the Mamoswine Water Tail would be a powerful and sustainable way for him to put out super-efficient damage, and his held item and Hidden Ability would make it so that he was putting out absolutely lethal power with every hit. Should he be up against either Dewgong or Lapras however, he would rely on the supreme strength that the fighting-type move Superpower grants him. Though the move has diminishing returns in combat, the utterly blistering power it puts out means that any fight Alligator's Sword uses it in is all-but-guaranteed to be a short one. As with the prior two Pokemon Joey would have restoration items pumped-and-primed for use on his Feraligatr, meaning that the brawler would be able to put out punishment for the long haul.

In the event that the primary three brawlers went down Joey still has more than enough firepower to put the team down. Charizard, Ceruledge, and Dragonite, though both facing the super-effective damage that Pryce's own Pokemon can deal him (i.e. Flying is weak to Ice and both Ground and Water are super-effective against Fire) the Fire and Electric-Type moves that they themselves put out are equally lethal to his enemies. The battle would functionally be an artillery barrage either way if it came down to these latter three and, even just on levels alone, the scales are solidly tipped in Joey's favor. Dragonite's Thunder Punch, Charizard's Flamethrower, and Ceruledge's Flare Blitz/Bitter Blade Combo would more than likely be enough to put Pryce's team down by itself so, in a capacity of mopping-up whatever was fortunate enough to come out the other side of his initial three attackers intact, it would be complete overkill.

Team: "Charizard - LV100", "Dragonite - LV100", "Bisharp - LV100" , "Ceruledge - LV100", "Feraligatr - LV100", "Wailord - LV100"
Battle Details:
Going up against Clair's Gym would be the final test of Johto. Her's was the strongest team in the region, and Dragons were not only one of the most powerful types of Pokemon there were but also of special significance to Joey. With weaknesses to virtually nothing but themselves there would be little option but to follow the same formula he had against Pryce and pursue the secondary typings for most of his damage output.

Should Clair bring-out Gyarados Joey would send his Dragonite, Baby Dragon. While Dragonite wouldn't have any inherent resistances against the moves that would be coming its way the presence of Thunder Punch in its arsenal gives it a weapon that grants it massive damage output. Pushing its advantage even further by opening with a Dragons Dance would mean that it was putting out solid damage and also having a decent chance at paralyzing Gyarados, and should allow Baby Dragon to come out on-top without too much trouble. Should lucky criticals or type-advantaged moves bring him too low too fast, though, Joey would be quick to make use of items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

Should Clair bring-out Kingdra Joey would respond with his Wailord, Fortress Whale. The Water-versus-Water matchup would protect Fortress Whale from major damage from many of the moves that might be sent his way and the Grass-Type Damage of his Hidden Power move would allow him to pull a sneaky and put out large amounts of super-effective damage. Due to his Choice Specs this would lock him in on just using this move, but would increase the damage he put out by x1.5 in return. The large mount of sustained damage he'd be putting out each turn, in addition to his resistance against many of the moves that would be coming at him would mean he was able to stay in the fight longer, extended even further through Joey's readiness with items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores.

In the event that either of these Pokemon failed to take out their respective matchups the other one would be ready and able to pick up their slack. Dragonite would have the ability to lean-into its Dragon-Type moves like Dragon Rush in the event that it was put up against Kingdra and Wailord would still be able to contentedly put-out more Hidden Power regardless of which Water-Type it was up against. Either way, it would be well-planned that either of these two would be standing-by to help the other clean its proverbial plate if the need arose.

Against Dragonite Joey would put out his Charizard, Red-Eyes Black Dragon. While lacking a Dragon-Typing of its own Charizard possess a good amount of Dragon-Type firepower and would be repeatedly putting out the powerful Dragon Claw, doing super-effective damage against his enemy while being safe from having the same done back to him. Dragonite largely lacks for any moves that would do super-effective damage against Red-Eyes as well, so that would tilt the scales more into Joey's favor than the considerable level-gap would already have been doing and, simple as spamming is in terms of a strategy, should let Red-Eyes come out the victor in the dragonic duel. Should things start to go badly, however, Joey would liberally provide his fiery friend with restorative items. There's no way he wants to see Red-Eyes Black Dragon come out the loser in a battle of titans like this.

Should the worst happen and each of Joey's monsters be smacked-down one after the other there's still plenty of firepower waiting in the wings. Being able to take a team of six definitely has its advantages when against a team holding only half that number and Feraligatr, Ceruledge, and Bisharp posses more than their fair share of punching power.

- With the combination of Sheer Power and a Life Orb Joey's Feraligatr, Alligator Sword, is doing nearly double damage with every hit regardless of type advantage. Against Clair's Water-Type Pokemon he'd be resistant to much of the damage they could put out, all the while hitting them for big hits every time, and none of Clair's typing has resistance to the Dark Damage that his Dragon's Dance-powered Bite would be doing.

- Joey's Bisharp, Legendary Knight Hermos, possesses resistance to both Flying and Dragon-Type moves. This means that, though he himself wouldn't be able to put-out any super-effective moves, pretty much any and all damage that Clair's Dragonite might bring his way would be halved. With Sword's Dance, Knock-Off, and Night Slash at the ready he would have all the strength needed for the Knight to slay the Dragon.

- Though the newest member of Joey's Team his Ceruledge, Gearfried the Iron Knight, has more than his fair share of power. Though disadvantaged against Clair's Water-Type Pokemon he would still have the strength of the brutally-powerful Solar Blade which, when enhanced through Sword's Dance, would make for a quite-possibly lethal strike. Against her Dragonite the classic regenerative combination of Flare Blitz and Bitter Blade would make it hard-as-nails to keep him down, and make for a situation in which Gearfried would have a solid opportunity to come out on top.

Overall there should be more than enough power to bring her Pokemon down, which would mark the conclusion of the Johto region for Joey and an important milestone for his team.

Team: Haunt, Roc, Hinotama, Wight
Battle Details:

VS Pinsir

Ryou is leading in with Haunt the Yamask, taking advantage of the fact that most of Pinsir's movepool is mostly made up of Normal and Fighting attacks to pick a Pokémon that's immune to those. He's going to have Haunt open with Will-O-Wisp to try and land a burn on the Pinsir and lower its attack that way, then, if Will-O-Wisp connected, use Hex to pile on the damage. If Will-O-Wisp doesn't connect, then he'll just use Shadow Ball instead.

VS Heracross

Ryou could keep using Ghost types. But he wants to give some of his other Pokémon a chance to participate, so he'll switch to Roc the Staraptor for this one. Intimidate cuts Heracross' attack on the switch in, and with the massive level gap (37 vs 61), Ryou will skip his usual status inflicting to go straight for Aerial Ace. If Bugsy tries to U-Turn into Scizor to stop Roc, then Ryou will return the favour with Whirlwind to force the Steel/Bug type out again.

VS Scizor

It's back to the Ghost types as Ryou sends in Hinotama the Lampent! Ryou will open with Double Team for a quick evasion boost, followed by Will-O-Wisp once again for the chip damage and attack cut and Confuse Ray to confuse the Scizor. Once all that is done, he'll finally attack with Flame Burst, striking right at Scizor's weakness to Fire attacks.

If needed at any point, Ryou does have Wight the Cursola on backup, who can come in with a nasty combo of Power Gem for super effective damage, Curse to set up a time limit on Bugsy's Pokémon, and Strength Sap to lower attack and heal off damage.

Battle Details:
Against Brock's team of Rock-Types Joey would have a fairly straightforward go of things. With an utterly stupendous level gap between him and his opponent it means that any differentials in power would be magnified even more so he would open with his Wailord, Fortress Whale. Joey's Wailord is very much a one-trick pony thanks to its held item of "Choice Specs" so whichever move he opens with he's subsequently pigeonholed into using for the rest of the match. This isn't an issue against Brock, however, because the move Wailord intends to spam would be Water Spout. Water Spout, in addition to being powered-up via the bonus of stab Water Spout deals damage based on the user's health (of which Wailord has a tremendous pool). Furthermore, the Choice Specs would increase the damage of the move by x1.5 and then the typing advantage would render it super-effective. This should mean that, despite the best efforts of Brock's stalwart team, Fortress Whale should be able to effectively sweep without too much effort. Should his health drop low or the opponent get off some lucky hits, though, Joey would be standing-by with items such as Hyper Potions and Full Restores to get his buddy's health and damage output back on-track.

Should Joey's Wailord somehow be knocked-out by his opposition he would follow-up with his Feraligatr, Alligator's Sword. Alligator's Sword has all the typing and level advantages that Fortress Whale possessed but is a far-stronger Pokemon overall, something that the grisly combination of his held item and hidden ability only amplify. Starting off with a Dragon Dance before immediately beginning a barrage of Aqua Tail would spell a rapid end to Brock's Team, as the Stab bonus and permanent x1.69 multiplier that his Life Orb/Sheer Force combination put out would be more than enough to put them in the ground before including the super effectiveness. Should a lucky critical or just plain attrition bring his health low Joey would be standing by with restoration items to bring him back to full-strength but, in all likelihood, Alligator Sword would simply be overkill.

Should the unthinkable happen and both Joey's fighters go down there would still be a full team of LV100 Brawlers at their back. Though water and grass are the instant killquick for rock plenty of perfectly damaging and lethal moves sit in each and every one of their arsenals, with some of them possessing power or combinations that would make it possible for any of them to simply sweep the opposing team. One way or the other, Joey would be ready for a fight.

Battle Details:
Just like in his battle against Pryce Joey would lean on his Wailord, Fortress Whale, and its Grass-Type Hidden Power move as an opener. With Choice Specs increasing the attack power of the already super-effective move and Wailord's own Water-Typing reducing the majority of damage Misty would send his way the blimpy tank was in an ideal position to bring the pain. Should Fortress Whale's health be chipped-down Joey would make use of items such as Hyper Potions and Full Restores to bring him back up-to-strength, but the overwhelming power gap between the teams should make for a fairly one-sided encounter.

In the event that Fortress Whale was defeated Joey would send out his Dragonite, Baby Dragon. Though Lapras' Ice-Type moves pose a threat to his Pokemon through their strength against Flying-Types the sheer power that Dragonite would be putting-out by comparison should make any showdown they might have short and sweet. Leading with a Dragon Dance before unleashing a barrage of Thunder Punches would see a blistering amount of damage being sent downrange at the opposing team, and the added chance of becoming paralyzed from every hit would only make the already dicey situation Misty was facing even more untenable. Should Type-Advantaged moves or attrition bring Joey's Baby Dragon low he would be quick to dispense restoration items to his Pokepal, bringing him back to full-strength and meaning the thunderous barrage would begin anew.

Should Misty somehow succeed in downing Joey's two titanic offerings to the battle there would still be 4 more fully-leveled Pokemon waiting in reserve. Joey's Feraligatr alone would likely be capable of taking on the entire opposing team, so having the damage output that all four could bring to bear would mean any chance of victory Misty might have would be somewhere between slim and nil.

Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Attila the Rockruff, Shark the Magikarp (yes, a Magikarp), Not-My-Cat the Meowth, Diva the Joltik
Battle Details:

vs. Noctowl
Joltik is the first of IV’s pokemon to enter the ring. It’s a bit of a curious match-up, since both Pokemon have the same level and each has something going for them. Noctowl has the advantage of being evolved, while Joltik - despite being a bug - has the type advantage: both flying and dark attacks only do normal damage to it, while its electric attacks do double the damage to Noctowl.

Joltik wins the fight by first amping its ability to dodge by using Agility and Thunder Wave if Noctowl comes close enough. It then follows up with String Shot and Electro Web to limit Noctowls ability to move freely. Eventually it manages to get onto Noctowl using its strings, where it will spam both electric-type attacks and Absorb until Noctowl faints. At the end of the battle Joltik is both scuffed up and very, very sated from all the energy it absorbed. (exhausted, happy bug rolling around from too much food)

vs. Pidgeot
For this fight IV chooses - Not you, Shark, goddammit again! IV’s magikarp has decided that what a Joltik can, he can do too and volunteers himself into the fight, much to IV’s annoyance. But since the silly fish is already there, he might as well show what he’s made of.

Pidgeot beats Magikarp pretty badly up, but in the end the determined fish manages to Splash-Flail itself into the air in the right timing to land on Pidgeot’s back, where it will keep using Flail. The situation is that strange and unexpected for the poor Pigeot that it forgets to pay attention to its surroundings and flies into a wall. Both pokemon go down, with Magikarp barely not fainting thanks to being so high level. It ends the battle with a determined last Flail that’s loaded with all the damage it’s been taking up until then. If that's not enough, IV will send his Meowth to finish the job. (Magikarp used confuse! It was very effective! What the hell, Magikarp, you can’t even use any attacks that afflict confusion!)

vs. Honchcrow
With the mood of the fight completely ruined, the last bout goes against Rockruff, who has both the type and the level advantage. Rockruff wins using Stealth Rock and Stone Edge, using the fallen stones as jumping helps to catch Honchcrow with Double Team and Crunch.

Team: Attila the Rockruff, Shark the Magikarp, Not-My-Cat the Meowth, Diva the Joltik, Murder the Rookidee
Battle Details:

Pinsir and Heracross will be both facing off against Rockruff, with it having the advantage of being a higher level and a Rock type, which they are weak to. Should Heracross be able to take out Rockruff, then IV’s Rookidee will be there to finish it off using flying attacks and the fact that it’s so damn small that it’ll be hard for an armored beetle to catch it. Since Rookidee is weaker than any of the opposite opponents, it won’t stay for the third bout against Scizor. (It’ll try, though. IV’s pokemon are shining examples of listening to their trainer.)

Magikarp will start the battle against Scizor, trying to use the getting hurt and then bouncing it all back using Flail tactic again, but since Scizor is immune to normal attacks, it won’t use much. Joltik is the next to enter the ring. It’ll use its Web Shot and electric attacks like Electro Web against Scizor while doing its best to stay out of its way. In the end, IV’s Meowth will end the fight using Dark attacks. (We’re not saying that poor Scizor was goaded into slipping on the coins it scattered. It was a good, honorable fights where all the participants looked nothing but noble and magnificent. Even the Magikarp.)

Character: Mandy Ramirez | [personal profile] cmonandslam
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Here, bringing Jangle, Vespa, and Auto
Battle Details: Mandy's bringing all three pokemon on her current team, but she's hoping that Jangle can carry the battle, because Vespa has a type weakness to flying types, and let's be honest, as a ground/ghost type, a large chunk of Auto's move pool just straight up isn't going to land on Falkner's Noctowl or Pigeot. Jangle, besides being the highest leveled on her team (and a few levels higher than anything Falkner will field), resists flying as a steel type and dark as a fairy type, so has pretty good defensive coverage. In the interest of keeping him in the fight, she'll direct him to use Draining Kiss as needed, and especially against the Honchkrow, which is weak to fairy moves. Jangle also is carrying a Sitrus berry, and after using it will be directed to use Recycle. If his HP falls to dangerously low levels even with these precautions, she'll switch in Auto and let it tank for a few rounds while she doses Jangle with suspiciously medicinal soft drinks healing items.

Otherwise, the Klefki will use Metal Sound several times on each of the Noctowl and Pigeot to soften them up, with his Prankster ability letting him fire that off as a priority move; unfortunately, that same ability means that the dark-type Honchkrow won't be effected by it. Once their Special Defense has been lowered, he'll start blasting with Flash Cannon. The Honchkrow will be, as previously mentioned, primarily hit with Draining Kiss, which as a super-effective move does more damage than a regular-effective Flash Cannon anyway.

Team: "Charizard - LV100", "Dragonite - LV100", "Bisharp - LV100" , "Ceruledge - LV100", "Feraligatr - LV100", "Wailord - LV100"
Battle Details:
Lt. Surge’s team would be one of the first times Joey wouldn’t really be able to lean on Typing advantage, as literally nothing he has is capable of landing a super-effective hit against them. Despite this lack of an advantage the fighters that Joey would be putting in to the ring wouldn’t be vulnerable to Electric-Type moves either, so it would end up being a very standard slugfest rather than an exploitation of one weakness or another. As a result Joey would begin the battle with his Ceruledge, “Gearfried the Iron Knight”. With their Flash Fire ability Gearfried is not only invulnerable to Fire damage but, the first time that Fire-Type damage comes their way, it activates the ability further to make any Fire-Type move they use increased in damage by x1.5 for the remainder of the battle. To start off with a powerful hit as well as ensuring that his ability fires despite facing Electric opponents Joey would begin with a Swords Dance before launching into a Flare Blitz. After a powerful opponent like this the next step would begin spamming Bitter Blades, as they would not only be increased in power by his ability but be further increased in power by his Life Orb hidden power. The Life Orb has a recoil damage of 1/10 of Gearfried’s total health, but with the Bitter Blade move itself healing back 50% of the damage it deals it would mean that a solid hit would be capable of healing it back from death’s door to full strength in a single hit. With a double x1.5 multiplier firing with each hit every Ceruledge would be dealing x2.25 damage despite not being super-effective and all but ensuring that he would refill to full health after each and every move. In the event that he was able to be brought down by an unlucky critical or just plain attrition from Lt. Surge’s team Joey would be standing by to use recovery items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores, but the healing that Gearfried would be giving itself every turn would already make it hard to take-out with anything but a one-hit knockout.

Should his Ceruledge fall Joey would follow with his Bisharp, “Legendary Knight Hermos”. Though Steel-Type moves only deal half-damage to Electric-Type opponents more than enough Dark-Type moves lurk in Bisharp’s movelist to ensure that he’s able to put-out solid damage without getting stuck on his opponent’s resistances. Starting-out with a Sword’s Dance as normal Hermos would then begin with a Knock-Off, doing critical damage to the enemy if they were unfortunate enough to have a Held Item and ensuring that whatever advantage it might have given them would be eliminated by blasting it off of them. Following-up with spamming multiple uses of Night Slash would mean that solid damage output would be put-out which, just like with his use of Knock-Off, would be increased in power thanks to his Dread Plate Held Item. Putting-out more and more damage every turn should allow Hermos to put whatever Pokemon Lt. Surge still had standing after Ceruledge got through with him. In the event that there was still some fight left in his opponent’s team despite the beatdown, though, Joey would be waiting in the wings to make use of items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores to bring him back up to full strength.

In the event that both his lead attackers weren’t capable of bringing down the opposing team despite the level gap and the restorative items Joey would still have a whole host of Lv. 100 Pokemon waiting to take their places. Admittedly all of his remaining Pokemon would have typing disadvantages of one kind or another (Whether through Water or Flying-Typing) but there would still be more than enough damage to put whatever the good Lieutenant might have in the the ground multiple times over.

Battle Details:
In direct contrast to how his battle against Lt. Surge had gone Joey’s battle against Erika would look to be a singularly one-sided affair. Opening up with his Charizard, “Red-Eyes Black Dragon”, Joey would be able to open up immediately with salvos of Flamethrowers. Boosted beyond their already super-effective level by his Wise Glasses Held Item the attack power of each attack would be capable of knocking a Pokemon out of the battle with almost every hit and, with no wind-up period used on moves like Swords or Dragon Dance, would begin immediately. Should the veritable barbecue that the battle against Erika’s team would likely be somehow bring his Charizard near-knockout Joey would be standing-by to use restorative items like Hyper Potions and Full Restores to get him back in the fight.

In the event that his Charizard was somehow brought down Joey would bring his Ceruledge, “Gearfried the Iron Knight”, into battle. Opening up with a Swords Dance and immediatley launching into the move Flare Blitz would allow him to manually activate his Ceruledge’s ability, Flash Fire, which would then ensure that any Fire-Type damage he put out for the rest of the battle would be increased by x1.5. When combined with his Life Orb Held Item it would mean that he was putting out x2.25 damage before even adding-in the super-effectiveness of each of his moves against Erika’s Grass-Type Pokemon. Proceeding into spamming his Bitter Blade move would then allow Gearfied to heal 50% of the damage he put-out, meaning he’d be able to restore nearly his entire health reservoir with each and every hit. This would allow him to put-out massive damage while ensuring that pretty much nothing but a one-hit-ko move would be capable of putting him down. Should Erika somehow succeed in bringing his Ceruledge low, though, Joey would have a host of restoration items on-standby to get his health back up.

If both of these powerhouses were unsuccessful in turning Erika’s team into an autumnal bonfire Joey would still have four more Lv. 100 Pokemon ready-and-waiting to step into the ring. Joey’s two Water-Type Pokemon would have a typing disadvantage, sure, but they possess plenty of moves to be able to do damage over the resistances they’d face as well as each of them holding powerful enough attack and defense to be able to practically take the team on single-handedly.
