Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

Character: Peter Venkman | [personal profile] neverstudied
Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: regular
Team: Roach (Golisopod, lvl 65) Garfield (Torracat, lvl 56) Bond (Talonflame, lvl 78) The Critics (Dodrio, lvl 75) Luca (Squirtle, lvl 63) Kirby (Mimikyu, lvl 54)
Battle Details:

So, unlike his Violet Gym battle, Venkman's noticeably worried about his odds here. He has several Pokemon that are good against Steel types, but Jasmine's Pokemon have at least one counter to nearly anything he can bring to the table. So he's bringing a full team this time.

Sadly, Toxic will be useless here, but you know what isn't useless? Will-o-wisp. Garfield, Bond, AND Kirby are packing that, and they will definitely prioritize using it when they're on the field. Also, literally all of Venkman's Pokemon know Attract now. While this is useless for the Magneton, they'll prioritize using this against the Skarmory and Steelix, should the gender matchup work.

For the most part, this is a battle of throwing power against the wall, hoping it sticks, and hoping the moves that can wreck his team don't hit.

Bond will go out first, and try to set up Double Team and Swords Dance after using Attract[if applicable] and Will-o-wisp on the Skarmory. The hope is that maybe, if she gets lucky, she can sweep or almost sweep the whole team with Flare Blitz and some Roosts. This will almost certainly not happen, as Magneton and Steelix both have plenty of moves that can wreck this firebird. If she has the opportunity before getting knocked out, she'll U-Turn into another teammate.

Garfield will get wrecked by any Rock or Ground moves, but he packs some powerful fire moves in the form of Flamethrower and Flare Blitz. He's also got Double Kick, though that's nowhere near as powerful. Sadly, he's a very lazy boy, so his fighting ability is lacking.

Roach can hit hard on Steelix with moves like Brick Break, Drill Run, Liquidation, and Razor Shell (and can use Swords Dance to beef those up), though Steelix's high defense can probably tank it too, and moves like Thunder Fang and Rock Slide will decimate the poor bug and probably activate Emergency Exit. And of course, both Skarmory and Magneton have plenty of super-effective moves against a water bug.

Luca is mainly here for the Steelix- Hydro Pump and Water Pulse are both special moves, so they won't be affected negatively by Steelix's high defense. She doesn't have too much to offer otherwise- Magneton will destroy her, and she has nothing to offer against the Skarmory except some brute force. She DOES have some added survivability in the form of Protect and Iron Defense, though.

The Critics are here for their high level and for their one Ground-type move, Stomping Tantrum. The hope is that if the absolute worst case scenario happens, they can maybe knock out the Magneton or Steelix with that.

Lastly, Kirby. This is a Fairy type in a Steel gym. She's got Drain Punch... and that's basically her only advantage not already covered earlier. She's the absolute LAST resort.

Regardless of whether or not Venkman wins or loses this, it's time to cross the ocean [either on his own Pokemon or Egon's Lapras] and go against...

Badge/Gym Leader: Storm Badge
Elite/Regular: regular
Team: Roach (Golisopod, lvl 65) Bond (Talonflame, lvl 78) The Critics (Dodrio, lvl 75) Kildarby (Murkrow, lvl 61)
Battle Details:

This battle is a hell of a lot more fun, at least for Venkman. It's bird time again! And one bug.

Again, Attract, Toxic, and Will-o-wisp are Venkman's best friends. Swords Dance and Double Team when applicable, too.

Roach has an advantage in the form of Bug-types resistance to Fighting (have u ever punched a bug) though he doesn't have anything super-effective against any of Chuck's Pokemon. This is really a brute force matchup. Thunderpunch will hurt him like hell, though, and Emergency Exit will probably trigger at some point.

Bond obviously won't try to fight the Poliwrath- or, well. She'll TRY to fight the Poliwrath, but Venkman will have enough common sense to not throw fire at water unnecessarily. Brave Bird everything.

The Critics and Kildarby are both there to throw Flying type moves at Pokemon weak to Flying type moves. This battle is nowhere near as nailbiting and difficult as the other one. Just like with Roach, Thunderpunch is an issue, as well as Ice Punch, but hopefully level advantages and the use of moves like Attract will make the suffering negligible.

Battle Details: Webby's gonna start with her strongest, her starter Ponyta. She'll start off the battle with Agility, and then use a combination of Ponyta's fire moves and Stomp. Depending on how far her Ponyta gets, she'll switch him out to Luxio if his HP gets to low. From there she will use Bite and Charge. And with her Litleo, she will use Headbutt, Fire Fang, and Take Down.

Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lute | Lvl 77, Arlert | Lvl 77, Libera | Lvl 55, Jaeger (Litleo) | Lvl 43, Aphrodite | Lvl 64.
Battle Details: The unfortunate truth walking in is the speed and attack priority will not be on Arlert's side, even with her starting off in the battle. The first hit she takes will bring her down low, unless Hitmonlee is asked to do status type moves first. Assuming Hitmonlee goes on the offensive with a physical attack, regardless of using Zen Headbutt (with Twisted Spoon's bit of help) or Moonblast, to capitalise on Hitmonlee's weaknesses to Psychic and Fairy, both pokemon will be left standing with low health. With the differences in attack priority, Arlert is likely to be taken out before executing a second move.

Caveat: if Hitmonlee is using High Jump Kick and misses, then half their HP will be taken away from recoil. At that point, Arlert's first hit with any of her moves (Air Slash for STAB and Hitmonlee's weakness, or any of her Pyschic moves, or Moonblast) will wipe Hitmonlee out, leaving her intact to face Hitmonchan. At that point, she's likely to also take out Hitmonchan, and face off with Polywrath, but for the sake of sharing experience, Annie will pull Arlert out and put Libera in to fight the Polywrath should this happen.

Should Arlert be taken out in the first fight, however, then Lute will switch in, as he has Psychic-type moves to utilize, despite his weakness to Fighting type moves. Lute is likely to make his move first against Hitmonlee, who even if healed, will be dealing with Psycho Cut coming from Lute.

Lute will still be on the field when Hitmonchan is brought in. Hitmonchan has moves which can hit first and will hit Lute hard, making him take damage before he retailiates with a repeat of Psycho Cut. Psycho Cut at his level and with the weakness Hitmonchan has is likely to take her out of the fight.

Polywrath and Lute will then be on field facing each other. Lute is likely to attack faster with priority, once again with Psycho Cut, because he'll likely go first and take out Polywrath before being taken out himself.

If he does get knocked out, Libera will switch in to use Grass-type moves against Ploywrath to great effect. Should be one hit and Polywrath is out, since even while Libera does not have Lute's level difference with Polywrath, unlike Lute, she has STAB with her Grass-type moves, making them even more effective against Polywrath, who's already weak to them.

Annie will walk away from this battle considering what kinds of Ghost-types she should bring to her team, looking forward to the time where she'll be facing against Chuck's elite team in the future.

Character: Annie Leonhart | [personal profile] lyingheart
Badge/Gym Leader: Thunder Badge/Lt. Surge
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Lute | Lvl 80, Arlert | Lvl 80, Libera | Lvl 58, Jaeger (Litleo) | Lvl 46, Aphrodite | Lvl 67.
Battle Details: Annie will be coming to this fight with items/berries to handle Paralysis, as it's the largest concern dealing with these pokemon. Given Magneton's capabilities, she'll also bring items/berries to handle Freezing and Burning.

Libera is the only pokemon on her team with Ground-type attacks, so she'll be taking point to start. Facing Electabuzz, she'll use Earthquake in order to set the scene. Electabuzz may use a Lightning attack, but it seems unlikely, with Libera's resistance to Electric-type moves. With a successful use of Earthquake, Electabuzz will be taken out of the field.

With Magneton, Annie will switch in Jaeger, because he needs the experience and, frankly, to be taken down a peg. If he manages to absorb the first attack (which if geared for Libera, may be Tri Attack) without getting a status effect inflicted, he'll use his strongest Fire-type attack, Flamethrower. A successful hit will take Magneton out of the field, and Jaeger will then be switched out with Libera for the final fight.

If Jaeger is instead afflicted with a status effect, Annie will either use an item/berry to heal that effect, or if Jaeger's throwing a fit, leave it on him until he's taken out. If he's been afflicted with Paralyze, he may still be able to move, in which case she'll instruct him to use Flamethrower for STAB and weakness to Fire-type moves on Magneton's behalf. If he cannot move, she'll take him back after the next hit knocks him out, and send out Libera again.

The start of the battle with Raichu is quite likely to include Fake Out, if using base moves alone. Libera will end up flinching, so her first attack will be thwarted, and she'll absorb Raichu's first hit. She'll likely have to take Raichu's second attack as well, though as Libera is resistant to Electric attacks, the effect will be lower than expected. Annie will be asking Libera to use Earthquake to good effect, so that when it hits Raichu, Raichu will be knocked out, and the battle will end.

Jaeger will be healed post battle, or revived and healed if he was knocked out, and will try to chatter at Lt. Surge's pokemon after if he can. He'll be insistent on having his own Electric-type attack... which if Annie capitulates, will come from the Vermilion City Pokemon Center.

Totally annoyed that he needs more badges to do more things, Dandy's gonna eventually backtrack to Violet so he can fly on his bird. Thank god for teleporters. He has no real strategy for this one, but his three favorite girls are all level 100 now so he's mostly focusing on out muscling his opponent.

Although he will be focusing on trying to make this Lulu's battle, because it's the bird gym. And his bird is obviously cooler. She can, like, shoot rocks out of her mouth and everything and it won't even occur to him that her Skill Link ability makes them hit five times every time.

ANYWAY, same idea as the Violet City gym, only he knows Ass Rat's flamethrower is going to come in handy again. Lulu's flying moves are also super effective against most of them, and Martini's just there because she loves to bite stuff.

Battle Details:

Egon finally got off his ass and realized he could challenge Pokémon gyms for rewards--money, TMs, and the glory of having a badge.

Egon knows most of his team is on the slow side, but that's why he'll first be using Q*Bert to deploy a Trick Room before returning him immediately. That way, Egon's Pokémon are almost guaranteed to hit first or have time to prepare a set-up before being attacked by any of Chuck's Pokémon. As this gym is almost entirely fighting type, Egon's going to be relying on Kölliker, his Reuniclus, to be delivering the hard hits, like Psyshock and Psychic while using Recover when she needs to gain back some HP and Protect to prevent those punches/kicks from getting through to her. Hopefully, that change in speed bracket can help Kö easily dispatch her foes. If Kö falls prey to Chuck's team, Egon will switch to Q*Bert and attempt to use their Psychic-type moves like Psybeam and using Agility to boost Porygon2's speed.

When it comes to dealing with Poliwrath, he'll try to whittle down its health with Kö, if she's still in the fray, but he'll eventually send out Faraday, his Trevenant starter, to deal Grass-type moves such as Horn Leech or Giga Drain. She might be a little overleveled for this, but Egon can't just go challenging his first gym without having his daughter participating, as well.

Character: Riku | [personal profile] islandshore
Badge/Gym Leader: Elite Four
Elite/Regular: Elite Four
Team: Small edit! I just realized that the levels were way outdated because I've neglected my roster a bit. All mons should be level 100 by now and I'll double check their comments in the roster post. Flare (Charizardite-X), Crush (Life Orb), Drench (Soft Sand), Gear (Leftovers), Knight (Expert Belt), Axis (Leftovers)
Battle Details: Riku will be packing some hyper potions and revives for the occasion, as well as at least some status healing items.

Will:

Riku will begin by laying down Spikes and Stealth Rock with Gear. Once he's laid down his traps, he'll then switch Pokemon depending on Will's active party member. If Bronzong, he'll switch to Flare and have him transform into Mega Charizard X. Riku's priority will be utilizing type advantage along with Sunny Day if Bronzong is present. If Will utilizes Slowbro, Flare does know both Solarbeam and Thunder Punch for the type advantage, and the latter packs a solid Tough Claws boost. With Sunny Day, he can also boost the power of his fire type moves, and if the traps are successfully setup, he may utilize Roar to let the traps chip away.

If Xatu attempts to defog the traps away, Flare, Gear, Drench, Crush, and Axis all know Rock Slide to score a super effective hit.

If need be, Flare can utilize Shadow Claw to deal with Gardevoir, though Riku will prioritize Axis the Metagross for Gardevoir and for a little added muscle and type advantage.

His next resort would be Crush the Hydreigon, but his priority would be taking out Gardevoir before he lets his dragon run amok. After that, Crush's type advantage should help keep the momentum going if the other party members fail. He also knows Roost to heal from Life Orb damage.

Knight would remain on standby, since he lacks a type advantage, but may pop in for Wish support. Drench also lacks a clear type advantage, but the raw power with neutral hits would help if all else fails.

Koga:

Koga's poison types present an interesting challenge in the form of statuses. Luckily, Riku's packed two steel types. While Skuntank's Flamethrowers and Explosions present a frustrating challenge for Riku's steel types, he will lead with Gear again for the sake of poison immunity and bulk and lay out his Stealth Rocks and Spikes. If a defogger comes out to play, so too will the Rock Slides. He'll do everything in his power to preserve the traps and keep Gear alive due to his important status as a wall.

Axis will be the secondary focus of this fight, thanks to the poison immunity and Psychic typing. Riku's focus with Axis will be STAB hits, which should be especially useful against Toxicroak.

Though Riku's steel types will be leading the charge, the majority of his team knows Earthquake, and while Knight's fairy typing leaves him weak to poison, he also packs STAB Psychic moves to exploit those weaknesses.

Bruno:

Hitmontop is an obstacle to Riku's trap strategy, so the sooner he can take it out, the better. Thus, Riku's initial priority will be using Flare as a Mega Charizard X to apply a sick burn to those fighters with Will-o-Wisp (except Hariyama and Machamp- he doesn't wanna risk Guts).

If Hitmontop carries Intimidate, he can still utilize Special Attacks like Air Slash or, if the need arises, use Swords Dance. Ultimately, Riku will try to keep Flare up and kicking for most of the fight so that he can spread burns as much as possible. Flare also knows Roost to heal, which should give him some nice longevity.

Once Hitmontop's wiped out, Riku will resume his trapping strategy and lay down some Spikes and Stealth Rock with Gear. Gear will likely use Fly to make the battle extra irritating. Ultimately, though, his primary purpose will be the traps.

Axis will be the next big hitter with his Psychic typing. Riku will have him use Magnet Rise to avoid unwanted Earthquakes, and then go to town with his STAB Psychic moves. The exception for this being Lucario, who he'll have his team either slam with Earthquake or, if Flare's still kicking, use his fire moves instead.

Crush is weak to fighting type moves, so Riku will only use him as a last resort, likely for Lucario, due to Flamethrower. Drench is once again there for extra muscle and STAB earthquakes.

Knight will remain on standby due to his frail defenses, but will be there for Psychic and Fairy type moves to land those supereffective hits.

Karen: Riku will again lead with Gear for stealth Rock and Spikes. If Honchkrow comes out to play, Gear will utilize Rock Slide, which when combined with the Stealth Rocks should make for an unenjoyable experience. Once the hazards are in place, and if Honchkrow is removed to prevent unwanted Defog, Riku will utilize Flare to spread burns. This will be especially crucial against Umbreon because Flare's typing renders him immune to burns and thus makes Synchronize useless.

Knight will take action against Spiritomb, utilizing Fairy Type moves for supereffective damage. Riku will try to save Knight for Umbreon, too, but if all else fails, Riku will let Crush pick up the scraps with Life Orb boosted Superpower and U-Turn.

The rest of the team is there for standby. Drench and Axis both know supereffective fighting moves to deal with Dark types if all else fails. This will probably be one of the more frustrating matches due to the tendency for Dark types to utilize statuses like confusion. It could very well turn into a battle of attrition and stall.

Lance:

Stealth rock, stealth rock, gotta love that stealth rock! That'll be Riku's initial starting plan. With so many flying types on Lance's team, this should deal some gnarly damage on the switch.

With rocks set, Riku will move on to the next big step in the fight. Namely, spreading burns. Flare turning to Mega Charizard-X risks supereffective dragon moves, but with Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Punch to take care of Gyarados, he should at least be a relatively clutch player in the fight. Riku's priority with Flare will be primarily to keep the burns going and provide super effective hits where needed. He may also use Roar to force Lance's party to take extra chip damage from those rocks.

Axis and Drench both know ice type moves, thus their priority will be hitting those 4x moves on Dragonite, Altaria, Garchomp, and Salamence. With Protect, Axis may also take advantage of Leftovers healing in a pinch. Axis also has ThunderPunch to deal with Gyarados if Flare fails.

Knight and Crush will be there if all else fails. Knight's Fairy typing gives him an edge against Dragon type STAB and he can dish back powerful Moonblasts and Will-o-Wisps for burns. Crush, while weak to dragon STAB, is a powerful Dragon in his own right, with Life Orb to boot, and that combined with the rocks should at least give Riku a chance.

Overall, Lance will be a rough battle, though, due to the sheer power and versatility of Dragon types. Riku knows this well, and he'll be taking whatever precautions he can to counteract those powerful critters.

Team: Ember (lvl 56), Lacey (lvl 60), Benton (lvl 100)
Battle Details:

Connor is taking advantage of Steel's weakness to Fire types this battle, with a full team of Fire type Pokemon. He has a couple of Hyper Potions with him too, because he really wants to win this one!

He'll send out Ember first, who will use Confuse Ray to confuse the Skarmory, and then Flamethrower to take it down. If Ember is still standing once the Skarmory goes down, she'll face up against the Magneton. She'll use Will-O-Wisp to inflict a burn, and then Fire Blast to damage the Magneton. If she faints, Lacey will take her place. She'll use Sunny day to boost Fire type moves, and then Flamethrower to finish off the Magneton.

For the Steelix, Connor is taking no chances and is bringing out Benton. He'll also be used if Ember and Lacey faint. He'll be going all out with offensive attacks, such as Flamethrower and Fire Fang. With Sunny Day still in effect, and given Benton's level, he hopes the Steelix will quickly faint.

Badge/Gym Leader: BLUE/EARTH BADGE
Elite/Regular: ELITE TEAM
Team: https://pikapikajankenpo.dreamwidth.org/1060.html
Battle Details: Against Venusaur, Rapidash is the main choice. It's going to be a type matchup to deal with his front-liner. Fire Blast, Fire Wheel, Agility to keep him on his toes, and Strength to finish him off. Flame Charge to get in close. Once Blue switches for Blastoise, out comes Pikachu the Raichu to completely overwhelm him with Thunderbolt, Grass Knot and Nasty Plot, and finish him with Electro Ball if he's still standing.

Charizard is the problem next but Alola Golem is up next, to counter his damaging moves and will match him with starting up with Rock Blast, and then Gyro Ball, Magnet Rise for agility to float into the air and dart about the battlefield in order to use Smack Down to crush him down from above. And then he will smash in with Metal Claw and finish him with Bullet Punch.

Tyranitar is another tough opponent which will be swapped with Ampharos. Yayoi is taking NO chances, and she brings out Ampharos and MEGA EVOLVES to Mega Ampharos in which he unleashes it's full power with Electro Ball, Take Down, paralyzing it with Thunder Wave, Cotton Spore and finishing it off with Signal Beam and Thunder Bolt.

Pidgeot is done when deathkyu the Mimikyu comes out. deathkyu will Thunderbolt it repeatedly, jump on it's back and keep Thunderbolting it until it falls. It's kind of a ass like that. No mercy. It'll keep smashing it with Shadow Claw and using Wood Hammer to keep it off balance if it tries to throw it off.

And finally, Magneton will absorb Jolteon's attacks and weather any other attacks with his steel body, absorbing lightning and using Charge to build up energy, and then using Zap Cannon to completely overwhelm Jolteon in one fell swoop.

...

And then Yayoi realizes she makes one mistake in the entire battle, stupid Jolteons are Volt Absorbers, summons Pikachu the Alola Raichu, and Psychics Jolteon into a wall over and over until it submits.

And that should be game.

Oh shit, gotta get one more badge before he goes on vacation. Since Whitney's all about using cute Pokemon, Dandy's going to use the cutest Pokemon he's got. A horrible goblin, a giant skunk, and a kaiju.

Girafarig's psychic typing is going to be used against it, which is why Dandy's going to start off with Martini. It shouldn't be too hard since she's ridiculously overleveled. Clefable's going to throw him for a loop though since that is SO not a normal-type.

...But that's fine, he's just going to switch out with Ass Rat. Her poison attacks should take it out no problem. It's also becoming increasingly clear that he understands type match ups now.

The actual battle will probably be against Miltank, which Dandy will decide to let Honey have a go at. This is her first gym battle and she isn't nearly as strong as the other two, but she's at least the same level as Miltank. She's also a fighting-type and has the advantage, as well as resists any pesky spammed rollouts. If she doesn't make it, he's still got his other two girls, but he's hoping Honey's first gym match is a successful one.

Heracross will be attacked first. Newt is going to send out Flame the Charizard for her Fire and flying attacks.

Pinsir will be attacked by Pyre and Reliable taking turns but mostly Pyre.

Lastly Newt will let Ripley out to fight and she will take on the Scizor with Reliable as backup. As well as the others if they're still standing. But Newt is pretty sure Ripley has this.

He's not taking on Olivine right now because the man loves bugs and plants and neither of his non-plant or bug babies are old enough to take on Jasmine right now.

So! Ever since coming to this world, Egon has cultivated a lot of expertise on Ghost-type Pokémon and is using this to his full advantage. Or, uh, at least he would if he had any Dark-type Pokémon. Nevertheless, he's going to come out swinging with Ko, his Reuniclus, to try and get rid of both Morty's Haunter and Gengar. It doesn't hurt that she's definitely kind of overleveled for this. He's going to rely on Q*bert, his Porygon, and the fact that Ghost-type moves can't hit Normal-type Pokémon to get in a few hits against Morty's Misdreavus. If he has to, he's going to fall back on Lambton for safety, but this is only if Q*bert and Ko both fail.

Once he finishes battling Morty, he's going to move on to Goldenrod....

Battle Details: Also known as Oops! Mostly Bugs

Egon is going to be playing to the individual weaknesses of Whitney's Pokémon. For Whitney's Clefable, he's bringing Doppler, his Crobat in an effort to dish out Poison damage and stay fast enough to maybe get in more poison damage against her other Pokémon. For Miltank, uh...he actually doesn't have any Pokémon to play into its weaknesses, but he's going to be allowing Riley, his Flygon, to take a chance and really bust out her powerful moves. He's going to try to avoid bringing Riley out for Clefable at all costs--those Fairy-type moves hurt, man. As for Whitney's Girafarig, well...Egon's been excited for a long time to put his favorite Pokémon in the spotlight--his Shuckle, Karl Wilhelm Gottlieb Leopold Fuckel.

...Egon will be annoyed when Whitney inevitably laughs at the Shuckle's name, but he believes wholeheartedly in his Pokémon, and really, isn't that what it's all about? He's quite aware that Shuckle isn't really any sort of attacking powerhouse, but he'll be using the Shuckle to set up and support another one of his favorite Bug Pokémon which is slightly lower-leveled for this gym--Sir Vincent Wigglesworth.

I hope you know that Egon takes both names very seriously.

Additionally, on top of all of these weakness plays, Egon's going to be using Toxic on every single one of Whitney's Pokémon, since all of his Pokémon on his team know the move. Doesn't hurt to be annoying with your strategy sometimes!

Battle Details: Dirk has somewhat overprepared for this, homework wise, in part because he's expecting it to be significantly more complicated than a regular battle. He's leading with TAN (Rotom) because he wants to save his strongest and take advantage of the Ghost type immunity to Normal type moves. He's also going heavy on the Status, because Thunder Wave is part of TAN's moveset, and Confuse Ray is available as well. (Thunder Wave dropping speed as well as adding chance for paralysis, etc.) Rather than aiming to knock out Faulkner's first with TAN, he's putting status on and swapping to Pulse Train (Klang), both because of Pulse Train's higher level and Steel's resistances.

He will literally keep doing this as needed, but he won't leave TAN out for longer than a successful Thunder Wave requires against Honchkrow, as he learnt his type resistances and his Pokedex will helpfully inform him--via rap--what Honchkrow's typing is. He WILL leave TAN out once Pidgeot is sent out, though, since its Electric attacks pack a bit more punch.

Acorn (Ponyta) is mostly there to mop up whatever's needed with Flame Wheel or Flare Blitz.

Destiny Match of Electric Trainer vs Rock Gym Leader

[personal profile] pikapikajankenpo 2019-07-11 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Yayoi Kise | [personal profile] pikapikajankenpo
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock!
Elite/Regular: ELITE TEAM
Team: Pikachu (Alola Raichu), Rapidash, Ampharos, Mimikyu, Magneton, Alola Golem
Battle Details: Please let me know if I have to revise the battle details to a less narrative one, it just sort of happened. She's literally got an audience for this.

Yayoi faces off against Brock, declaring a six on six match at the Elite Level with him. She summons her first Pokemon, Pikachu the Alolan Raichu to the field. There’s a moment of awkward silence from him as he questions why she’s using Electrics and she replies there’s no other Pokemon she has.

He nods, and summons Rhyperior. The match is called. The first move is Yayoi’s. She commands [Grass Knot] which will bind Rhyperior’s legs, and Pikachu uses its speed from it’s Pikachu years to get in close. There, it will deliver [Double Slap] repeatedly until Rhyperior falls from all sides, finishing up with a literal [Psychic] downwards slam into the battlefield. It’s a literal mismatch as Rhyperior tries to counter but the speed difference, plus the [Grass Knot] keeping it bound limits its ability to counter, and the lack of electric moves from the Raichu caused Brock to underestimate her. Not anymore. At the last breath, Brock commands [Stealth Rock] to seed the ground.

The second match, will be against Rampardos. Yayoi recalls Pikachu and summons deathkyu the Mimikyu who starts out the fight with [Shadow Claw.]. The pair will trade blows as deathkyu takes blows, using [Shadow Sneak] to get behind him and use [Play Rough] in order to inflict damage and chip away at his opponents HP. [Wood Hammer] inflicts considerable damage but in the end, deathkyu falls. Yayoi recalls him to the side and summons Rapidash. Rapidash opens up with [Flare Blitz], carving a huge chunk of HP away from him and continues the fight with [Agility]. [Flame Charge] does considerable damage to the weakened Ramparados and before Brock can potion, [Flare Blitz] takes him out.

In the lull, Yayoi has the moment to Revive deathkyu but simply comforts it as it holds her hand before Brock asks why she doesn’t revive it. She replies they gave 110% and it would be a disservice to make him fight again, while her family will fight alongside him. So no potions. Brock smirks, and puts his away and tells her to continue this Hot Blooded Battle.

The battle continues. Omastar comes out, and it’s immediately blasted by a [Zap Cannon] from Magneton who then [Charge]s mid [Zap Cannon] for extra umph. Yayoi’s kid gloves are off. Brock’s blood is surging as he summons Onix. Onix rampages through Magneton and knocks it down to half HP before the next attack, but Yayoi counters with [Flash Cannon] while using [Magnet Rise] to dodge. It becomes a war of attrition before Onix forces Yayoi to Switch by grounding Magneton via [Smack Down] but not before [Stealth Rock] weakens it.

Down 2 Pokemon to Brock’s 3, Onix is her main obstacle as Yayoi brings out Stronger, Alola Golem. Stronger goes toe to toe with Onix, trading punches as Onix blasts through with [Dig] and [Slam]. Golem manages to get the momentum and [Rollout] slams into Onix and sends Onix into the wall as a luckily timed [Magnet Rise] launching him up the Onix like a cannonball gaining momentum to come down like a meteor for a [Earthquake] right atop Onix. That should finish the job but severely damages Golem’s HP in the process from that move.

With Onix down, its down to Kabutops which Yayoi pulls back the exhausted Stronger who is also damaged by [Stealth Rock], and brings out Magneton once more and winds up for a [Charge/Zap Cannon] combo but this time Brock is ready for her, and slams into her before the combo is completed, knocking down Magneton. Yayoi recalls him and pulls out Cotton Candy, the Ampharos and sends it out. [Thunderbolt] and [Thunder Punch] are exchanged with physical blows and a lucky [Brick Break] finishes it off.

Finally, Golem comes out and off comes Brock’s shirt, indicating he’s 110% serious. Yayoi returns the tired Ampharos and brings out Pikachu again. Pikachu uses [Psychic] and it weakens him, a bit, while [Grass Knot] works a bit more. She can’t seem to land a good [Double Kick] and is felled. Rapidash is instantly KOed by a neatly placed [Rock Slide]. Stronger comes out and the pair grapple together, trading blows before Stronger collapses. Brock and Yayoi are literally heaving at this point. The crowd is tense. They’re down to their last Pokemon and both are in critical mode.

Cotton Candy comes out and Brock starts his attack with [Hyper Beam]. Yayoi crosses her arms -- And Mega Evolves. Mega Ampharos hits the field, Brock tries to prevent the Evolution and attack but is too late as [Dragon Pulse] slams into Golem, and it’s game.

Yayoi wins on at narrow 5-6 as they shake hands.

Somewhere Yayoi lost her shirt in the process. No one seems to mind this at all.

And the star of the show is going to be Kushi the Joltik! There's one specific move that the little guy has been told to bring out at a constant rate, and that move is 'Electroweb'- slow 'm down, as much as possible! From there Kushi will be using Electro Ball- which of course, does more damage the faster she is than the others!

But Kushi has one more ace in the hole if things get tight between this whole running recreation of monster hunter she's pulling; Volt Switch. Thanks to a good use of TMs, Kushi will swap out for Misty the Salazzle once things get too tight.

In that case, Salazzle will be using a good double down on status effects followed by attacking- while she lacks the Venoshock move that will really make it stick, she does have Toxic, and after poisoning the opponent can continue on as normal with STAB fire moves.

And at the end of the line, there's still Mimi-chan the Mimikyu if it all goes to pits; disguise gives Mimi-chan a free hit, and while a number of moves can likely hit them, the normal ones at least won't. Mimikyu can even do some attacking back (and boy have they been raring to go thanks to that chip)! Even if it's just Slash and Feint Attack. They may only have claws, but by golly, THEY WILL SLASH!

Character: Egon Spengler | [personal profile] pkemeter
Badge/Gym Leader: Hive Badge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Karl Wilhelm Gottlieb Leopold Fuckel (Shuckle, Lvl 72)
Battle Details: aka BUG VS BUG: THE ULTIMATE BATTLE

Egon could very easily use his few Flying Pokémon to take down the bug gym. However, that wouldn't be very fun now, would it? So, despite people warning him otherwise, he's coming into Azaela Town with only his most cherished bug--Karl Wilhelm Gottlieb Leopold Fuckel.

Why, you ask?

To test his abilities.

(So what if they're a little overleveled? I totally didn't forget to submit this when Egon was passing by Azaela for the first time.)

Anyways, here's the general strategy--Egon's sending out Fuckel the Shuckle in order to put out some entry hazards such as Sticky Web and Stealth Rock. He's then going to Protect Fuckel from any physical attacks, and then put down a Safeguard to prevent any status effects as he sets this up. If he has time, he'll also throw in some Toxic and, if it applies, Attract. With both of these status effects combined, he hopes to be able to cause enough damage to Bugsy's Pokémon and put so many factors on the field so he can pull off his plan for Shuckle domination.

Egon's goal here is to both render any attacks made by the enemy ineffective as well as bolstering his own Pokémon. He's going to use Power Split to try and average the playing field--after all, Shuckle's attack and sp. attack stats are abysmal, and there's nowhere to go but down for the enemy Pokémon. Egon then will have Shuckle use Power Trick to swap Shuckle's new and improved attack/sp. attack stats with Shuckle's absolutely terrifying defense/sp. defense stats. After that, it's time to go ham with Rollout, Stone Edge, and Rock Slide, all the while reapplying the appropriate protective moves when necessary. If Fuckel's health is looking a little low, Egon will let him Rest.

Don't Fuckel with Shuckle.
