Badge Requests

What does it take? It changes for each gym! Normally, the games increase in difficulty as you progress, but that wouldn't be any fun if characters could just as easily take on the Gyms that are supposed to be for top trainers only. THEREFORE, the gym leaders aren't going to be pushovers like in the games! In order to win a badge, the mods will take into account your current roster and the attacks and advantages to see whether your pokémon is strong enough to win a badge or not.

Each gym leader has a Regular Team of pokemon and an Elite Team of pokemon you can challenge. It's up to a trainer to decide which team to challenge, but if you take on the Elite Team of six level 100 Pokemon, you'll receive double the prize money. The items, however, are not doubled. Excellent for trainers looking for the extra challenge or those looking to make money fast.

!!! Badges must be mod approved. To earn a badge, please comment on this post. Please don't ask for more than two badges to be approved at once!

The Elite Four is now distributing Keystones and Mega Stones to promising trainers! Any trainer who has defeated all eight gyms of a single region will be granted a Keystone and one Mega Stone of their choice. No player will be able to have more than one Mega Stone at a time, and those looking to switch theirs out may do so once every four months. Mega Stones may be used in any casual trainer battle, but as far as gyms go may only be used in Elite battles.

The Indigo Plateau is now open to challengers! To qualify, trainers must have all sixteen badges from Johto and Kanto. Every Pokémon they face will be level 100, and the Elite Four and the Champion have heaps of talent and experience. As such, we will be reviewing Indigo Plateau challenges with more scrutiny than we bring to badge requests. A higher level of strategy is required to win on this field. Show us what you've got!

The League Certificate qualifying the winner to create and lead their own Pokémon "Gym." This Gym is part not of the Indigo League, but the Aurora League.
Aurora League Gym Leaders may choose their own battle specializations, as well as. design their own unique Gym (which will take one month to build from the time of request) and Badge (which will be available as soon as the Gym opens). They will be compensated for their work as Gym Leaders with a stipend that will cover building costs, labor (the Leader's and any Trainers they may employ), and rewards for victorious challengers.

We ask that Aurora Gym Leaders think carefully about the location of their Gym and the difficulty level they wish to present challengers. We also ask that they create their own Badge Request page like this one so that others can request battles with them.

To officially request an Aurora League Gym, fill out the provided template and comment here.

Please use this form to request a badge or a showdown with the Elite Four! Post your request as a comment to this post. Badges will generally be processed once per week, on either Wednesday or during the weekend. Please try not to PM or IM mods about badges (including elite challenges) unless your request has gone unanswered for more than a week.

!!! Please request badges as your character is actually in the general area of the gym!

!!! To preserve the spirit of the game, obtaining badges using recently-inherited Pokémon (ie, Pokemon received from dropped characters) that massively outlevel your own is discouraged. If this happens, you may be asked by the badge mod to revise your team. Inherited Pokemon that your character has had for a while and are the same level as the rest of your character's team are fine to use!

!!! Remember that you must fight all four members of the Elite Four and Champion Lance in a row. You may heal your Pokémon between battles and take a short break, but you cannot leave without ending your challenge.

[RAPID BREATHING IN A BAG] OH GEE HERE WE ARE

[personal profile] insidescoop 2020-06-13 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Carly Nagisa | [personal profile] insidescoop
Badge/Gym Leader: ELITE FOUR CHALLENGE OH GOD
Elite/Regular: theres only one elite four babey
Team: Kyusei, 'Baby' Boo, Red Buster, Evey, as well as Hoggs and Red Daemon
Battle Details:
The time...is now.

Carly brings with her most of her standard team into the Elite 4 run, but for a chunk of the time on Victory Road she's also been training with two pokemon who once belonged to a friend of hers- a friend who came from her world. To honor him, she's added both Harald's starter, and none other than the charmander-turned-charizard who had hatched while they travelled together back in the day...a charizard she even named.

And that Charizard is going first.

WILL

Against Will, Carly leads with 'Red Daemon', a standard Charizard. The psuedo-dragon has a lot at his disposal- but against Will's Bronzong, things are fairly straightforward. He begins with a massive Smokescreen, fogging up the area to give himself the advantage. From there he turns things up using Sunny Day and Substitute- can't risk a hit after all- before slamming forward with powered up fire moves like Flame Thrower. It's ever a classic, after all.

Knowing Will, he'll likely see what's happening and try not to swap out for the next one who's weak to fire- but it's to no avail. No matter who follows after Bronzong, Red uses Roar until the Jynx is in sight, before following with the quick and dirty beatdown of flames.

Which of course leaves the others. Pulling the Daemon back, Carly sends out the other 'Red' on her party- one who's been there longer than they were on their former trainer's party in fact. Red Buster the Aegislash is sent forward ready to fight, and after setting up a Subsitute for themselves as well they gear themselves up with Swords Dance and Shadow Sneak, focusing on quick and speedy moves that no doubt have pokemon like Grumpig and Slowbro straining to keep moving. Even a Trick Room scenario won't help- the sword simply prepares itself into a defensive state before poisoning with Toxic at best, or turning on Destiny Bond at worst. Until they're forced to do just that however, they take down as much of Will's team as possible...

And should the others be needed, it'll no doubt be for little at all. Resonator- the former 'Baby Boo' is next to the plate in such a scenario, ready with Confuse Ray and Phantom Force to keep herself safe and the opponent dizzied. Against Slowbro in particular she's a danger- those grass moves won't just be for show after all. The only one she won't be pulled out against as backup is Xatu; while Gardevoir will still take a significant hit from her ghost moves, a flying type is obviously less than ideal a match there, which means it'll be noneother than Daemon's call instead- pulled back in to make use of the brutally effective Thunder Punch so that things can be handled with more ease.

Ultimately, whatever scraps are left behind won't be an issue for Hoggs the Goodra, Kyusei the Quagsire, and Evey the Alcremie. Scraps are, ultimately, just scraps- and in Evey's case she's got her 'megastone' to help even that field.

After Will is dealt with of course, Carly will be healing up- she's stocked up on revives and full restores for a reason!

KOGA

With poison next up, it's no surprise that Carly is leading with Kyusei. With his ground typing and 'Unaware' ability on his side, he's a tanky beast against Koga's noxious team. Against Skuntank in particular, ground is key- but all of Koga's team, save Crobat, are weak to the fellow's moves. Kyusei opens with the same thing every time- including if Crobat is pulled in.

Yawn.

Yawn, and in the case of anything but the bat, a nice refreshing Rain Dance. Earthquake after all is going to be the first move Kyusei uses offensively, but when it comes to keeping himself safe and otherwise knocking the opponents literally off their feet, that's what Surf and Muddy Water will be used for- and with a boost from Rain Dance, it'll be all the easier to take down the poison pokemon.

But Kyusei alone can't handle a whole team- especially not that bat. Against them in particular, it's going to be Red Buster's turn again. With the advantage of Steel Typing, poison is a status they simply can't obtain- from here, while they may not have many direct advantages, they Will against Crobat. It's a significant cost, but Headsmash after the use of a few more standard ghost and steel type attacks will put crobat down for the count easily.

From there, it's on the others. Heavily defended as she is, Hoggs is next to the call against Koga. Armed as well with the disorienting Muddy Water, she also has access to Protect, not to mention the ever destructive 'Outrage' move...and it's that destruction that Carly is counting on in order to make any remaining scraps easy for even the type-weak Gourgeist and Alcremie to pick up after.

And of course, a set of heals and revives between arenas later...

BRUNO

Carly is...maybe slightly disappointed in Bruno.

Just slightly.

She won't voice it however, particularly since it means that until Lucario comes out she has the chance to do something many have definitely never seen on tv before.

'Mega-max' her Alcremie.

Sent off into battle and quickly upsized into a magnificent cake, the first action is to bring out a Misty Terrain, Decorating herself for an added boost of power. The boost should make using Draining Kiss to pull in any health possibly lost during the fight thus far easy- and if that's not enough, she has Recover as it is.

Not to mention Attract, if enough of Bruno's team are male. It's a simple strategy, but one that Evey makes good use of- pulling out Entrainment just to keep any nasty surprise power-boost abilities from coming into play, Evey charges in as hard and as beautifully as she can with repeated uses of Dazzling Gleam.

But of course, this is a full on battle. Eventually one of two things will happen- either someone else has to step up to the plate because Evey falls before she can recover in time, or Lucario comes out.

In both cases, the answer is betrayingly simple. Who, after all, has access to a host of deensive moves in addition to fire? Red Daemon of course! The minute the Charizard is out, Smokescreen, Substitute, and Sunny Day are pulled forward. Flame Thrower and Fire Blast will make solid work of the Lucario's tragic steel typing, but for the remainder the Charizard first takes care to poison them with Toxic- following up with Aerial Ace to nail that type advantage.

Over all, Bruno should be....a piece of cake.

(That's no excuse to skip out on a healing round, of course.)

KAREN

Ah yes. The Dark Types. Carly once again starts off with Red Daemon's given Weaville being first up to bat- one part because she wants to save the surprise of Alcremie for a Certain Someone Special. Using the smokescreen and sunny day combo, Red will be of course focusing on torching the poor Weaville for all that they're worth, swapping out with others according to whoever is next. Is it the Honchkrow? Then noneother than Red Buster will be up to bat, starting off with a quick substitute and swords dance blend for a few pot-shots via the super effective Sacred Sword before finishing with Head Smash. Is it Houndoom? Kyusei comes forward with plenty of water and health to go around, even bringing Rain Dance in as the first move so that there's no benefit from a lingering Sunny Day if that's a risk.

It's only when one of the solid dark types- or Spiritomb for that matter- rise up that Carly brings out the secret weapon that is Evey. As the only thing that can make use of a weakness for Dark/Ghost pokemon, she's a strong pokemon to have in this fight after all. Mega-evolved up and ready to go with Decorate and Misty Terrain, Evey will be slamming down with Dazzling Gleam as much and as long as she needs before any batons are passed- and while they hopefully won't, Hoggs at the least is certainly tanky enough that they won't be having any issues dealing with the remainder.

With the four Elites handled, that only leaves one final person now...

And with a final bout of healing it's time to face

LANCE

It's finally time for the champion.

The beginning of the fights will seem obvious- Carly has Evey after all, and indeed, Evey will be first up to bat. With the combined power of her going strategy in 'Megamax' mode, fairy typing will make quick work of many on Lance's team.

But Evey can't handle everyone- certainly not the Charizard and Gyarados at least- and while both of them have their own weaknesses to be exploited, Carly pulls up a surprising one indeed.

Once Evey falls, Red Buster is called in for any flying types in need of a solid Head Smash. Charizard meanwhile is plenty willing to risk their own fire to make use of thunder punch for Gyarados- and with their strategy of pulling in Subsitute and Sunny Day, they may indeed stand a chance there. Even Hoggs is a solid part of the plan to whittle away at Lance's team, being a dragon herself.

But the real secret weapon?

'Baby Boo'.

Saved for the last moment, after all else has failed (and no doubt after the others have taken out chunks of Lance's team), Boo's first move is Trick or Treat. Taking the greatest strength away from the opponent and making it a weakness, the gourgeist is quick to from there slide around the field in the shadows and steal across with Phantom Force. Who knows who it will be who has to suffer the consequences of ghost typing for a brief time- but undoubtedly by the end of it...

They'll pull through. The combined strength of Carly's 'usuals', and the ones representing someone who helped her to get where she is now.

And if they don't, they can at least say that they did their best.

Backdated to 6/6 I am so sorry

Character: Johnny Joestar | [personal profile] joekid
Badge/Gym Leader: Bugsy
Elite/Regular: Regular Team
Team: Fly By Night the Noctowl, Merriweather Post Pavilion the Rapidash, and Canned Heat the Torkoal.
Battle Details: Johnny is hoping that heavy type advantage will help the issue of a narrow level gap in this battle. Does the move have the word 'fire' or 'flame' in it? Johnny's new favorite move. 'Air Slash'? That sounds great, he's gonna yell that as much as possible. All offensive, all the time is Johnny's take on this gym battle. Here's hoping it doesn't bite him where it hurts!

Badge/Gym Leader: Whitney
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Tiny Dancer the Mudsdale, Tusk the Dragalge, and Animal Collective the Tropius
Battle Details:

Johnny is pretty bummed he has no real hard hitters against Normal types. But, that's whatever, because he does have Pokemon with 20 levels on Whitney's! Is that going to be good enough to beat her? If she spams Rollout with that damn Miltank, who can say? There will be lots of offensive moves, and lots of attempts at poisoning the opponent when Tusk is on the field. Johnny and his team are going to do their absolute best!

Character: Maya | [personal profile] notyourgoddess
Badge/Gym Leader: Storm/Chuck
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Cataclysm | Meowstic (Lv.100), Phasekey (Kiki) | Klefki (Lv.100), Guardian | Sigilyph (Lv.100)
Battle Details:

Another gym weak to psychic pokemon? Great. Maya will be playing to type advantages and also her team is a lot higher leveled.

The Hitmonlee will be facing her starter pokemon. Cataclysm will attack with mostly psychic moves, however she will be using Disarming Voice, a fairy move ever so often to throw the other pokemon off guard. It's great they're weak to Fairy types as well.

Speaking of fairy types Hitmonchan will be be facing off against Phasekey (Kiki) and she is a fairy type. She'll be using a mix of fairy and psychic moves.

Last the Poliwrath will be facing Guardian who is a Psychic/Flying type and the Poliwrath is weak to both types. Guardian will be using psychic and flying attacks.

Character: Maya | [personal profile] notyourgoddess
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Blue | Shiny!Boldore (Lv.100), Tediore | Electrode (Lv.100), Elpis | Lunatone (Lv.100)
Battle Details:

Again with type advantages and also level advantages.

First Maya will be sending Blue the Shiny!Boldore against the Noctowl as it is weak to Rock attacks.

Second against the Honchkrow Maya will attack with Tediore her Electrode for their Electric attacks as well as the one Rock attack they know.

Thirdly the Pidgeot will face Elpis the Lunatone with her Rock attacks. Also they take normal damage to Psychic and Fairy attacks which Elpis will be using as well and why she is going after this pokemon.

HERE WE GO, BOYOS

[personal profile] strings_theory 2020-06-14 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Jolyne Cujoh | [personal profile] strings_theory
Badge/Gym Leader: ELITE FOUR TIME, BABY
Elite/Regular: There's only one
Team: Here using Stone Free, Laila, Lilith, Butterball, Ermes, and Demon
Battle Details: (I'm so sorry.)

So it’s come for the absolute heathen to finally take a shot at the Elite Four after making probably every gym leader (except maybe Blaine and Surge) in Kanto and Johto hate her. For once, Jolyne is using her brain and is not just throwing brute force into the mix.

It should be assumed that Jolyne has picked up as many healing items and restoring things as she can and will be using them to heal HP and PP of certain moves as much as she can between battles.

Her only Pokemon that will be visible from the get-go is Stone Free, who is absolutely going in holding her trainer’s hand with a bit of string between the two of them. It’s only appropriate to have your starter with you, right?

Will is the first obstacle and be proof of whether her strategies will work out for her on the rest of the Elite Four. Of course, she will continue to infuriate the trainers via not ever saying the correct attack names. Though oddly enough not shittalking them!

The first Pokemon out will be Demon the sylveon who will immediately do something that is probably not expected from a trainer like Jolyne, he is there to set up light screen support for the rest of the team. It can be assumed he is switched in every so often between fights to re-up light screen. Demon is also out here to skill swap the bronzong into having cute charm which is absolutely useless to a genderless Pokemon and will negate whatever ability bronzong currently has.

With that out of the way Ermes will be switched in to set up stealth rock and then come at the bronzong via earthquake and high horsepower to make use of her high attack and lack of levitate on the bronzong to hit in a weak spot. Also any physical attacks that hit Ermes will raise her defense via stamina.

Next out will be Lilith to come up against jynx. Immediately she’ll have her megastone popped into mega houndoom but without the sun weakness due to a lack of harsh sunlight, it’s a means to merely raise her stats. Lilith will be using nasty plot to raise her special to pull and then going for the jynx’s entire career via overheat and inferno. Lilith also stays in on grumpig, but her tactics return to nasty plot to once again maxed out levels. But then change to the houndoom using toxic to poison the poor pig and proceed to slam it via dark pulse.

Stone Free is sent out afterward to contend with slowbro, but the tiny grass-bug is not there to play and is immediately going to start spamming leaf storm to take advantage of that weakness.

Lilith returns once again for gardevoir and slams on toxic before once more using nasty plot to max and then sludge bomb to take it out.

Lastly for this fight is Butterball who will pop hail immediately, nasty plot to maximum, and then lay the damage on with a combination of blizzard (which hits 100% accuracy in hail) and ice beam. Any damage recovery will be done via heal pulse if it’s necessary.

Koga is next up on the block and it should be noted that Jolyne has said absolutely nothing during this whole time other than giving her Pokemon commands. Either way, the battle will start out with Demon leading only to use reflect (please once again assume strategic switching to re-up it) before being switched out for Ermes to deal with the skunktank.

Said mudsdale will be abusing stealth rock to their advantage once again before slamming on the accelerator with sandstorm. With that going she will be using earthquake to full effect.

Lilith will be coming in next for venomoth, popping her mega again if that’s allowed I don’t remember how this shit works for this, and proceeds to go for the bug’s face via inferno or flamethrower to take use of her high special attack.

Butterball is up next to take on toxicroak, nasty plot up to full special attack stages and then smacking it down with psychic. It’s probably overkill, let’s be fair.

Ermes returns once more for swalot and sets up sandstorm once again before proceeding to not give the poor thing any breathing room between earthquake and high horsepower. Once again also taking advantage of stamina if swalot is keen on physical attacks and wants to raise Ermes’ defenses.

Butterball returns for crobat’s destruction with a tried and true method of full nasty plot and slams the bat with psychic and ice beam to take advantage of weakness.

Ermes is back again for muk. Sandstorm also returns along with iron defense spam before abusing her tactic of earthquake and high horsepower once again.

Bruno will be hilarious, fighting types hate her.

Demon is leading as always with reflect support and continually return to re-up and then switching into Ermes for a brief moment to follow with stealth rock support.

Butterball however is the one that will lead the actual charge and the slowking seems pleased as punch with himself. He will deal with hitmontop, hitmonlee, and hitmonchan in the exact same way as one another. And that is to nasty plot to maximum, and then take each and every one down with psychic and confusion as necessary. With heal pulse added if he needs to for healing.

Demon is coming for hariyama’s number and other than making sure to keep reflect going, he will also liberally use baby-doll eyes to lower the pokemon’s attack before charging in with moonblast and dazzling gleam for that fairy weakness. Draining kiss will also be abused for HP regain. Machamp is also handled in the exact same way.

Ermes returns to battles once again for lucario. She will start by iron defense spamming to max, popping sandstorm, low sweeping to lower it’s speed, and then start trying to put it into the ground via a mix of earthquake, high horsepower, and superpower.

Karen gets one sentence and one sentence only and that’s that her aesthetic is cool as fuck, holy shit.

Demon leads as always with light screen and reflect duty.

Laila immediately switches in for weavile and then bulks up and begins to cross chop the poor weavile. It should be noted that critical attacks will activate anger point to raise her attack to maximum immediately. She will also remain in on absol which is where the anger point thing may come into effect if absol has super luck. Otherwise she will continue her assault via cross chop.

Demon will switch in on spiritomb and immediately abuse sand attack to try and absolutely tank spiritomb’s accuracy before using moonblast to put it into the ground and draining kiss as needed for healing.

Laila returns for houndoom. Bulk up max and cross chop spam to put a dog down.

Demon returns again but for honchkrow. He’s still being a dick and sand attacking to tank accuracy, moonblast and dazzling gleam for damage, and draining kiss for healing.

Laila returns for the last time for umbreon’s number. Still just bulk up and cross chop once again.

Lance is where things get interesting. Except she’s still not saying jack and shit throughout this whole thing other than that one line to Karen. But it’s probably pretty obvious to anyone watching that Jolyne’s tense and ready for a fight. She doesn’t even need to say anything.

Ermes will start this battle, sort of, she’s only here to stealth rock and get the hell out of dodge.

Demon is also pulling much the same shit with light screen, reflect, and misty terrain to kill the dragon attacks as much as he can.

Butterball actually starts this fight out via salamence and immediately sets up hail, fully ups nasty plot and then goes for the throat via blizzard and dragon tail. He also gives zero single solitary fucks as he stays in to beat gyarados down with ice beam and psychic.

Demon returns for any light screen or reflect redo as needed as well as making sure misty terrain is still fresh. As he will be going up against garchomp via dazzling gleam, moonblast, and draining kiss for HP support. Second verse same as the first against altaria. Demon however uses rain dance before the altaria goes down.

Butterball returns for charizard and amazingly does not use hail. Instead he takes full advantage of the rain and just decks charizard with surf.

Demon returns once more for dragonite. He makes sure that misty terrain is back up and that reflect and light screen are still fresh. He pulls a dick move via sand attacking before once more going for dragon throats (rather aggressively, good god, Demon) via moonblast, dazzling gleam, and HP restoring via draining kiss.

And it’s after this battle, if she gets there. Whether win or lose that Jolyne just sort of stares at Lance before immediately raising both of her middle fingers in the air and saying "you’re a fucking bitch". That’s it, that’s the return on investment.

Badge/Gym Leader: Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Iceheart, Cathedral, Ratatoskr
Battle Details:
First up is Ratatoskr. Half her moveset is ineffective, but the half that isn't, he intends to make full use of--his first move will be to have her use Screech to lower the defense of whatever Falkner sends out first. Then, he'll use Sandstorm to get some residual damage going and boost her special defense. Then, well. Rock Slide Everyone Faints, ideally. The move has the potential to miss, so if she ends up getting fainted the next to come out depends on if the sandstorm is still going and if Honchkrow has made an appearance yet.

If it's still going, and Honchkrow is either fainted or hasn't been brought out yet, next up will be Cathedral, who he will have use Confuse Ray and then spam Gyro Ball. Honchkrow has a good chance of taking the dinner plate out though, due to type advantage.

If the Sandstorm has gone down and Honchkrow is out next, or if Cathedral gets fainted, Iceheart is up next. His strategy here is to have her use Icy Wind to slow down whatever's left and then alternate between Ice Beam and Ice Shard for the rest of the fight.

Badge/Gym Leader: Sabrina - Marsh Badge
Elite/Regular:Elite Team
Team: Yo.
Battle Details: The thing about Sabrina leading with Jynx is this. Obviously, Empedocles has her one turn to use Stealth Rock, which goes as usual. But Jynx, being relatively lightweight (in the literal sense) and also part ice.... is really weak to Heat Crash. This is great, because Jynx has a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of really disruptive move options. Moves like Lovely Kiss, and Wake-Up Slap, and Heart Stamp. But honestly, once Stealth Rock is set up, Empedocles only needs to be able to land a hit on Jynx once or twice, depending on how much Sabrina feels like trying to fight a losing battle against a strange new Pokemon she's probably heard about by now, since Dirk has been bringing her to every battle in Kanto.

When Sabrina sends out Wobbuffet, she's probably expecting Empedocles' traditional explosive exit. Maybe she even plans to Counter it, or set up a Destiny Bond. (Though let's be real: exploding on a Wobbuffet isn't going to take it out so easily.)

But Dirk has other plans: the first move Empedocles uses against Wobbuffet is Tar Shot.

Then the big boom.

See, Dirk's followup Pokemon is Acorn. And this is where things get... weird.

Wobbuffet is a Pokemon notorious for ending streaks. Let's just be honest. And Sabrina's been partnered with her Wobbuffet for how many years? Her prediction game is no doubt off the charts. So Dirk intends to make this as much of a nuisance as possible. Accordingly, if the Wobbuffet is female, Acorn's starting out with Attract. If not, he's leading with Fire Spin. The intention, of course, is to take advantage of Fire Spin's multiple turns of damage, now supereffective thanks to Tar Shot. More importantly, the consecutive 'end of turn' nature of Fire Spin means that it can't be Mirror Coated back at Acorn after the first turn it's used.

After that, Dirk's plan centres mostly on the use of Hypnosis, Flame Wheel, and Fire Spin to give Sabrina as hard of a time as possible predicting what she's countering. Wobbuffet's Shadow Tag means there's likely no escape for Acorn in the likely event of a final stand Destiny Bond, but that's all right. Two for two was pretty much the plan for this part to begin with.

It's at that point that things are going to get... tricky.

Sabrina's third Pokemon is generally Espeon, and Dirk's, accordingly, is PGP the Porygon2.

Yes, the "tricky" was a play on 'Trick Room.' Yes, the very next move is Conversion2--rendering PGP resistant to Psychic, if not outright immune.

In fact, PGP will continue to use Conversion2 until it lands a Ghost type. Not Dark, no. Ghost.

PGP knows Shadow Ball.

PGP also knows Recover, Magic Coat, and Signal Beam (in case Sabrina catches onto Shadow Ball and starts using Copycat.) Espeon is fast, meaning it's slow as dirt in a Trick Room, and against an opponent that resists everything it can throw (and moves like Swift and Last Resort rendered completely useless against the 'ghost' Porygon2), it mostly has the ability to screw around with PGP's stats a little and then faint... or Baton Pass out with whatever health is still has.

In either case, if Sabrina sends out Gallade or (uh, less likely) Alakazam, then PGP remains in play. Now a ghost, it's immune to Fighting moves, and Trick Room makes it faster than either opponent. This is extra good news against Gallade, since it comes with a lot of genuinely dangerous move options, like Night Slash. Magic Coat is not exactly useful against Gallade, though, meaning that after the inevitable Stealth Rock damage, PGP's strategy will be to hit it hard and fast (lol) with Shadow Ball for as much damage as possible, Recovering if it can... until, you know, Gallade crits with Night Slash, Hypnotises PGP to sleep, or else faints.

If Gallade is still around at that point, Dirk's strategy is to send out Gamehameha the Turtonator and Shell Trap Gallade into oblivion.

Once Gardevoir shows up, though, Turtonator is recalled immediately in favour of Pulse Train the Klinklang.

You know, the Steel type. With Electric Terrain to prevent sleep, Screech to lower Gardevoir's defences and Autotomise to boost its own attack and speed, plus Gear Grind to deliver the hurt, Pulse Train is Gardevoir's nightmare scenario. At best, Gardevoir can hope to Teleport out... to, uh, Espeon (if it's still around) or Alakazam, who can only barely hurt Pulse Train more than Gardevoir could.

And without Gardevoir, there's still Gamehameha. With her Body Slam, and Dragon Pulse, and Explosion.

And. Uh. Well. His Mega is still DeBeers the Sableye.... sorry, Sabrina.

In his defence, Psychic types really give him a headache.

Team: Hicks | Midday Form Lycanroc-Jynx (Lv.100), Wiggles | Butterfree (Lv.100), Kuro | Umbreon (Lv.100), Flowers | Comfey (Lv.100), Spooky | Gengar (Lv.100), Vasquez | Absol (Lv.100)

Battle Details:

Okay, Newt's second Elite battle and her first that is not weak to fire. So she's going to be prepared again with spare hyper potions and revives. She's got this.

Going up against the Jinx is Hicks her Midday Form Lycanroc as the Jinx is weak to Rock types. Also thanks to his ability of Vital Spirit, the Jinx cannot use Lovely Kiss to put him to sleep. Hicks will use Accelerock to attack first and get a first hit in. During the battle Hicks will be alternating between his Rock and Dark attacks as the Jinx is weak to both. Rock Slide to try and make the Jinx flinch as well as cause damage, Rock Tomb to slow them down and cause damage. As well as Dark moves like Crunch and Bite which may lower defence stats and cause flinching as well. Mostly trying to get the fight over quickly, he will go more often for attacks that may make the Jinx flinch.

Next Newt will send in Wiggles her Butterfree against the Wobbuffet as it is weak to Bug Types. Her accuracy will be boosted thanks to her Compound Eyes ability. Wiggles will mostly be focusing on its damage dealing Bug attack, Bug Buzz. Wiggles also knows a Ghost move thanks to a tm and will be using Shadow Ball as the Woobuffet is weak to Ghost types as well. She will mostly be using these two attacks with a few support moves like Supersonic to try and confuse the Woobuffet thrown in. Again, trying to end the fight quickly.

Against the Espeon Newt will be sending out Kuro, her Umbreon she inherited from Thida last year. He is excited. He is also a Dark type which the Espeon is weak against and as a Umbreon is immune to Psychic attacks. So Kuro will be going for Dark attacks such as Dark Pulse, Snarl and Bite. However they will also be throwing in Confuse Ray followed up by Assurance, hoping that the move will gain double damage if while Confused the Espeon damages itself. Just a few times but mostly focusing on the moves that cause damage directly.

Next against the Gallade, Newt will send out Flowers the Comfy as the Gallade is weak to Fairy attacks and at least damaged normally by Grass attacks. With this battle her main objective will be keeping the HP for the battle. To start with she will use Leech Seed to drain HP from the Gallade and in her next move she will use Grassy Terrain to turn the ground to grass, boost her Grass attacks and restore HP. For attacks she will be using Play Rough as well as Grass type damaging attacks like Petal Blizzard, Magical Leaf and Vine Wip. She will be especially using the Grass moves while the Grassy Terrain is in effect. All the while she will be keeping an eye on the HP and using Floral Healing or Draining Kiss to keep it high. Hopefully that will be enough to take out the Gallade.

Against the Gardevoir, Newt will send out Spooky her Gengar as the Gardevoir is weak to Ghost types. However Spooky is also weak to Psychic attacks so the aim of the game is to knock this battle out as quickly as possible. To help with that, Spooky has a Grass Attack that regains HP, called Giga Drain that will be used in between other attacks. These other attacks will be focusing on Ghost moves like Shadow Punch, which as it never misses will be used a lot. Lick will be used to try and paralyze the opponent. And if things seem to start getting bad, there's always Perish Song but hopefully it won't come to that.

Lastly, against the Alakazam, Newt will send out Vasquez her Absol. This is because the Alakazam is weak to Dark moves. So that being said Vasquez will be mostly focusing on her Dark damage dealing attacks such as Bite, Sucker Punch and Night Slash. However she will be using Quick Attack to get the first move in. As well as the Normal attack Razor Wind. And as above, if things look like they need to move along there's Perish Song. But they will be focusing on on dealing damage with Dark type attacks to end the fight quickly.

Badge/Gym Leader: TIME TO DEFEAT CLAIR AND EARN A MEGASTONE
Elite/Regular: regular... FOR NOW
Team: R-ko (Gardevoir 90) + S-chan (Luxray 89)
Battle Details: Are R-ko and S-chan slightly overleveled for this gym? Probably. Does Akane care... not really. The two of them have been in her main party almost ever since being caught. They're important to her. Honestly... she's fairly likely to end up bringing them all to Victory Road when she finally goes for the Elite Four.

Not that she'll be doing that for a while. She has to get all her Johto badges first.

Anyway. So. Because Clair is a cheater and uses Gyrados even though he's not actually an actual real Dragon-type pokemon, Akane will be pitting S-chan, her Luxray against him. Electric Terrain to enhance S-chan's attacks, then Charge and Discharge to hit him hard when it hurts. Repeat as necessary.

Against the real Dragon-types, Kingra and Dragonite, Akane sends in R-ko. Misty Terrain fucks up the effectiveness of their Dragon attacks, so she'll be renewing that one as necessary. Then Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast to hit hard where they're weak and Draining Kiss for necessary HP restores. She'll use the Icy Wind she bought as a TM in town to also smack Dragonite around a bit, since it looks like they're vulnerable to that.

Hopefully that's going to be enough to win the match and get her megastone... which she's totally going to use on R-ko, because Mega-Gardevoir is awesome

Badge/Gym Leader: CLAIR
Elite/Regular: ELITE TEAM
Team: Kyusei, Boo, and Evey!
Battle Details: Ever hear of a victory lap-

Carly's here because of the prize- you have that reusable ticket right? Right? Great.

Given Aerodactyl is kicking it off, she starts things hard using Kyusei; some teleporting and shopping means he's got Ice Beam now, and that combined with his own otherwise tanky build makes that hit the rock-flying type hard. That's not the first move however. The first one, of course, is Yawn- gotta cover those bases after all.

There's a pretty strong chance the one that Clair sends out won't be Charizard after that of course- but that doesn't mean that Kyusei won't be useful when she does. The minute that fire-lizard hits the field it's the Yawn-and-Go strategy again, focusing on Whirlpool for constant chipping away and moves like Surf and Waterfall to otherwise hit hard.

When Kingdra appears however, it's Baby Boo's turn. That thing might prove tricky to most, but Boo has their old 'Trick-or-Treat strategy on their side. On top of that, she's got Confuse Ray, Astonish, and Leech Seed to get a bit of added protection going. If things get rough, she can use Pain Split as well- but for the most part with Trick-or-Treat in play, she should be fine slipping into the shadows with Phantom Force until the seahorse is gone.

Of course, that leaves three dragons.

Garchomp, Salamence, and Dragonite all have a x4 weakness to Kyusei's Ice Beam one way or another. Rather than bring out her fairy type, Carly's going to start things slow and steady for that reason. Yawn, Ice Beam- but those aren't strategies to rely on whole heartedly. Like noted, she still has that Alcremie after all. And Evey, with her megastone, is a force to behold- buffing up with decorate and using plenty of fairy focused attacks while keeping herself steady after laying down the Misty Terrain to cut down those dragon type strikes. Draining Kiss and Recover don't exactly hurt either.

All that...and hopefully Carly's going to be taking a nice cruise!

Next up will be Ermes back in to exploit charizard's rock weakness via rock tomb and rock slide because Ermes is a dick. And she is so done with charizard at this point.

Against kingdra shall be a switch into Demon who is here to be the trolliest bastard on the face of the planet via sand attack to lower accuracy and then pummeling the poor thing with dazzling gleam.

Salamence gets to deal with Iceberg again who is following the same iron defense then blizzard strategy.

Garchomp and Dragonite both get the honor of dealing with the utterly legendary Butterball who is going to be an utter dick and set up hail against the garchomp before slamming them both with a mixture of blizzard, ice beam, and dragon tail.

She ain't playing around anymore.

Battle Details:

FUCHSIA
Since poison type pokemon have some definite steel weaknesses, Shiro is relying on his Aggron to carry the team here. Using steel and rock attacks, plus Aggron's high defense stats, this is what he'll be using most of the time. Marowak is next up, relying on rock and ground moves. His Incineroar will be backup, since the other pokemon on the team are bug type, and fire moves will help out in that respect. Last-ditch efforts go once again to Gengar.

SAFFRON
Saffron gym is Gengar's time to shine. With both dark and ghost type attacks, Shiro leads with Gengar, also using its hypnosis to boost their chances of winning. If the ghost faints, or grows too tired, he'll trade out for a secret weapon - his Umbreon. Also a high level pokemon, its pure dark type and dark type moves also play into psychic weaknesses.

And, as always, if all else fails, brute force it with Aggron.

Battle Details: This badge is technically back-dated to like, June 12 because I forgot to do it earlier, but also because I am so sorry Bugsy but Tyler is using explicitly and singularly a Houndoom that is some 13+ levels overpowered. Power up with repeated Nasty Plot and spam Flamethrower until the building burns down.

Badge/Gym Leader: Mineral Badge
Elite/Regular: Also regular
Team: Team here - Quixote, Fiona, and Dexter again
Battle Details: Okay this one requires some actual strategy (and also happens right now, right before Weird Weekend). Tyler's going to open the fight against Skarmory with EVA in its Heat Rotom form, and open with an Overheat. EVA's zippy, rather than powerful, and will make highly gratuitous use of Double Team to keep the Skarmory guessing, and throwing out a Substitute when the guess turns out to be accurate, spamming Charge and Discharge to ramp out massive amounts of electricity until the Skarmory goes down.

Against the Magneton Tyler is going to pull out Fiona, who as a Mudsdale is inherently immune to the majority of the Electric Pokemon's natural attacks. She might be a few levels under par, but with that advantage in mind all she has to do is open with an Earthquake before it can use Magnet Rise; and if she's too slow, she can kick the shit out of it with Double Kick, Mega Kick and the supereffective Superpower.

When Steelix comes out, so too does Dexter. While the Houndoom has a distinct size disadvantage and an absolute speed advantage. Opening with Inferno will burn the Steelix, which helps reduce the damage of its incoming attacks, after which Dexter will focus heavily on using Nasty Plot and Flamethrower once again, with an occasional Crunch thrown in to do some (admittedly minor) physical damage, but primarily to make the Steelix flinch and keep it from moving as best Dexter can. It'll be a hard fight with how exorbitant a Steelix's defence is, but Tyler is banking on the boosted special attacks to get Dexter through the fight a bit more quickly than trying to tank it.

Team: IT'S ALL REEDY-WEEDY BABY well okay he has Wes as backup but
Battle Details: While Emporio has a ghost who would be very much eager to show his stuff here after so much time spent just chilling out in Goldenrod, Emporio is here to focus on the battle with one pokemon unless absolutely pressed.

That pokemon? Reedy-Weedy, the Delcatty with Normalize.

THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, OLD SKITTY LADY IN NEW BARK.

A huge part of this strategy revolves around Reedy starting off with Foresight to render the ghosts vulnerable to Normal moves- perhaps not a surprising move despite the lack of verbal commands from Emporio. Beyond 'Focus' he doesn't really have to tell him to do anything after all, but Morty's probably not going to be dumb enough to think that a Delcatty is coming out without that.

Still, Reedy isn't just sticking with that. Sing is a big one, along with Attract and Captivate in the case of pokemon opposite his gender- beyond the status hits, each and every ghost faced with Reedy could be hit with...well, just about anything. Wake-Up Slap might even come up if the cat feels especially mean- it's followed immediately by Sing again after all- but thanks to Normalize every single move that Reedy uses is Normal.

What's more is that unlike most normal moves in the hands of normal pokemon, Normalize allows the STAB bonus to kick in.

It's no doubt a fun challenge- even if Emporio doesn't seem to be giving much command, but really the point seems to be more in favor of the Old Lady in New Bark than anything. Look Granny! Look how far your skitties can make it!

All that said, Emporio wasn't dumb enough to come without back-up. If Reedy seems to end up in a pinch, he'll be swapped out for Wes- a gengar who's all too eager to get the opponent confused, sleeping, and punched in the Super Effective kisser.

Battle Details:

Okay, third elite battle. She can do this. We are going for a mix of type advantages this time.

First up against the Quagsire is Pinecone the Abomasnow and he is part Grass type and the Quagsire is 4x weak to this. So for this fight Pinecone will be using Grass attacks as often as possible. They will however start with Ingrain to lay roots and restore HP on each turn. After that it will mostly be Leafage, Razor Leaf and Bullet Seed to keep up the Grass type attacks. Wood Hammer will only be used if it looks like it may take the Quagsire out, to prevent damage to Pinecone.

Next against the Lanturn in Hudson the Marowak as he is a Ground type and the Lanturn is weak to Ground. However, Hudson is also weak to water attacks so they're going to try and end this battle quickly. Bonemerang will be used often to hit the Lanturn twice in one move. They will also be using Mud-Slap to both damage and reduce accuracy. As well as Stomping Temper and Bone Rush. Just a lot of Ground attacks as quickly as they can get them out there.

Next up against Floatzel is Flowers the Comfey. Now Flowers may be a Fairy type but she also has a tone of Grass type attacks which is why she is here. So to start with they will use Grassy Terrain to turn the ground to grass to restore her HP during the fight and also boost her Grass moves. Next she will be using as many of her Grass moves to keep things in her favour while it is there. Such as Vine Whip, Grass Knot and especially Magical Leaf as it never misses. If health seems like it may be a problem, she will use Leech Seed to steal HP from the Floatzel in the battle.

Against the Lapras will be Robert the Lucario, because he is part Fighting Type and the Lapras is weak to that. Also he takes 1/2 damage to Ice Attacks and the Lapras has a few of those. They will be focusing on Fighting moves then. Power Up Punch, which will raise Roberts attack stats. Rock Smash, to lower the Lapras' defence stats as well. And also used a lot Force Palm to try and hit the Lapras with paralysis. If his HP gets lower, they will also use Reversal which deals more damage, the lower his HP is. And if he needs to bring his HP up, he can use his own Water move, Life Dew to regain HP. But hopefully it won't get that far.

Dandelion the Heliolsik will be sent out against the Milotic. Not only is she an electric type which the Milotic is weak too but her ability, Dry Skin means that if she is hit with Water type attacks she gains HP. That being said, the name of the game is always beat it quickly so Dandelion will be using damage dealing Electric attacks first and foremost. Thunder, Thunderbolt, Discharge and Thunder Shock going for damage and also to see if they can keep causing paralysis. For HP they also have Parabolic Charge which will get half the damage taken by the attack.

And last against the Starmie, we're using another Electric type with Jonsey the Luxray. As the Starmie is weak to Electric attack we will mostly be using those but Jonesy also has some Dark attacks as well which the Starmie is also weak to. So Bite and Crunch will be mixed in the battle to cause damage and also try and make the Starmie flinch and lower their defence. However they will also be using Electric Terrain to boost Electric attacks even more, such as Thunder Shock, Spark and Discharge, also hoping for paralysis.

Naga will set up with Sunny Day then repeatedly hit Steelix right in the Fire-type weakness and lack of exceptional Special Defense as many times as it takes to bring it down, with the level discrepancy and higher Speed hopefully giving her enough time to wear down the Steelix before its Rock-type moves take her out.

Badge/Gym Leader: Rising/Clair
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Nemean the Luxray. Jormungandr the Dragapult, and Naga the Dragonite
Battle Details: Once again, Connie will start with Nemean using Electric Terrain, except this time he'll alternate between using Charge to defend from Gyarados's legendary Hyper Beam and Wild Charge to dish as much hurt as possible on Gyarados, relying on the level advantage and STAB to keep his HP up despite the recoil until the Atrocious Pokémon goes down. Next up is Jormungandr, who'll use his immense speed to his advantage and use that edge to start out with Dragon Dance, then once again brute forcing the match despite mutual vulnerability to Dragon-type moves through Dragon Darts and Dragon Rush. Finally, Naga, since of course the match had to end with Dragonite vs. Dragonite. Naga will use her bare advantage in speed due to level discrepancy to start out with Dragon Dance, then use Outrage to annihilate Clair's Dragonite, finishing it off with a Hyper Beam if necessary.

Battle Details: She'll start out a bit rough with Kira and struggle, but after her own birds encourage her, Willow will get her head into the battle and start using her ability to understand Falkner's birds to her advantage and have Nova set up burns as best as she can, riding out Falkner's attacks with Sage on the defensive while alternating between Swagger, Hone Claws, and Power Trip. Lani will get impatient and get reckless, but hit hard in her attacks that don't miss in her impatience.

Character: Cassandra | [personal profile] fearinahandfulof
Badge/Gym Leader: Zephyr/Falkner
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Neideen the Golbat, Uranus the Gyarados, Isley the Corvisquire, and Blade the Type: Null, with possible assists from Elizabeth the Honedge and Misty Malarkey the Skitty
Battle Details: So one of the nice things about working in a PokeCenter in a gym town is that people who challenge the gym will often talk/rant about the Gym Leader and what works or didn't work against them. Cassandra's spent three weeks working in Violet City's PokeCenter at this point, so she's picked up a lot of interesting and/or useful info by now and if there's one thing Cassandra understands, it's the importance of using every advantage you have in a fight.

Noctowl: Neideen starts the battle off with Confuse Ray, then gets the hell out of Dodge because those Psychic skills will ruin her day. In her place will be Uranus, whose Intimidate ability will automatically lower the Noctowl's attack while she hits it with Ice Fang, and then Brine when/if the Noctowl's health falls below 50%. Brine doesn't have the type advantage Ice Fang does, but with its attack power doubling once Noctowl's health hits that 50% threshold, it will likely do more damage than Ice Fang (which does have type advantage). If Uranus gets confused, then she'll be spelled by Elizabeth, who will use Automize on herself then attack with Night Slash, while shrugging off Noctowl's Normal moves and resisting its Psychic ones. Cassandra will be in the background using healing items as necessary.

Honchkrow: Once again, Neideen leads off with Confuse Ray. She'll be immediately followed by Isley, who will use Taunt to shut down Honchkrow's Swagger and then make way for Uranus again. Uranus is one level below Honchkrow, but she does have Intimidate and Ice Fang (and Brine, if Honchkrow falls under 50% health while she's still out); still, if she gets in trouble, Cassandra will pull her in favor of Misty Malarkey, who doesn't have any type advantages but is several levels above Honchkrow at this point and can heal herself if need be. Isley will continue to swap in and out with Taunt as needed, and Cassandra will continue to heal her Pokemon up as necessary.

Pidgeot: This time, Isley is the one to lead off, firing off Taunt to block off Pidgeot's status moves and then getting the hell out of the way because he's definitely underleveled for this one. Blade is the one who's going to be doing the bulk of the work for this one, since it's got the necessary levels, plus a few extras: namely Smack Down and Thunder Wave, learned via TMs.  It will use both of those liberally, while Isley will occasionally swap in to deliver more Taunts while he still can. The idea is to keep Pidgeot from buffing itself/debuffing Cassandra's Pokemon, but this fight may come down to attrition, depending on how long they can keep it from using nonoffensive moves.

Battle Details: While Jane knows she should be able to rely on the level advantage in this battle, she's still making sure that type advantages are in her favor here. August's Psybeam, Psychock, and Psychic (along with Future Sight) and Bettina's Wing Attack, Air Cutter, Acrobatics, and Air Slash should be enough to down Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. For Poliwrath, however, she's switching it up a little - Madeline can tank any Water attacks it can throw out while tossing out Disarming Voice, Moonblast, and Dazzling Gleam to hit that Fighting typing, and if she goes down, Ramsay is there with his Grass typing and Razor Leaf, Magical Leaf, Giga Drain, and Leaf Blade to clean up house.

Character: Dirk Strider | [personal profile] uber_marionettist
Badge/Gym Leader: Janine (Soul Badge)
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: And so on.
Battle Details: Empedocles leads again, because so far nothing has really discouraged Dirk from doing this over and over again. He's getting a little... bored of it? Cocky and bored. But Empedocles leads with Stealth Rock, follows with Tar Shot, and proceeds to Heat Crash the shit out of poor, lightweight Crobat. Sure, Crobat has a lot of flinch-inducing capabilities, and sure, it can poison her. But she's made out of rocks and fire, and even if Crobat outspeeds her, she only needs to get in... what, three moves to finish it off? Tar Shot's effect (rendering Fire type moves more effective) makes Heat Crash super effective on what amounts to a glass cannon with no super effective options on Empedocles herself.

Against Weezing, however, her first move is Smack Down. If Weezing had Levitate, it is now groundbound until or unless Janine switches it out. Instead of doing more damage, however, Empedocles starts using Smokescreen to fill the arena with smoke and reduce Weezing's accuracy. Dirk has pretty thoroughly demonstrated his knowledge of the damage Self Destruct and Explosion can do--he's not interested in seeing that turned against him. Then she starts putting down.... Spikes? Yes. Spikes. Dirk went TM shopping, and this will be his strategy until poison or something else begins to threaten Empedocles' staying power. If Weezing has filled the arena with its own Smokescreening (god help anyone spectating, live or otherwise), so be it. He'll Self Destruct Empedocles anyway.

Because... his next Pokemon is his old buddy COS the Machoke, and she knows Retaliate. If Weezing is still on the field after that, well... it's also still Grounded, meaning it is not immune to propaganda Earthquake.

The entire reason she's here, though, is Toxicroak. Not that she's super effective against it or anything (well, she is, but mostly with Earthquake.) She's just really wanted to show off her prowess at the great art of Muscular Theatre and Dirk thinks she should get a chance to flex (...lol) on Janine.

Also, while eviolite boosts COS' Defence and Special Defence, her GUTS ability increases her Attack by a whopping 50% if she's inflicted with a status ailment.... like, say, poison? So with that in mind, COS throws herself at Toxicroak with the full knowledge that anything it does short of Flattering her will make her stronger.... and that she's free to use, for example, Revenge to do a bass boosted GUTS boosted 120 base damage. And if Dirk finds that Toxicroak has Dry Skin... that means that COS' Fire Punch will do an additional 25% damage to it, plus the chance to Burn (and reduce Toxicroak's Attack?)

Oh right, and it swapped in on Stealth Rock and a couple layers of Spikes.

Maybe this wasn't a very fair fight. Oh well.

Drapion faces the same entry hazard damage upon... well, entry, and COS will happily smack it around with a couple of Fire Punches in the hopes of a Burn before she bites the dust.

After that, Drapion faces Acorn the Rapidash... known abuser of Drill Run, Flare Blitz, and... oh, right, that obnoxious Chesto+Rest combo that Dirk so loves to kit his emotional support glass cannon out with.

When Janine sends out Arbok, though, Dirk calls Acorn back and sends out DeBeers the Sableye.

In previous battles, DeBeers has been Dirk's Mega Stone holder, but it appears that's no longer the case. (In Dirk's defence, he often had to wrestle that extremely precious rock our of DeBeers' toothy, toothy mouth.) It doesn't really matter, though. After Fake Out to thwart whatever setup (Coil? Glare? Gastro Acid?) Janine originally intended, DeBeers Disables Arbok's next move, confuses it with.... uh, Confuse Ray... and then proceeds to hit Arbok where it hurts with Zen Headbutt.

Soon, Janine is down to her last Venomoth. And Dirk still has that Rapidash.

And... uh, that's only four Pokemon out of Dirk's six.

Gamehameha the Turtonator or Salome the Mandibuzz are more than capable of cleaning up.

Character: Dirk Strider | [personal profile] uber_marionettist
Badge/Gym Leader: Brock (Boulder Badge)
Elite/Regular: Elite Team
Team: And so on.
Battle Details: Empedocles leads with Stealth Rock, even though it's not going to be very effective. Why? Well... a lot of Rock types have an Ability called Sturdy, which prevents one-hit KOs. Much like a Focus Sash, though, Sturdy is rendered completely useless by the loss of even a tiny chip of health before any major damage is done.

Speaking of Focus Sash, Empedocles is wearing one. This is important because while Rhyperior is slow, Empedocles is even slower. Also, she's got a double weakness to Ground type moves. So.... in the interest of not getting Earthquaked out of existence at the word 'go,' Dirk wrapped a Focus Sash around her big craggy head.

After Empedocles comes Peaches the Smeargle. Instead of Transforming, though, she starts by making a Wish, and then... uh, Water Pulse? She's taking big chunks out of Rhyperior's health, but that's not exactly a one-hit KO strategy.

In fact, once Rhyperior is down a hefty majority of its health, she Baton Passes right back to Dirk, and out buzzes.... a Beedrill?

Oh. A Mega Beedrill.

Here's the thing about Mega Beedrill. One, obviously it's fast as shit. Two, its Ability is Adaptability, meaning all its STAB moves do 2x damage instead of 1.5x. That's basically a supereffective hit! (Did you know Rhyperior doesn't resist Bug type?)

Three, like all Beedrill, it has Fell Stinger. A 50 damage move (but with Adaptability, that's doing double damage for 100!) that, if it knocks out the target Pokemon, raises the user's Attack three stages?

Did you know that Mega Beedrill is faster than every single one of Brock's Pokemon? It also has a base Attack of 150... now boosted by three stages... and it still knows Drill Run.

Truthfully? With a little luck (or maybe without it, tbh), it's entirely possible for Mega Beedrill to sweep Brock's entire team.

If it fails to do so, Dirk has COS the Machoke and Pulse Train the Klinklang (Fighting and Steel type being supereffective against Rock. And as a bonus, both Omastar and Kabutops are vulnerable to Pulse Train's Lock On + Zap Cannon combo.)

Character: Keith "I don't have a moth problem" Yeehawson | [personal profile] marmoron

Badge/Gym Leader: Surge
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Mothbro, Mothman, Mothchick
Battle Details: Leading off with Mothbro to set up a light screen to cut the power of Surge's special attackers. From there, Mothbro wil be whittling Electrode down with a combination of Toxic while boosting up with Quiver Dance. Moonlight will be used to restore HP as Electrode gets in a few attacks, but as Quiver Dance also raises Dustox's special defense, those attacks will do progressively less damage. When properly set up, Dustox will hit Electrode with a powerful Venoshock to hopefully finish the job. When Surge sends in Magneton, Dustox will immediately be hitting it with a whirlwind to get in the Raichu and whitting Raichu down with boosted Bug Buzz attacks. Then when Surge finally brings his pesky steel type back in, Keith will be sending out Volcarona and using flamethrower to take advantage of a fire-type weakness. Venomoth is playing the role of backup moth and will be swooping in with Bug Buzz attacks to deal in some extra damage if needed!

Badge/Gym Leader: Erika
Elite/Regular: Regular
Team: Mothman, , Mothgal
Battle Detai ls: Volcarona is going to town here. Being a stronger moth, Keith will be going for a more basic beatdown strategy using Mothman's STAB flamethrower to put a hurt on Erika's grass types while also taking advantage of a 4x resistance to any grass type moves fired back in retaliation. For the tankier of Erika's pokes (looking at you Tangrowth), Volcarona can boost up using Quiver Dance to increasehis special attack for more fire power. Masquerain will also put in some work with super effective Air Slashes and another handy 4x resist to grass moves. Frosmoth's the support moth and will fire off some super effective Aurora Beam attacks in the event that the other two moths go down.

He'll be circling back to Brock at the very end for some good old fashioned moth revenge!!

Character: Newt | [personal profile] sleepallthewayhome
Badge/Gym Leader: Boulder/Brock
Elite/Regular: Elite
Team: Liz | Inteleon (Lv.100), Jingle | Klefki (Lv. 100), Flowers | Comfey (Lv.100), Pinecone | Abomasnow (Lv.100), Iceberg | Walrein (Lv.100), Robert | Lucario (Lv.100)

Battle Details:

For this battle Newt is going to test out some new strategies to go along with her usual plan of hit hard, hit quickly. She also made sure to bring health potions with her.

So.

The Rhyperior is up first and Newt will sent out Liz as he has 4x advantage with Water attacks. Now the first move will be to use Rain Dance to power up Water moves even more for five turns. Second move is Whirlpool to trap the Rhyperior for 4-5 turns. Then we will start with the now highly powerful Water moves. Liz will be using a mix of Snipe Shot, Hydro Pump and Liquidation. Hopefully that will take out the opponent.

Against the Rampardos, Newt will switch Liz with Jingle as a part Steel type and also because she is Resistant to all the types of attack the Rampardos knows (ie: Dark, Normal, Rock and Psychic). That being said she has very few Steel attacks so will be using Mirror Shot a lot but will also throw in some Dark and Fairy attacks as needed. Such as Foul Play, Play Rough and Fairy Wind. She will also be using Draining Kiss to regain HP if needed. She will also use this chance to use the move Crafty Shield to protect herself and the rest of the team from Status Moves

Golem is next and Newt will switch back in Liz for that 4x Water advantage, using a turn to heal them. The strategy will be the same as used on the Rhyperior. Rain Dance and Whirlpool to both bring that Water type advantage up higher and then to attempt to trap the other pokemon from moving. Snipe Shot will be used of course but also Water Gun and Water Pulse, going for damage and Confusion with that last one.

Omastar is next and so a switch in strategy is required again. Flowers is brought out because there is a 4x advantage for grass attacks and she has a lot of those. The first move is to use Grassy Terrain to boost up the Grass move advantage even more, as well as an HP boost. Then of course, hit fast and hard with Grass moves such as Magical Leaf (which never misses) and Vine Whip. If things seem to drag on, she will use Leech Seed to slowly steal HP from the Omastar.

For Kabutops, Flowers will be left in and if needed, take a turn to heal. She will then use Grassy Terrain again to add to that 4x Grass advantage and also HP boost. She'll alternate the Grass attacks but still focus on hard hitting ones like Petal Dance, Grass Knot and okay yes, Magical Leaf, which is just fun. Also if HP is a problem, she will use Synthesis to regain it.

Lastly against the Onix, Newt will swap in Pinetree who is Grass/Ice and there's a 4x Grass advantage there and a 2x Ice advantage. He is also resistant to Ground attacks, if weak to Rock ones. He will be going for Grass attacks such as Razor Leaf and Bullet Seed. After a few rounds, Pinetree will use Ingrain to restore HP every turn. He will then go back to focusing on attacks. Also Blizzard will be used to attempt to freeze the Onix. Wood Hammer will only be used based on how low Pinetree's HP is already.

Newt also has Robert the Lucario and Iceberg the Walrein if she loses anyone and needs to switch in a new teammate. Hopefully that is not needed but if it is, Iceberg would be switched into any fight against someone weak to water types and then continue to use their Water attacks. While Robert would be using Fighting type attacks and can be switched in against any of them.

Character: Tyler Huang | [personal profile] asmywitness
Badge/Gym Leader: Mahogany Town babey
Elite/Regular: Regular Team pls
Team: Team roster, featuring Quixote, Dexter, and Caltrops
Battle Details: After a gross seven hour flight into the cold hell of Mahogany Town, Tyler's gunning straight for the goddamn gym so he can leave.

Opening against Dewgong is Quixote, with a solid First Impression entrance. Thanks to being full Fighting he won't suffer quite so horribly from Ice moves, so between using Iron Defence and Detect to tank the hits, kicking up Sand Attack as much as she can and Swords Dancing to get that little extra physical buff, she's going to rush all-in and slam Meteor Hammer as hard as she can, with Brick Breaks whenever she gets her energy back.

Dexter is going to be going up against the Lapras, with a very high-risk gimmick of a strategy. He's going to have the Fire Pokemon use Role Play against the Lapras - and pray that the Lapras actually has Water Absorb, so that Dexter doesn't get immediately blasted into oblivion by the Lapras's overpowered Water attacks. He'll be using Swagger to try and confuse the Lapras, before rushing in to deal physical damage by leaping onto its back and using Thunder Fang repeatedly, and countering any Ice moves sent his way with Flamethrower

(And if Tyler calculated horribly and it turns out the Lapras has Shell Armor, then once Dexter faints he'll be sending in Quixote again to repeat the same tactics as before.)

And for the grand finale, against the Mamoswine, Tyler is going to use Caltrops. The Steel Bug has a distinct advantage in both level and type, and will open with repeating ralleys of Iron Defense and Gyro Ball, before she switches into Autotomize-ing and Magnet Rise so she can slingshot herself around the room untouched by its Ground-type attacks and keep up an onslaught of Mirror Shots and Take Downs until she gets Tyler the gold.

Character: Tyler Huang | [personal profile] asmywitness
Badge/Gym Leader: Blackthorn Cityyyy
Elite/Regular: Regular Team again
Team: Team roster, featuring Y'ALL'D'VE BABEL, Teller and Jester
Battle Details: Knowing that she's a Dragon trainer and the final obstacle to the Elite Four on Johto's side, Tyler's going in no holds barred this time.

Against the Gyarados Tyler is going to send in Y'ALL'D'VE BABEL. A risky manouevre, given how the Solrock isn't strictly obedient to him, and has a type disadvantage: but it also has Trick Room, to give it an edge on speed, Sunny Day to lower Clair's team's power and Morning Sun to make use of it for sick heals, Stone Edge and Rock Slide for some immediate and heavy damage, and Hypnosis to disable the Gyarados even more. (Admittedly it might also try and launch some of those Flamethrowers at Tyler, but Isis has Protect now to block it so he can just stand there and be bathed in flames like a badass.)

The Kingdra is a bit trickier; Tyler doesn't have any viable dragon types. Luckily, he does have a powerful Hypno, who can open with Future Sight to avoid being immediately tanked by the Kingdra's insane attacks, and then turn to Hypnosis, Nightmare and Wake-Up Slap on repeat. Once Clair catches on, it's back to Future Sight, as well as Meditate to boost his physical attack and Psych Up to mimic the Kingdra's, and use Teleport to get close enough to launch some Headbutts, both Zen and regular.

The Dragonite would be far more of a challenge if Blackthorn City didn't have one very useful TM: Blizzard. Which Tyler has since taught to Jester, and will be opening the fight with. And whether or not that works, he'll be immediately throwing up Bind, Confuse Ray and Will-O-Wisp, and disappearing into Shadow Sneak so he can come out directly underneath the Dragonite and follow up with Ice Punches. As a Ghost, Jester has nothing to fear from Hyper Beam, and so instead will use Disable on the Dragonite's Outrage, and retaliate with Hex to inflict severe damage on the burned Dragonite.
